A large amount of inedible plant material, generated as a result of plant growth in a Controlled Ecological Life Support System
(CELSS), should be pretreated and converted into forms that can be recycled on earth as well as in space. The main portion
of the inedible biomass is lignocellulosic material. Enzymatic hydrolysis of this cellulose would provide sugars for many
other uses by recycling carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen through formation of carbon dioxide, heat, and sugars, which
are potential foodstuffs. To obtain monosaccharides from cellulose, the protective effect of lignin should be removed. White-rot
fungi degrade lignin more extensively and rapidly than other microorganisms.Pleurotus ostreatus degrades lignin effectively, and produces edible and flavorful mushrooms that increase the quality and nutritional value
of the diet. This mushroom is also capable of metabolizing hemicellulose, thereby providing a food use of this pentose containing
polysaccharide. This study presents the current knowledge of physiology and biochemistry of primary and secondary metabolisms
of basidiomycetes, and degradation mechanism of lignin. A better understanding of the ligninolytic activity of white-rot fungi
will impact the CELSS Program by providing insights on how edible fungi might be used to recycle the inedible portions of

A novel piezoelectric immunosensor based on mixed self-assembled monolayers (mixed SAMs) formed by short-chain amine- and carboxyl-terminated thiols has been developed to immobilize antigens onto gold electrodes for detecting antisperm antibody (AsAb) in human serum samples. The properties and the enhanced performance of the affinity biosensor interface based on mixed SAMs are investigated. Most importantly, analytical results of several human serum samples using the developed technique are in satisfactory agreement with those given by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method in the concentration ranging from 32.3 to 300.0 mU/ml. It means the procedure proposed in this paper is likely to have a great potential in research and may play an important clinical role in a few years later. 相似文献

The use of (certified) reference materials and quality control materials can form a suitable basis for evaluating measurement uncertainty of routine measurements. In particular when these materials are used for quality control purposes, it is not always evident how the quality control data can be used in the uncertainty budget of a routine measurement. Current guidance documents on the evaluation of measurement uncertainty and the use of reference materials treat this subject only in part, or in very generic terms. ISO/REMCO has established a new working group that will provide practical guidance and examples on how to use quality control data in the evaluation of measurement uncertainty. A short introduction to the subject is given.

Monolayer hydrate (MLH) NaxCoO2·y′H2O was obtained from superconducting bilayer hydrate (BLH) NaxCoO2·yH2O by partial extraction of H2O molecules between the CoO2 layers. Magnetization measurements indicated that electron densities in the CoO2 layer of the MLH phase remained unchanged after the water extraction. Nevertheless, superconductivity was completely suppressed in the MLH phase. This strongly suggests that the highly 2D nature in the BLH phase due to its thick insulating layers consisting of H2O molecules and Na+ ions plays an important role for inducing superconductivity. 相似文献

Traceability is a property of the result of a measurement. Since values carried by (reference) materials must also have been
obtained, of necessity, by measurement, the definition of traceability also applies to reference materials. It is extremely
helpful to give the traceability (of the origin) of a reference material a separate name, i.e. 'trackability'. An analysis
of the function of values carried by reference materials, shows that they can fulfill different functions, depending on the
intended use. One of the functions located outside the traceability chain – and hence not very relevant for establishing traceability
– is evaluating the approximate size of the uncertainty of the measurement of an unknown sample by performing a similar measurement
on a reference material, used as a 'simulated sample'. Another function is located inside the traceability chain, where the
reference material is used as an added 'internal standard'. Then, the value carried by the reference material is essential
for establishing the traceability of the measured value of an unknown sample. In the latter application, the reference material
acts as an 'amount standard' (the certified value for amount is used).

Polyurea microcapsules about 2.5μm in diameter containing phase change material for thermal energy storage application were synthesized and characterized by interfacial polycondensation method with toluene-2,4-diisocyanate and ethylenediamine as monomers in an emulsion system. Hexadecane was used as a phase change material and OP, which is nonionic surfactant, and used as an emulsifier. The chemical structure and thermal behavior of the microcapsules were investigated by FTIR and thermal analysis respectively. The compound Ca14MnP11 crystallizes in the Ca14AlSb11 structure type with the tetragonal space group I41/acd (Z=8) and lattice parameters of , c=20.7565(9) at 90 K. The structure consists of MnP49− tetrahedron, P37− trimer, 4 P3− isolated anions and 14 Ca2+ cations. Similar to other compounds of this structure type containing phosphorous, the P37− trimer has a central P atom that is best modeled in the structure as being equally split between two sites. In addition, there is no additional distortion of the manganese-containing tetrahedron compared with the main group analog, Ca14GaP11, suggesting that the Mn oxidation state is Mn2+. Temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility shows that the compound is paramagnetic over the entire temperature range measured (2-300 K). The data can be fit with a modified Curie-Weiss law and provide an effective magnetic moment of 5.80 (2) B.M. with a Weiss constant of −2.13(2) K and . This moment is significantly higher than those measured for any of the Mn-containing analogs and is consistent with Mn2+. This result will be discussed in light of the electron counting scheme for Mn compounds of the Ca14AlSb11 structure-type. 相似文献
