We have derived a precise thermodynamic definition of the standard free energy to form a cluster which is used in nucleation theory. The results [Eq. (9)] have a form differing slightly from the form usually used in nucleation theory and show that the Lothe-Pound correction factor is based on a misconception concerning the standard states involved.  相似文献

The charge distribution in small dielectric droplets is calculated on the basis of continuum medium approximation. There are considered charged liquid spherical droplets of methanol in the range of nanometer sizes. The problem is solved by the following way. We find the free energy of some ion in dielectric droplet, which is a function of distribution of other ions in the droplet. The probability of location of the ion in some element of volume in the droplet is a function of its free energy in this element of volume. The same approach can be applied to other ions in the droplet. The obtained charge distribution differs considerably from the surface distribution. The curve of the charge distribution in the droplet as a function of radius has maximum near the surface. Relative concentration of charges in the vicinity of the center of the droplet does not equal to zero, and it is the higher, the less is the total charge of the droplet. According to the estimates the model is applicable if the droplet radius is larger than 10 nm.  相似文献

Droplet wetting on two parallel filaments may assume a barrel-shaped morphology or a liquid bridge depending upon the filament diameter and spacing, droplet volume, and contact angle. This paper is aimed to examine the dependency of droplet wetting length upon the above parameters. In the process, morphology of either a barrel-shaped droplet or a liquid bridge sitting on two parallel filaments is determined numerically by using surface finite element method (SFEM). Variation of wetting length with contact angle is examined at varying droplet volume, filament spacing, and droplet morphology. It is found that the droplet wetting length increases with decreasing filament spacing ratio as well as contact angle while it also increases with the growth of droplet volume. The dependency of wetting length upon contact angle behaves sensitive to filament spacing in the case of stable liquid bridges, while it exhibits nearly constant sensitivity to the contact angle in the case of barrel-shaped droplets. The quantitative relations yielded in this study can be considered as characteristic curves applicable for a variety of droplet-on-filament systems, particularly useful to wetting property characterization of filaments, micro liquid delivery, biological cell manipulation, etc.  相似文献

Abstract

The emission spectra of the charge-transfer crystal of anthracene-tetrachlorophtalic anhydride were studied in the 1.7-300 K temperature range. Delayed fluorescence was observed over the whole temperature range. At temperatures below ~40 K it results from heterogenous (mobile exciton-trapped exciton) triplet-triplet annihilation. At higher temperatures it is due to homogenous triplet-triaplet annihilation. The existence of mobile excitons is also proved by the character of the ESR lines which are very narrow Lorentzians. The phosphorescence, observed only in the range 1.7–40 K, originates from at least two different kinds of traps with energies ~6 cm?1 and ~140 cm?1, respectively. The vibrational structure of the phosphorescence is identical to that of anthracene, with 0—0 band blue-shifted by ~400cm?1. A kinetic model of trapping and detrapping of triplet excitons as well as the nature of the traps are discussed.  相似文献

Direct numerical simulation (DNS) of turbulent reacting mixing layers laden with evaporating inert droplets is used to assess the droplet effects in the context of the conditional moment closure (CMC) for multiphase turbulent combustion. The temporally developing mixing layer has an initial Reynolds number of 1000 based on the vorticity thickness with more than 16 million Lagrangian droplets traced. An equivalent mixture fraction incorporating the inert vapour mass fractions clearly demonstrates the effects of vapour dilution on the mixture. Instantaneous fields and conditional statistics, such as the singly conditioned scalar dissipation rate, the gas temperature 〈 T g|η 〉, conditional variance of the gas temperature 〈 T g ”2|η 〉 and conditional covariance between the fuel mass fraction and gas temperature 〈 Y f T g |η 〉 show considerable droplet effects. Comparison between the droplet-free and droplet-laden reacting mixing layer cases suggests significant extinction in the latter case. The resulting large conditional fluctuations around the conditional means contradict the basic assumption behind the first-order singly conditioned CMC. More sophisticated CMC approaches, such as doubly conditioned or second-order CMCs are, in principle, better able to incorporate the effects of evaporating droplets, but significant modelling challenges exist. The scalar dissipation rate doubly conditioned on the mixture fraction and a normalized gas temperature 〈 χ | η, ζ 〉 exemplifies the modelling complexity in the CMC of multiphase combustion.  相似文献

In this study, mixed fuel droplets of ethyl alcohol and biodiesel with different volumes or ratios were prepared and the related expansion, injection and micro-explosion phenomena were investigated. During the tests, a mixed-fuel droplet was hung on a high-temperature-resistant Cr-Ni wire, which was transported to the preheating piston for heating and then was ignited automatically. Micro-needles and an infusion set also were employed to prepare mixed droplets with identical ratios but different volumes. Using a single-lens-reflex (SLR) camera, colour videos that captured the combustion process of the mixed droplets were taken and were processed into colour images using Adobe Premiere Pro CC. The colour image series were analysed to determine the ignition delay time, the burnout time and the flame characteristics during combustion of mixed droplets with different ratios. Instantaneous grey images were obtained by means of high-speed photography during combustion of the mixed droplets with different volumes and different ratios, and of droplets of E40 (in which the volume ratio of ethyl alcohol was 40%). Using Image pro plus and Origin software, the variation of normalised mean droplet diameter with time over the whole combustion cycle was calculated and the underlying reasons for various combustion phenomena were analysed.  相似文献

A model is presented for a one-dimensional laminar premixed flame, propagating into a rich, off-stoichiometric, fresh homogenous mixture of water-in-fuel emulsion spray, air and inert gas. Due to its relatively large latent heat of vaporisation, the water vapour acts to cool the flame that is sustained by the prior release of fuel vapour. To simplify the inherent complexity that characterises the analytic solution of multi-phase combustion processes, the analysis is restricted to fuel-rich laminar premixed water-in-fuel flames, and assumes a single-step global chemical reaction mechanism. The main purpose is to investigate the steady-state burning velocity and burnt temperature as functions of parameters such as initial water content in the emulsified droplet and total liquid droplet loading. In particular, the influence of micro-explosion of the spray’s droplets on the flame’s characteristics is highlighted for the first time. Steady-state analytical solutions are obtained and the sensitivity of the flame temperature and the flame propagating velocity to the initial water content of the micro-exploding emulsion droplets is established. A linear stability analysis is also performed and reveals the manner in which the micro-explosions influence the neutral stability boundaries of both cellular and pulsating instabilities.  相似文献

Information of droplet size and size distribution lays the basis for investigations of atomization mechanisms and performance optimization. However, the laser diffraction and phase Doppler particle analyzers have difficulty in accurately characterizing sprays with a wide range of droplet sizes and very large droplets, especially if a large number of droplets are aspherical. A method to measure size in such large-droplet sprays based on digital imaging with backward illumination was developed, including an image acquisition system and image process programs. Calibration of the measurement system was performed using a dot calibration target with different dot sizes. An experimental setup was designed and established to characterize spray nozzles under different operation loads, as well as different nozzle arrangements. Results show that the droplet size of sprays ranges from dozens of microns to several millimeters. The superiority of wide load range for such nozzles was indicated by the size-measurement results under half-load to full-load operations. The present study revealed that the image processing technique can be effectively implemented for in-line size measurements of sprays with a wide distribution of droplet size and aspherical droplets, which would be difficult to characterize by other methods.  相似文献

Direct numerical simulation of diluted combustion by evaporating droplets   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Diluted combustion has been studied using DNS in a three-dimensional temporally developing reacting shear-layer with the oxidizer stream laden with evaporating droplets. The gaseous phase is described in the Eulerian frame while the discrete droplet phase is treated in the Lagrangian frame, with strong two-way coupling between the two phases through mass, momentum and energy exchange. Grid-resolution-independent results have been obtained in cases without and with droplets. A comprehensive parametric study has been conducted by varying the initial Stokes number (St0) and mass loading ratio (MLR0). Detailed field analysis has been conducted to examine the complex nonlinear interactions among droplet dynamics, evaporation, turbulence and combustion, and so on. Effects of evaporating droplets on averaged flow and combustion quantities have also been presented. In particular, the conditional scalar dissipation rate is found to be enhanced by evaporating droplets, which suggests that they can promote micromixing and combustion under certain conditions, in addition to their roles in combustion suppression. The transport equation for the mixture fraction variance has been analyzed, with a focus on the vaporization-related source terms. Such source terms exhibit more complex local variations in the present shear-flow non-premixed flame configuration, compared with the case in the homogeneous decaying turbulence configuration of Réveillon and Vervisch (2000).  相似文献
