In this work, we prove the existence of positive solution for the following class of problems where λ>0 and is a potential satisfying some conditions. Using the variational method developed by Szulkin for functionals, which are the sum of a C1 functional with a convex lower semicontinuous functional, we prove that for each large enough λ>0, there exists a positive solution for the problem, and that, as λ→+, such solutions converge to a positive solution of the limit problem defined on the domain Ω=int(V?1({0})).  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A striking feature of lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals confined in cylinder model exhibit double-twist director configurations. Evidence suggests that saddle-splay deformation is among the most important factors for the distortions of director. Previous researches limit the director to distort at a fixed plane (r-? plane) by using specific boundary conditions such as degenerate planar anchoring condition. In this work, we consider lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals confined between two coaxial cylinders with free-surface boundary conditions and Rapini-Papoular-type anchoring conditions. By using finite-difference iterative method to solve the numerical solution of Euler equation, we find that saddle-splay deformation leads to double-twist director configurations under free-surface boundary conditions, which consist of the result under degenerate planar anchoring conditions. Furthermore, at Rapini-Papoular-type anchoring conditions, saddle-splay deformation has a great influence on the director in the radial direction (r direction) and the director distorts in three-dimensional space. Remarkably, our method provides a more accurate theory basis for the measured values of saddle-splay elastic constant K24。  相似文献

This paper focuses on the further development of a previously published semi-empirical method for time domain simulation of vortex-induced vibrations (VIV). A new hydrodynamic damping formulation is given, and the necessary coefficients are found from experimental data. It is shown that the new model predicts the observed hydrodynamic damping in still water and for cross-flow oscillations in stationary incoming flow with high accuracy. Next, the excitation force model, which is one component of the total hydrodynamic force model, is optimized by simulating the VIV response of an elastic cylinder in a series of experiments with stationary flow. The optimization is performed by repeating the simulations until the best possible agreement with the experiments is found. The optimized model is then applied to simulate the cross-flow VIV of an elastic cylinder in oscillating flow, without introducing any changes to the hydrodynamic force modeling. By comparison with experiment, it is shown that the model predicts the frequency content, mode and amplitude of vibration with a high level of realism, and the amplitude modulations occurring at high Keulegan–Carpenter numbers are well captured. The model is also utilized to investigate the effect of increasing the maximum reduced velocity and the mass ratio of the elastic cylinder in oscillating flow. Simulations show that complex response patterns with multiple modes and frequencies appear when the maximum reduced velocity is increased. If, however, the mass ratio is increased by a factor of 5, a single mode dominates. This illustrates that, in oscillating flows, the mass ratio is important in determining the mode participation at high maximum reduced velocities.  相似文献

Abstract

Scanning confocal microscopy was used for contact angle measurement of individual microspheres. The measurements were carried out by using different laser‐scanned layers of the particle floating on the air–water interface. The ratio of the diameter for the cross‐section of the protruded area of the particle at the air–water interface to the actual diameter of the particle is used for contact angle measurements. Two systems, i.e., glass and polystyrene microspheres with diameters of 3–10 and 6 µm, respectively, with water were used for this investigation (this size range of particles are most relevant to inhalation applications). Using the developed methodology, contact angles of 27° and 41° were measured (with water) for glass and polystyrene particles, respectively. The theoretical error in contact angle measurement for the developed methodology is determined to be generally about 1° with a maximum of 3° for contact angle of particles ranging from 2 to 24 µm in size; the experimental error was 4–6°. The contact angles of glass and polystyrene particles were compared to those obtained from pendant drop method and confirmed.  相似文献

We define the “localized index” of longitudinal elliptic operators on Lie groupoids associated with Lie algebroid cohomology classes. We derive a topological expression for these numbers using the algebraic index theorem for Poisson manifolds on the dual of the Lie algebroid. Underlying the definition and computation of the localized index, is an action of the Hopf algebroid of jets around the unit space, and the characteristic map it induces on Lie algebroid cohomology. This map can be globalized to differentiable groupoid cohomology, giving a definition of the “global index”, that can be computed by localization. This correspondence between the “global” and “localized” index is given by the van Est map for Lie groupoids.  相似文献

This paper describes well‐posedness, spectral representations, and approximations of solutions of uniformly elliptic, second‐order, divergence form elliptic boundary value problems on exterior regions U in when N ≥ 3. Inhomogeneous Dirichlet, Neumann, and Robin boundary conditions are treated. These problems are first shown to be well‐posed in the space E1(U) of finite‐energy functions on U using variational methods. Spectral representations of these solutions involving Steklov eigenfunctions and solutions subject to zero Dirichlet boundary conditions are described. Some approximation results for the A‐harmonic components are obtained. Positivity and comparison results for these solutions are given. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
