ESCA, Expert Systems Applied to Chemical Analysis, started its research in March 1987, with the aim of building prototype expert systems for HPLC method development. Results of this research have been published as the work has progressed. The project is now completed and this paper summarises some of the overall project conclusions. Seven different expert systems have been built which tackle problems throughout the process of method development, four stand-alone systems and three integrated systems. The object of ESCA was to evaluate the applicability of expert system technology to analytical chemistry and not all the systems were built for commercial uses. Many of the systems tackle problems specific to one or more of the partners and thus may not be useful outside this environment. However, the results of the work are still pertinent to analysts wishing to build their own systems. These results are described, however, the emphasis of the paper is on those systems developed for method validation.Method validation for HPLC is a complex task which requires many characteristics of the method to be tested, e.g. accuracy, precision, etc. The expert systems built within ESCA concern the validation of precision. Two systems were developed for repeatability testing and ruggedness testing. The method validation process can be divided into several discrete stages, these include: (1) The selection of the method feature to test, for instance which factors can influence the ruggedness of a method. (2) The definition of a test procedure, for instance an efficient statistical design. (3) The execution of experiments and the interpretation of results. (4) A diagnosis of any observed problem. This paper describes these two systems in some detail and summarises some of the results obtained from their evaluation. It concludes that expert systems can be useful in solving analytical problems and the integration of several expert systems can provide extremely powerful tools for the analyst.  相似文献

The production of chemicals and fuels, or energy-rich compounds, from water by sunlight is described as a particularly attractive means for the conversion of solar energy to a valuable renewable resource. The redox properties of photoexcited molecules and the operating mechanism of light-driven systems are first considered. The mechanism of water oxidation carried out by higher plants and green algae-which is actually one of the most important biochemical reactions—as well as that of artificial photosystems, up-to-now designed trying to simulate the natural process with higher efficiency and simplicity, are likewise discussed. A number of biological and chemical light-driven systems are presented as practical ways to solar energy conversion.  相似文献

The systematic integration of the small 2π- and 4π-electron systems cyclopropenylium ion, cyclopropenone, oxo-cyclobutenylium ion, and cyclobutadiene into phane chemistry was initiated only a few years ago. [n2]Cyclopropenylophanes, [n2]cyclopropenonophanes, metal-capped [n4]cyclobutadienosuperphanes, and other new families of double-decker phane species became available from cycloalkydiynes through special methods of double [2+1]cycloaddition with carbenes and metal complex induced dimerization by double [2+2]cycloaddition. Phane-specific structural features were elucidated by X-ray structural analyses. Cyclic voltammetry and PE spectroscopy as well as MO calculations reealed considerable interactions between closely spaced π-electron systems. Decapping cyclobutadienosuperphanes formally extended the synthetic principle to threefold [2+2]cycloadditions resulting in [n4]-bridged tricyclo-[4.2.0.03, 5]octa-3,7-dienes, which represent a new type of cage compounds. Moreover, completion to fourfold [2+2]addition was achieved with the photoinduced transformation of [34]bridged tricyclo[4.2.0.03, 5]octa-3,7-diene into propella[34]cubane.  相似文献

The reversed-phase high-performance liquid Chromatographic (RP-HPLC) behaviour of the binary chelates of V(V) and V(IV) with 4-(2-pyridylazo) resorcinol (PAR) and ternary chelates of vanadium with PAR and auxiliary ligands: hydrogen peroxide, hydroxylamine, tartrate and citrate were studied using a C18 column. The complex double-peak chromatograms of V(IV)/V(V)-PAR systems were studied and the origin of each peak was proved. Vanadium in ternary systems with PAR and hydrogen peroxide was found exclusively in V(V)-H2O2-PAR complex (single peak on the chromatogram) despite its initial oxidation state. The double role of hydroxylamine (complex agent and reductor) in vanadium systems with PAR was confirmed: in the V(V) system three species were identified (V(V)-PAR, V(V)-NH2OH-PAR and V(IV)-PAR), but in the V(IV) system only two: V(IV)-PAR and V(V)-NH2OH-PAR. Citrate and tartrate giving single peak were found as auxiliary ligands in ternary V(V) systems of analytical importance. Due to its masking potential towards iron (III) ions, citrate was chosen as the most suitable third component of a ternary vanadium system with PAR, to form the basis of an RP-HPLC method for direct determination of V in steel.  相似文献

Characteristic features of the kinetics of solid-state cage reactions with distributed parameters of the relaxing matrix were considered. Depending on the ratio of the constants of the reaction rate and relaxation of environment, the kinetics of chemical conversions can be either exponential or nonexponential. Plausible reasons for the unsteady-state character of the kinetics of the processes of two types,viz., the reactions of alkyl radicals in amorphous alcohol matrices and conversions in biological systems, were discussed. The main reason for the unsteady-state character of the reactions of the first type is a dispersion of the equilibrium distances between the reagents. Kinetics of the reactions of the second type, such as rebinding of the ligands in the heme-containing proteins (e.g., in myoglobin), is determined by the distances in the pairs of reagents and the relaxation transitions. 17O NMR experiments using enriched water were performed to followthe hydrolysis-condensation process of dimethyldiethoxysilanetetraethoxysilane and a 1/1 mixture of dimethyldiethoxysilane andtetraethoxysilane (H2O/OEt = 0.5; pH = 2). The spectrarecorded over several hours time period were simulated to followquantitatively the variations of residual water, hydroxyl groups(Si–17 H) and oxo bridges (Si–17 –Si). Presence of a resonance signal due oxo bridges between di- andtetrafunctional Si units clearly demonstrates that co-condensationreactions occur to a large extent between the two alkoxides, and that thesebonds are stable during the aging period.  相似文献

Construction of new effective photovoltaic devices based on organic dyes has important implications for modern and future technologies. In this article, we studied the equilibrium, the rate, and the spectral manifestation of the reaction of [(2,3,7,8,12,18-hexamethyl,13,17-diethyl,5-(2-pyridyl)porphyrinato)cobalt(II)]–[2′-(pyridin-4-yl)-5′-(pyridin-2-yl)-1′-(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)-2′,4′-dihydro-1′H-pyrrolo[3′,4′ : 1,2](C60-Ih)[5,6]fullerene] triad formation as well as its spectral properties and photo electrochemical behavior. The cobalt porphyrin–pyridyl-substituted fullerene mixtures in toluene are self-assembling systems due to axial donor–acceptor binding between Co of the porphyrin complex and N-pyridyl of the substituted fullerene. The formation rate constant, k298K, and the stability constant, K298K, of donor–acceptor triad formed by coordination of two substituted fullerene molecules to Co porphyrin are (44.4 ± 0.8) mol L?1 s?1 and (56 ± 16)×107 L2 mol?2, respectively. Modification of the titanium electrode coated with the natural oxide film was carried out using the porphyrin–fullerene triad and its individual components. Photopotential and photocurrent density of the system with modified electrode were studied. The obtained results are of interest for creating porphyrin-based donor–acceptor systems as components in organic photovoltaics.  相似文献

The present research work is associated with the fluorescence investigations of binary aqueous mixed surfactants solutions of anionic bis-sulfosuccinate gemini surfactant (BSGSMA1,8) and three different conventional surfactants—anionic viz. sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), cationic viz. cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), and nonionic surfactant viz. Triton X 100. Steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy technique has been utilized to examine the micellization behavior of aqueous solution of pure myristyl alcohol-based BSGSMA1,8 having flexible methylene chain [(CH2)8] as spacer group. Critical micelle concentration (CMC), aggregation number (N), and micropolarity of pure and mixed surfactants systems were explored during the investigations. The results revealed the best synergism behavior of prepared gemini BSGSMA1,8 with SDS as compared to CTAB and Triton X 100. The maximum reduction in the value of pyrene intensity ratio (I1/I3) was observed for gemini and SDS mixed surfactant solution. On the other hand, the increased I1/I3 value of mixed gemini with Triton X 100 exhibited that mixed surfactant system of anionic gemini BSGSMA1,8 with non-ionic Triton X 100 is not as compact as other mixed surfactant systems. Aggregation number increased and micropolarity decreased with increased concentration of gemini surfactants.  相似文献
