Indirect Determination of Sulfide by Cold Vapor Atomic Absorption Spectrometry

A method for the determination of sulfide based on its interference with the determination of Hg by cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry is described. The decrease in mercury absorbance at 253.7nm is proportional to the concentration of sulfide over the range of 10–320ngmL^–1. The limit of detection was found to be 7ngmL^–1 and the relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) for the determination of different concentrations of sulfide was in the range of 1.8–2.2%. This method was applied to the determination of sulfide in whole human blood after gas-phase separation.     

Capillary gas chromatography of lower aliphatic C2?C5 aldehydes in the free form as a group of pungent odorants in air

The capillary gas chromatography of the C₂-C₅ lower aliphatic aldehydes (e.g.,acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, n- and i-butyraldehydes, n- and i-valeraldehydes) which, in the free form in air, have unpleasant odors and low threshold odor values, has been studied using cold-trap preconcentration with liquid oxygen. The capillary column outlet was connected to enable simultaneous detection by FID, ECD, FPD AND FTD (SID).     

Structural chemistry of bimetallic hydride complexes of titanium and aluminium: I. Crystal and molecular structure of [(η5-C5H5)2,Ti(μ-H)2AlH2]2(CH3)2NCH2CH2N(CH3)2C6H6

The structure of a titanium aluminium hydride complex of composition [(C₅H₅)₂TiAlH₄]₂(CH₃)₂NC₂H₄N(CH₃)₂C₆H₆ has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The complex forms triclinic crystals with unit cell dimensions a = 8.406(2), b = 10.117(2), c = 11.269(3) Å; α = 112.01(2)°, β = 109.25(2)°, γ = 87.04(2)°, space group P$\text{1}$, Z = 2 and density d = 1.21 g/cm³. The structure was refined to give a discrepancy index R = 0.056. The crystals are composed of centrosymmetric molecules of (Cp₂TiAlH₄)₂TMEDA (Cp = η⁵-cyclopentadienyl) and molecules of crystal benzene. Two moieties of Cp₂TiH₂AlH₂ are linked by a tetramethylethylenediamine molecule (r_AlN 2.11 Å). The aluminium atom is bonded to a titanium atom by a double hydride bridge (r_AlH b = 1.8, 1.6 Å, r_TiH b = 1.6 Å), and has trigonal bipyramidal stereochemistry, [H₄N] (r_AlH t = 1.6 Å).     

Ditertiary phosphine complexes of (ν-allyl)dicarbonylmolybdenum(II) and -tungsten(II)

Compounds of the type [XM(CO)₂(ν-allyl)L₂] (where X = Cl and Br; M = Mo and W; L₂ = Ph₂PCH₂PPh₂ and Ph₂ PCH₂CH₂PPh₂) have been prepard from the corersponding MeCN complexes. The spectral properties of these compounds and the effects of chelate rign size on ³¹P coordination shifts and J(¹⁸³W—³¹P) have been investigated.

本文研究了饱和硫化钠溶液对土壤样品中硫化汞的浸取效率(其加标回收率达100%),以及用硝酸和硫化钠溶液对样品中汞的选择性浸取并研究了土壤中硫化汞垂直分布。提出了利用硝酸、饱和硫化钠溶液浸取,由冷原子荧光法选择性测定土壤及河流沉积物中硫化汞的新方法。用该方法对同一样品进行8次测定,其相对标准偏差为7.1%。     

Comment on papers by K. Shanahan that propose to explain anomalous heat generated by cold fusion

Dr. Shanahan has published two papers (Thermochim. Acta 428 (2005) 207, Thermochim. Acta 382 (2002) 95) in which he argues that excess heat claimed to be produced by cold fusion is actually caused by errors in heat measurement. In particular, he proposes that unrecognized changes in the calibration constant are produced by changes in the locations where heat is being generated within the electrolytic cell over the duration of the measurement. Because these papers may lend unwarranted support to rejection of cold fusion claims, these erroneous arguments used by Shanahan need to be answered.     

Simultaneous Determination of Four Active Components in a Compound Formulation by Liquid Chromatography

Summary A rapid and accurate LC method is described for simultaneous determination of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (PSE), acetaminophen (AMP), dextromethorphen hydrobromide (DEX), and diphenhydramine hydrochloride (DPH) in a compound formulation. Chromatographic separation of the four drugs was achieved on a Hypersil CN column (150 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 m particle) by use of a mobile phase comprising a mixture of 3 mM ion-pairing solution, 2% aqueous triethylamine solution, and 2 M phosphoric acid, 68:48:88 (v/v), pH 3.0, delivered at 1.0 mL min^–1. Compounds were detected at 215 nm and the run time was less than 10 min. The linearity, accuracy, and precision of the method were found to be acceptable over the concentration ranges 6.1–36.4 g mL^–1 for PSE, 65.0–390.0 g mL^–1 for AMP, 3.1–18.6 g mL^–1 for DEX, and 5.0–30.0 g mL^–1 for DPH.     

Two-beam interference detection of the changes in fibre structural parameters during low drawing process

A Pluta polarizing interference microscope with a fibre stretching device attached was used to detect the changes in molecular structure that occur during the fibre cold drawing process. Fibres drawn with low draw ratios show different types of deformation mechanisms. The interference patterns recorded at different draw ratios are used to relate the deformation mechanisms with the measured structural parameters. Some optical parameters are measured such as; refractive indices nand n birefringence n, the polarizability per unit volume , the orientation distribution function f(θ), the angle θ between the stretching direction and the chain axis, and the angle θ_m which the transition dipole moment of the molecular species makes with the molecular axis (chain axis). Three polymeric fibres (Polyethylene terephthalate PET, Polypropylene PP and Polyamide PA) were used in this study and their interferograms are illustrated.     

Accuracy and CPU time of JE-TLM,PLRC-TLM and CRC-TLM methods for plasma medium

The current density (JE), the piecewise linear recursive convolution (PLRC) and the constant convolution recursive (CRC) techniques are developed and integrated into the transmission line matrix (TLM) algorithm. A comparison of these three schemes according to the criteria of accuracy and CPU time is presented. Numerical experiments show that JE provides the most accurate solution and requires the least CPU time; PLRC is nearly as accurate but consumes more CPU time than CRC.
