Mathematical modeling of electromagnetic wave propagation in heterogeneous lossy coaxial cables with variable cross section

In this work, we focus on the time-domain simulation of the propagation of electromagnetic waves in non-homogeneous lossy coaxial cables. The full 3D Maxwell equations, that described the propagation of current and electric potential in such cables, are classically not tackled directly, but instead a 1D scalar model known as the telegraphist's model is used. We aim at justifying, by means of asymptotic analysis, a time-domain “homogenized” telegraphist's model. This model, which includes a nonlocal in time operator, is obtained via asymptotic analysis, for a lossy coaxial cable whose cross section is not homogeneous.     

On critical cases of Sobolev's inequalities for Heisenberg groups

We prove some Trudinger-type inequalities and Brezis-Gallouet-Wainger inequality on the Heisenberg group, extending to this context the Euclidean results by T. Ozawa.

Mixed mode fracture of a piezoelectric–piezomagnetic bi-layer structure with two un-coaxial cracks parallel to the interface and each in a layer

The purpose of the present work is to study the mixed mode fracture of a piezoelectric–piezomagnetic composite with two un-coaxial cracks parallel to the interface and each in a layer. Methods of generalized dislocation simulation, Green’s function, Cauchy singular integral equation and Lobatto–Chebyshev collocation are combined together to get the numerical results of mechanical strain energy release rate (MSERR). Three kinds of effects are revealed by parametric studies, i.e., the free-surface effect, the shielding effect and the interference effect, and they are used to interpret the characteristics of COD and MSERR curves. In addition, the effects of shear loading, magnetic loading and electric loading on MSERR are also disclosed, respectively, by varying the corresponding loading factor.     

The oblique chiral nematic phase in calamitic bimesogens

ABSTRACT

The discovery of the oblique chiral (or, the twist-bend, N_TB) nematic phase predicted for bent-core mesogens has engendered much interest due to its unique structure and physical properties, and the possibility of use in the next generation of fast electro-optic technology. Bimesogenic calamitic as well as bent-core mesogens are found to form the N_TB phase. Here, we report direct measurements of the temperature dependence of the conical tilt and the evidence of volcano-like orientational distribution of molecules in the N_TB phase. Optical and x-ray scattering investigations of two single-component calamitic bimesogens and their mixtures show that, while the Maier–Saupe orientational distribution function (ODF) is valid for the higher temperature nematic phase, a generalised expansion in terms of even Legendre functions is needed for the N_TB phase. Temperature dependence of the ODFs and the order parameters 〈P₂(cosβ)〉, 〈P₄(cosβ)〉, and 〈P₆(cosβ)〉 has been measured in both phases. The parameters 〈P₂(cosβ)〉 and 〈P₄(cosβ)〉 increase/decrease in the N/N_TB phase with decreasing temperature, while 〈P₆(cosβ)〉 remains vanishingly small for all samples. The value of 〈P₄(cosβ)〉 becomes negative in the N_TB phase confirming a conical distribution of molecules as they follow a helical trajectory keeping the local director tilted at an angle α wrt the macroscopic director. The heliconical tilt calculated from ODFs, exhibits a power law behaviour with temperature, vanishing at the transition to the N phase.     

A new direction in design and manufacture of co-sensitized dye solar cells: Toward concurrent optimization of power conversion efficiency and durability

A novel methodology was implemented in the present study to concurrently control power conversion efficiency (η) and durability (D) of co-sensitized dye solar cells. Applying response surface methodology (RSM) and Desirability Function (DF), the main influential assembling (dye volume ratio and anti-aggregation agent concentration) and operational (performance temperature) parameters were systematically changed to probe their main and interactive effects on the η and D responses. Individual optimization based on RSM elucidated that D can be solely controlled by changing the ratio of vat-based organic photosensitizers, whereas η takes both effects of dye volume ratio and anti-aggregation concentration into account. Among the studied factors, the performance temperature played the most vital role in η and D regulation. In particular, however, multi-objective optimization by DF explored the degree to which one should be careful about manipulation of assembling and operational parameters in the way maximization of performance of a co-sensitized dye solar cell.

In this note, we point out two errors in the article “On the Neumann function and the method of images in spherical and ellipsoidal geometry” by Dassios and Sten. Two corrections are then proposed.

使用凝血四项指标诊断凝血功能是临床的常规检查,但根据经验进行诊断正确率不高.剔除临床上最重要的指标FIB后,建立支持向量机模型诊断的正确率和根据凝血四项指标诊断的正确率没有显著差异,100次模拟的平均正确率分别达到了95.4496%和95.5039%.
