Intransitive Permutation Group with Bounded Movement

Let G be a intransitive permutation group on a set with no fixed point in ; let m, n be a positive integer and let |^g – | m, for every and g G. When G has t orbits and degree n close to [2mp/(p – 1)] + t – 1, this paper constructs such a group with m close to [n(p – 1)/2p].AMS Subject Classification: 20BXX.     

Non-Transitive Generalizations of Subdirect Products of Linearly Ordered Rings

Weakly associative lattice rings (wal-rings) are non-transitive generalizations of lattice ordered rings (l-rings). As is known, the class of l-rings which are subdirect products of linearly ordered rings (i.e. the class of f-rings) plays an important role in the theory of l-rings. In the paper, the classes of wal-rings representable as subdirect products of to-rings and ao-rings (both being non-transitive generalizations of the class of f-rings) are characterized and the class of wal-rings having lattice ordered positive cones is described. Moreover, lexicographic products of weakly associative lattice groups are also studied here.     

The Structure of the (Outer) Automorphism Group of a Bieberbach Group

Referring to Tits alternative, we develop a necessary and sufficient condition to decide whether the normalizer of a finite group of integral matrices is polycyclic-by-finite or is containing a non-Abelian free group. This result is of fundamental importance to conclude whether the (outer) automorphism group of a Bieberbach group is polycyclic-by-finite or has a non-cyclic free subgroup.     

Analysis of Henrici's Transformation for Singular Problems

Henrici's transformation is the underlying scheme that generates, by cycling, Steffensen's method for the approximation of the solution of a nonlinear equation in several variables. The aim of this paper is to analyze the asymptotic behavior of the obtained sequence (s _n ^* ) by applying Henrici's transformation when the initial sequence (s _n ) behaves sublinearly. We extend the work done in the regular case by Sadok [17] to vector sequences in the singular case. Under suitable conditions, we show that the slowest convergence rate of (s _n ^* ) is to be expected in a certain subspace N of R ^p . More precisely, if we write s _n ^* =s _n ^* ,N+s _n ^* ,N, the orthogonal decomposition into N and N , then the convergence is linear for (s _n ^* ,N) but ( _n ^* ,N) converges to the same limit faster than the initial one. In certain cases, we can have N=R ^p and the convergence is linear everywhere.     

Induced local actions on taut and Stein manifolds

Let act by biholomorphisms on a taut manifold . We show that can be regarded as a -invariant domain in a complex manifold on which the universal complexification of acts. If is also Stein, an analogous result holds for actions of a larger class of real Lie groups containing, e.g., abelian and certain nilpotent ones. In this case the question of Steinness of is discussed.

     

Galois Stability, Integrality and Realization Fields for Representations of Finite Abelian Groups

For a given field F of characteristic 0 we consider a normal extension E/F of finite degree d and finite Abelian subgroups GGL _n (E) of a given exponent t. We assume that G is stable under the natural action of the Galois group of E/F and consider the fields E=F(G) that are obtained via adjoining all matrix coefficients of all matrices gG to F. It is proved that under some reasonable restrictions for n, any E can be realized as F(G), while if all coefficients of matrices in G are algebraic integers, there are only finitely many fields E=F(G) for prescribed integers n and t or prescribed n and d.     

The Selmer Groups of Elliptic Curves

Let E/K be an elliptic curve with K-rational p-torsion points.The p-Selmer group of E is described by the image of a map λk and hence an upper bound of its order is given in terms of the class numbers of the S-ideal class group of K and the p-division field of E.     

On the p—Local Rank of Finite Groups

In this paper,we shall mainly study the p-solvable finite group in terms of p-local rank,and a group theoretic characterization will be given of finite p-solvabel groups with p-local rank two.Theorem A Let G be a finite p-solvable group with p-local rank plr(G)=2 and Op(G)=1.If P is a Sylow p-subgrounp of G,then P has a normal subgroup Q such that P/Q is cyclic or a generalized quaternion 2-group and the p-rank of Q is at most two.Theorem B Let G be a finite p-solvable group with Op(G)=1.Then the p-length lp(G)≤plr(G);if in addition plr(G)=lp (G) and p≥5 is odd,then plr(G)=0 or 1.
