We show that every finite volume hyperbolic manifold of dimension greater than or equal to 3 is stable under rescaled Ricci flow, i.e. that every small perturbation of the hyperbolic metric flows back to the hyperbolic metric again. In this article, we develop a partially penalty immersed interface finite element (PIFE) method for a kind of anisotropy diffusion models governed by the elliptic interface problems with discontinuous tensor‐coefficients. This method is based on linear immersed interface finite elements (IIFE) and applies the discontinuous Galerkin formulation around the interface. We add two penalty terms to the general IIFE formulation along the sides intersected with the interface. The flux jump condition is weakly enforced on the smooth interface. By proving that the piecewise linear function on an interface element is uniquely determined by its values at the three vertices under some conditions, we construct the finite element spaces. Therefore, a PIFE procedure is proposed, which is based on the symmetric, nonsymmetric or incomplete interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin formulation. Then we prove the consistency and the solvability of the procedure. Theoretical analysis and numerical experiments show that the PIFE solution possesses optimal‐order error estimates in the energy norm and norm.© 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We examine a network upgrade problem for cost flows. A budget can be distributed among the arcs of the network. An investment on each single arc can be used either to decrease the arc flow cost, or to increase the arc capacity, or both. The goal is to maximize the flow through the network while not exceeding bounds on the budget and on the total flow cost.
The problems are NP-hard even on series-parallel graphs. We provide an approximation algorithm on series-parallel graphs which, for arbitrary δ,>0, produces a solution which exceeds the bounds on the budget and the flow cost by factors of at most 1+δ and 1+, respectively, while the amount of flow is at least that of an optimum solution. The running time of the algorithm is polynomial in the input size and 1/(δ). In addition we give an approximation algorithm on general graphs applicable to problem instances with small arc capacities. 相似文献

A three dimensional steady fully developed MHD Couette flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid is analysed. The lower stationary porous plate is subjected to a periodic injection velocity and the upper porous plate in uniform motion to a constant suction velocity. A magnetic field of uniform strength applied normal to the planes of the plates is fixed with the moving plate. The excess molar volume, viscosity deviation and excess Gibbs free energy of activation of viscous flow have been investigated from the density and shear viscosity measurements of water–dioxane mixtures over the entire range of mole fractions from 293.15 to 309.15?K. The results were fitted by the Redlich–Kister equation. Partial molar volume and Gibbs energy at infinite dilution were deduced from four methods, activation parameters and partial molar Gibbs energy of activation of viscous flow against compositions were investigated. The water–dioxane interactions have principally an H-bound character and there are two principal types’ structures limited by 0.08?mole fraction in dioxane. The reduced Redlich–Kister excess properties provide an indication of the intermolecular interactions and for dioxane–water cluster formation as suggested in the literature. 相似文献

Surface tension (γ) and viscosity (η) data of aqueous solutions of the deoxyadenosine (DOA) and the deoxyribose (DOR) sugars have been measured with the survismeter, a new instrument, along with tetrahydrofuran (THF), dimethylformamide (DMF), acetonitrile and dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) solvents. The same properties have also been measured with a stalagmometer and a viscosimeter, respectively, which afford the same information, albeit at the expense of a larger amount of chemicals and solvents. We obtain comparatively better accuracy in both kinds of measurements than with conventional methods. Therefore, the survismeter lends itself as a simple and reliable instrument. 相似文献

We present an efficient implementation of the proper (in vivo) outlet boundary conditions in detailed, three‐dimensional (3D) and time‐periodic simulations of blood flow through arteries. This is achieved through the intermediate use of an approximate ‘simulant’ model of the outlet pressure/flow relationship corresponding to the full 3D and time‐dependent numerical simulation. This model allows us to efficiently couple the 3D outlet pressure/flow conditions to the equivalent relations due to the downstream arterial network, as obtained from a one‐dimensional approximate model in the form of Fourier frequency impedance coefficients. An adjustable time‐periodic function correction term in the simulant model requires input from the full 3D model that has to run iteratively until convergence. The advantage of the proposed numerical scheme is that it decouples the upstream detailed simulation from the downstream approximate network model offering exceptional versatility. This approach is demonstrated here in a series of detailed 3D simulations of blood flow, performed using the commercial software FLUENT?, through an asymmetric arterial bifurcation. Two cases are considered: first a healthy system patterned after the left main coronary arterial bifurcation, and second a diseased case where an occlusion has developed in one of the daughter vessels, resulting in strengthening the asymmetry of the bifurcation. Rapid convergence of the iterative process was achieved in both cases. Subtle changes occur in the shear patterns of the daughter vessels, whereas the flow distribution is quite different. This work describes numerical simulations of a hot jet in cross‐flow with applications to anti‐ice systems of aircraft engine nacelles. Numerical results are compared with experimental measurements obtained at ONERA to evaluate the performances of LES in this industrial context. The combination of complex geometries requiring unstructured meshes and high Reynolds number does not allow the resolution of boundary layers so that wall models must be employed. In this framework, the relative influence of subgrid‐scale modelling and conjugate heat transfer in LESs of aerothermal flows is evaluated. After a general overview of the transverse jet simulation results, a LES coupled with a heat transfer solver in the walls is used to show that thermal boundary conditions at the wall have more influence on the results than subgrid scale models. Coupling fluid flow and heat transfer in solids simulations is the only method to specify their respective thermal boundary conditions. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Cardiovascular diseases are one of the major causes of long‐term morbidity and mortality in human beings. The nearly epidemic increase in prevalence of such diseases poses a serious threat to public health and calls for efficient methods of diagnosis and treatment. Non‐invasive diagnostic procedures such as MRI are often used in this context; however, these are limited in terms of spatial and temporal resolution and do not provide information on time‐dependent pressures and wall shear stresses—key quantities considered to be partially responsible for the formation and development of related pathologies. The present study is concerned with the numerical simulation of oscillatory flow through the abdominal aortic bifurcation. Computational fluid dynamics simulation of oscillatory flow in a branched geometry at high Reynolds numbers poses considerable challenges. The present study reports a detailed comparison of simulations performed with a finite volume and a finite element method, two approaches with significant differences in their discretization strategy, treatment of boundary conditions and other numerical aspects. Both solvers were parallelized, using loop parallelization of the BiCGStab linear solver for the finite volume and domain decomposition based on the Schur complement method for the finite element technique. The experience gained with these two approaches for the solution of flow in a bifurcation forms the focus of this study. Although similar results were obtained for both methods, the computation time required for convergence was found to be significantly smaller for the finite element approach.
