The concept of the degree of cross-polarization is extended from stochastic electromagnetic stationary beams to stochastic electromagnetic pulsed beams, and the propagation properties of the degree of cross-polarization of stochastic spatially and spectrally partially coherent electromagnetic pulsed beams is studied. The influence of pulse duration and temporal coherence length on the degree of cross-polarization P is emphasized. It is shown that P exhibits an oscillatory behavior in free-space propagation. An increase in the pulse duration or a decrease in the temporal coherence length can weaken the oscillation of P. The validity of the results is interpreted physically.  相似文献

To study the propagation properties of partially coherent Laguerre-Gaussian (PLG) beams through turbulent atmosphere, the analytical formulas are derived for the angular width and the beam-propagation factor (M2-factor) of PLG beams by using the extended Huygens-Fresnel principle and the second-order moments of the Wigner distribution function (WDF). The corresponding numerical results are also calculated. When propagation distance increases, the angular width is found to spread faster for PLG beams with higher beam order, smaller correlation length and bigger structure constant The angular width of PLG beams decreases with increase in waist width (w0).The M2-factor of PLG beams with higher beam order and smaller correlation length is less affected by turbulence with increase in propagation distance. The propagation properties of the M2-factor for PLG beams with the smaller structure constant are better than that with bigger structure constant . The M2-factor of PLG beams decreases with increase in the wavelength λ, and it is also less affected by turbulence for beams with higher order and smaller correlation length. Furthermore, for the PLG beams with the same beam order, the angular width and the M2-factor keep invariable in free space.  相似文献

By expanding the Debye theory into the tight focusing of partially coherent field, the intensity and spatial correlation properties of partially coherent radially polarized vortex beams are studied. Expressions are derived for the intensity distribution and the spectral degree of coherence in the focal region. It is found that the intensity and the transverse and longitudinal coherence degrees in the focal region change with the variation of the topological charge and coherence length of the vortex beam. In addition, the degree of coherence is shown to exhibit phase singularities.  相似文献

Young's interference experiment is regarded as a two-slit diffraction phenomenon, the polarization singularities in Young's two-slit configuration illuminated with two linearly, orthogonally polarized Gaussian vortex beams are studied. It is shown that generally, there exist L-lines (linearly polarization) and polarization singularities including C-points (circular polarization), S23 and S31 singularities even though the parameters of two beams are the same. The pair creation-annihilation and motion of polarization singularities take place upon propagation, or by varying a control parameter, such as the amplitude ratio of two beams or obscure ratio of slits etc. For a special case of the illumination with two linearly, orthogonally polarized Gaussian vortex-free beams, polarization singularities, in particular, C-points may occur if a parameter of two beams is not equal.  相似文献

Thermal effects are very much influential in high power beam generators. Their impacts on special types of beams such as Helmholtz-Gauss beams have attracted special attentions. This work reports thermal effects on the generation and propagation of Ince-Gaussian beams. The results show considerable beam spot size variations for near fields under various induced heat loads. As Ince-Gaussian beams are directly related to cavity symmetry breaking, the results can greatly help system designers for circumventing these types of symmetry breaks usually encountered in high power lasers.  相似文献

By using the semi-analytic approach introduced earlier, we formulate and subsequently evaluate the irradiance fluctuations of partially coherent super Lorentz Gaussian beams for orders of 10 and 11. Within the range of examined source and propagation conditions, our calculations show that there will be less fluctuations at short propagation distances as the Lorentzian property is increased. But the reverse will be applicable, if the longer propagation distances are considered. The use of focusing will cause reductions, particularly for beams with increased Lorentzian property.  相似文献

A detailed study of the morphology of nano-craters drilled in borosilicate glass by single shot femtosecond laser ablation near the ablation threshold has been performed by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy imaging after focused ion beam sectioning. The influence of the numerical aperture (NA = 0.4 and 0.8), the pulse energy (16 nJ < Ep < 600 nJ) and the position of the specimen surface into the focal region were systematically investigated, leading to nanometric or micrometric scales in every spatial dimension. The nanocrater’s size is not restricted by the diffraction limit but determined by the laser pulse stability and the material properties. If the beam is focused inside the glass, two craters are drilled, shaping very distinct morphologies. Their dimensions have been studied in details and different relationships have been proposed for the evolutions of the depths and of the various diameters of these craters as functions of the pulse energy, the numerical aperture and the position of specimen surface in the beam-material interaction region. It is suggested that the long, thin conical profile with very high aspect ratio of the secondary craters is due to a spontaneous reshaping of the beam which transforms the incoming Gaussian pulse into a Gaussian-Bessel pulse. As proposed in the developed model the geometry of the second craters seems to be connected with the one of the main craters.  相似文献

The mutual trapping of two dipole-mode beams is investigated numerically in nonlocal thermal media. Results show that the incoherent attraction of perpendicularly aligned dipole-mode beams can enhance the stability of their composite structure. When the powers of the dipole components are identical, the larger the power, the shorter the stable distance. While when the powers are different, the closer the powers, and the longer the stable distance. Furthermore numerical results proved that the coupled solitary structures exhibit stable propagation for much larger distances than the corresponding scalar cases.  相似文献
