The higher surface area of selectively grown multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and the better proximity of the reactant species in in situ microemulsion polymerization were used to attach the polystyrene (PS) nanoparticles to the outer wall of MWCNTs. Attachment were achieved by replacing surfactant with PS nanoparticles. SEM showed that the MWCNTs and PS nanoparticles were distributed in the composite. High resolution transmission electron microscopy showed successful anchoring of PS nanoparticles to the outer wall of the MWCNTs. In addition, anchoring enhanced the Raman's G/D ratio of the MWCNT and degradation temperature in PS nanoparticles. A mechanism of attachment of PS nanoparticles on the outer wall of MWCNT was proposed. The experimental data reveal that the addition of ethylene–acrylic acid copolymer (EAA) into carbon black (CB)/polypropylene (PP) composites can improve the electrical conductivity of CB/PP composites by two to six orders of magnitude at a comparatively low CB content (φ), and when φ = 2.5 vol %, 60/40 of PP/EAA is an optimum for electrical conductivity improvement. The dynamic rheological data show that with increasing φ there are apparent rheological percolations for CB/PP composites. A modified Kerner–Nielson equation can be used to describe the correlation between electrical percolation and dynamic viscoelastic percolation. The addition of EAA into CB/PP composites leads to apparent changes in dynamic rheological behaviors. When φ = 2.5 vol %, a rheological percolation appears in CB/PP/EAA (CPE) composites with increasing EAA content. The similar rheological behaviors correspond to the similar morphological structures for CPE composites with φ = 5.0 vol %. The appearance of bumps in the van‐Gurp–Palmen plots corresponds to the formation of network structure in CB/PP and CPE composites, and the more perfect the networks, the higher the amplitude of the bumps. All data indicate that the van‐Gurp–Palmen plot is sensitive to the formation of filler particle networks or cocontinuous phase which spans the whole composite. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A digital speckle pattern interferometer with optical fibres is proposed for composite materials diagnostics in an operative environment. Detection of a variety of flaws, such as disbonds, delaminations and cracks in aircraft components, is reported. Additional fringes are introduced for linearizing the fringe pattern and obtaining quantitative deformation measurements by Fourier transform analysis.  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP)/octavinyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) composites were prepared by two different processing methods: reactive blending and physical blending, and the crystallization behavior of PP and PP/POSS composites was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry and polarized optical microscope. The results showed that the crystallization of PP in PP/POSS composites was strongly influenced by the different processing methods. POSS particles can act as effective nucleating agent, accelerating the crystallization of PP. The crystallization rate increased more dramatically for the reactive blending composite due to the stronger nucleating effect of PP grafted POSS. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nanomagnetite thermosets were obtained by thermally activated ring opening copolymerization of benzoxazine groups coated on the surface of the nanomagnetite with bare benzoxazine. For this purpose, carboxylic acid containing 1,3‐benzoxazine was synthesized and covalently bonded on magnetite nanoparticles by postcoating method. The average size of benzoxazine coated nanoparticles was 40–100 nm as determined by Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) measurements. The crystal structure of benzoxazine coated nanoparticles was shown to be magnetite by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Thermally activated curing behavior of nanomagnetite‐benzoxazines has also been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Magnetic and thermal properties of the cured samples were investigated. It was shown that the precursor nanomagnetite benzoxazine and cured samples exhibited typical ferromagnetic character with low coercivities between 1.5 and 2.5 Oe. The first part of the paper deals with homogenization models of unidirectional composites, in which each phase of the material is bounded by parallel cylindrical surfaces. For a GFRP with epoxy resin and glass fibres, five elastic constants for six models of the composite are calculated. In the second part, the results of strain gauge tests, photoelasticity investigations, and scanning electron inspection are discussed. With these data, some elastic constants of the composite in tension and compression are found. A comparison of experimental and analytical results is presented. Scientists have developed techniques for synthesizing and characterizing many new materials including conjugated small molecules, polymers and gold particles protected by conjugated organic chromophores for testing specific sensing properties in the past decade. Still, the design and synthesis or supermolecular systems fabrication of novel materials with controlled sensing properties is a significant and ongoing challenge within nanoscience and nanotechnology. Recently, our group has successfully constructed a series of chemosensors using small organic molecules, conjugated polymers and gold nanoparticles for real-time detection of specific analytes. The chemosensors show high selectivity and sensitivity in the detection of cations and biologic analytes and thus are potentially promising for applications in sensing assay system. In this review, recent sutdies on the design, synthesis and photo-physical properties of novel materials and construct of chemosensors are summarized with an emphasis on the development in our groups in recent years. The effect of the amount of absorbed water on the physicomechanical indices (tensile modulus, tensile strength, and ultimate strain) of composites based on secondary polyethylene (SPE) of two trademarks and linen yarn production waste (LW), both with and without a coupling agent (diphenylmetane diisocyanate - DIC), is evaluated. It is shown that the strength properties considerably depend on the time of water sorption and on the blend composition. The tensile strength decreases with increased amount of absorbed water (with increased time of exposure to distilled water) and with increased content of LW in the composites. This can be explained by the plasticizing effect of water molecules, which is confirmed by the increase in the ultimate strain of specimens after their exposure to water. The slight increase in the strength observed for the systems modified with DIC is probably caused by cross-linking of the free diisocyanate in the system under the action of moisture. The diisocyanate intensifies the interfacial interaction and retards the water-sorption process. Therefore, the resulting strength indices of these systems are higher than those of the unmodified compositions.  相似文献
