Electron capture detector performance parameters in view of the response presentation forms

Summary Four most frequently used presentation forms of the ECD response are described. Equations describing the dependence of the sensitivity, linearity and minimum detectable concentration of the ECD working under constant frequency mode of operation on the pulse period are derived from Wenthworth’s kinetic model for all four forms mentioned above. The forms presented are compared on the basis of equations derived. Results of the calculations are given and some predictions are experimentally tested for sulphur hexafluoride. Good agreement was found between the predicted and observed relationships. Presented at the 15th International Symposium on Chromatography, Nürnberg, October 1984     

Resolving the copper interference effect on the stripping chronopotentiometric response of lead(II) obtained at bismuth film screen-printed electrode

As copper(II) is a common ion in a variety of analytical samples, its effect on the stripping response of lead(II) at bismuth film screen-printed carbon electrode (BFSPCE) was investigated. The study was conducted using a screen-printed three-electrode system (working, counter and reference electrodes), with the carbon-working electrode plated in situ with bismuth film. Copper present at significant concentration level in samples was found to affect the sensitivity of the electrode by reducing the constant current stripping chronopotentiometric (CCSCP) response of lead(II). Recovery of the lead stripping response at the BFSPCE in the presence of copper was obtained when 0.1 mM ferricyanide was added to the test solution. The ferricyanide added circumvents the detrimental effect of copper(II) by selectively masking the copper ions by forming a complex. The analytical utility of the procedure is illustrated by the stripping chronopotentiometric determinations of lead(II) in soil extracts.     

Effect of thermal history on crystallization and melting behaviour of lldpe

In this paper two LLDPE samples with their own structural parameters were studied by means of DSC. Experimental results show that DSC was good for revealing slight structural difference between these two samples. Furthermore, the effect of thermal history on crystallization and melting behaviour of LLDPE was observed clearly through varying conditions of thermal treatment.

Zusammenfassung Mittels DSC werden zwei LLDPE-Proben mit ihren eigenen Strukturparametern untersucht. Die Versuchsergebnisse zeigen, da\ sich DSC gut eignet, um gering fügige Unterschiede dieser zwei Proben nachzuweisen. Weiterhin wurde unter verschiedenen Bedingungen der Einflu\ der thermischen Vorgeschichte auf das Kristallisations-und Schmelzverhalten von LLDPE untersucht.

     

Cathode of a fuel cell with a solid polymer electrolyte: Calculating overall currents in the presence of a gas-diffusion layer

Mathematical apparatus, which makes it possible to perform calculations of the current-voltage characteristics of cathodes of fuel cells with a solid polymer electrolyte in conditions where there are present extraneous diffusion restrictions is proposed. In so doing, the partial pressure of oxygen and the absolute pressure of gas in the gas chamber may assume any values. First of all presented are the results of calculations of the current-voltage characteristics intrinsic to active layers of the air and oxygen cathodes, which are performed under the assumption that the extraneous diffusion restrictions are absent altogether. Thereafter, in the same conditions (at the same parameters that characterize the active layer of a cathode), obtained are results of a calculation of the current-voltage characteristics inherent in the air and oxygen cathodes in the presence of extraneous diffusion restrictions. Afterward there is performed an analysis of the way a gas-diffusion layer restricts the process of generation of current in a cathode and of what measures should be taken in order for the extraneous diffusion restrictions to become less significant.     

色谱分析发展简史及其给我们的启示

简要回顾了色谱分析技术的发展史，厘清了某些中文文献中的不妥表述。通过分析色谱发展过程中的几个重要突破，总结了在科学技术创新方面给我们的启示：（1）基础研究始终是色谱技术进步的源泉；（2）社会发展的需求是各种色谱方法创新的驱动力；（3）学科交叉是色谱分析技术创新的重要途径；（4）不懈坚持和勇于探索是科学技术创新的必要条件。最后对色谱发展的前景作了展望。     

The investigation of the (p,ρ,T) and (ps,ρs,Ts) properties of {(1−x)CH3OH + xLiBr} for the application in absorption refrigeration machines and heat pumps

The (p,ρ,T) and (p_s,ρ_s,T_s) properties of {(1−x)CH₃OH + xLiBr} over a wide range of state parameters are reported for the first time. The experiments were carried out in a constant volume piezometer over a temperature range from 298.15 K to 398.15 K, at 0.08421, 0.13617, 0.19692, 0.23133 and 0.26891 mole fractions and from atmospheric pressure up to 60 MPa. The experimental uncertainties are ΔT=±3 mK for temperature, Δp=±5·10⁻² MPa for high pressure and Δp=±5·10⁻⁴ MPa for atmospheric pressure, Δρ=±3·10⁻² kg · m⁻³ for density. An equation of state was derived for correlation of the experimental data of the solutions.     

Accuracy and CPU time of JE-TLM,PLRC-TLM and CRC-TLM methods for plasma medium

The current density (JE), the piecewise linear recursive convolution (PLRC) and the constant convolution recursive (CRC) techniques are developed and integrated into the transmission line matrix (TLM) algorithm. A comparison of these three schemes according to the criteria of accuracy and CPU time is presented. Numerical experiments show that JE provides the most accurate solution and requires the least CPU time; PLRC is nearly as accurate but consumes more CPU time than CRC.     

A note on the paper “characterization of all optimal solutions and parametric maximal flows in networks” of G. Ruhe (optimization 16 (1985) 1, 51-61)

First it is shown that the implementation of the algorithm proposed in the considered paper may cause some problems if no further specification is made as to one of its steps. Secondly, such a specification is suggested.
