Structural Analogy Method in Studies of Adamantanes

The potential of the structural analogy method in the topological studies of adamantane derivatives and analogs is demonstrated. The topological and structural characteristics of these compounds are calculated. Chromatographic retention indices were determined experimentally. Correlations between the topological indices and the physicochemical and chromatographic characteristics are investigated.     

Analysis of terpenoic composition of conifer needle oils by steam distillation/extraction,gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

Summary The essential oils of Estonian spruce and pine needles have been analysed by a combination of steam distillation/extraction, GC and GC-MS. According to their monoterpene composition Estonian pines belong to a high carene chemotype with monoterpenes representing up to 85% of total oil. Estonian spruce needle oil contains up to 70% of oxygenated terpenes and more limonene and 1,8-cineole than the same spruce species [Picea abies (L.) Karst.] from other localities.A total of 60 components were identified. Coefficients of variation describe the range of component contents in individual trees within the population.     

Influence of the cathodic polarization on the stability of Ti surface in concentrated KOH solutions

The stability of spontaneous thin layers and thin layers formed upon cathodical polarization of Ti in KOH solutions have been studied by potentiostatic and ellipsometric methods. At open circuit potential (OCP) the strongly adherent films, whose thickness depends on the concentration of the KOH solution, were formed. During the cathodic polarization the transformation of these films to weakly adsorbed precipitated layers on the electrode surface was observed. Comparing the theoretically computed curves with the experimental Ψ vs Δ loci measured ellipsometrically, the complex indices of refraction and the thickness of the generated films, from 3.6 to 60 nm in 1 M KOH and from 36 to 105 nm in 5 M KOH (adherent to the electrode surface), were determined. At OCP the rate of film growth increases with increasing the concentration of KOH solution. Cathodic polarizations change the chemical composition and retard the rate of film growth. Based on the ellipsometric and electrochemical data the chemical compositions of the formed films consisted of TiO₂, Ti₂O₃, TiO₂·H₂O, Ti(OH)₃ and TiOOH·nH₂O.

用定量体积排除色谱方法研究了过渡金属Fe(Ⅲ)、Co(Ⅲ)、Cu(Ⅱ)、Ni(Ⅱ)的乙酰丙酮螯合物在四氢呋喃溶液中的加合和缔合行为。在溶液中乙酰丙酮钴(Ⅲ)以单个螯合物分子的形式存在,乙酰丙酮铜(Ⅱ)和乙酰丙酮铁(Ⅲ)与溶剂加合生成加合物,乙酰丙酮铁(Ⅲ)除加合物外还存在缔合度为2-10的多分散缔合物,乙酰丙酮镍(Ⅱ)水合物在四氢呋喃中产生了加合交换作用,同时存在缔合度为6左右的缔合物。色谱数据给出了螯合物、加合物及缔合物     

Gas-liquid chromatography of thioesters of perfluorocarboxylic acids 1. Characteristics of retention

Retention of thioesters of perfluoropentanoic acid C₄F₉C(O)SR was studied by GLC on packed and capillary columns using stationary phases SE-30, SKTFT-50X, XE-60, and Carbowax 20M. The retention indices of these compounds were calculated, and their relationship with the structure of the compounds and the conditions of the analysis were established. Asymptotically independent topological indices on random trees

Topological indices are graph invariants used in computational chemistry to encode molecules. A frequent problem when performing structure-activity studies is that topological indices are inter-correlated. We consider a simple topological index and show asymptotic independence for a random tree model. This continues previous work on the correlation among topological indices. These findings suggest that a size-dependence in a certain class of distance-based topological indices can be eliminated.AMS subject classification: 05C80, 60E10, 92E10     

Gas chromatographic and mass spectrometric characterization of isomeric alkylthiophenes (C20) and their occurrence in deep sea sediments

Six isomeric C₂₀ alkylthiophenes were synthesized in order to prove the occurrence of such compounds in various deep sea sediments. As expected from the analogy with the corresponding saturated hydrocarbons, 2- and 3-heptadecylthiophene have considerably longer relative retention times than the isomeric isoprenoid compounds, i.e. 2- and 3-(4,8,12-trimethyltridecyl)thiophene and 3- and 4-methyl-2-(3,7,11-trimethyldodecyl)thiophene. Covats retention indices for all compounds were determined by isothermal analysis at 190°C on two different silicone-coated capillary columns. The mass spectra of the monoalkylated thiophenes show a base peak at m/z 98 corresponding to a Mcafferty rearrangement product in the case of the 3-substituted isomers, whereas a simple benzylic cleavage dominates in the mass spectra of 2-alkylthiophenes. 4-Methyl-2-(3,7,11-trimethylodecy)thiophene is an exception from this simple rule because also shows the McLafferty rearrangement as dominant fragmentation. Two of the isoprenoid thiophenes are prominent compounds in various deep sea sediments.     

Gas chromatography of halogenated adamantanes

The main thermodynamic characteristics of the adsorption of haloadamantanes on graphitized thermal carbon black were determined by experimental measurements and by calculations in terms of molecular-statistic theory of adsorption. Using experimental data, the Kovac retention indices were calculated and the optimum conditions for gas-chromatographic separation of haloadamantanes on stationary phases with different polarity were elucidated. The influence of the cage effect in the adamantane unit on the chromatographic properties of haloadamantanes was established.     

Molecular interactions in 1-pentanol +2-methyl-2-butanol mixtures: Static dielectric constant,viscosity and refractive index investigations at 5, 25 and 45°C

Static dielectric constants, refractive indices and viscosities of 1-pentanol +2-methyl-2-butanol mixtures were measured at 5, 25 and 45°C. The results show that the mixing of the two isomers modifies the polarizability and the resistence of viscous flow of the system depending on the composition and temperature. Short range intermolecular interactions producing hetero-alcohol open dimers are considered.     

Gas chromatographic retention indices for alkenes on OV-101 and squalane capillary columns

Summary Gas chromatographic retention indices for 47 C₅ to C₈ alkenes on OV-101 dimethylsilicone at 50 and 70 °C were determined within a standard deviation of 0.3i.u. Data obtained on OV-101 are compared with those measured on squalane. The comparison of the retention index and dl/dT values from both columns is presented as linear regression equations with correlation coefficients greater than 0.98.
