The closed-form expression for the angular spread of Gaussian Schell-model (GSM) array beams propagating through atmospheric turbulence is derived. It is shown that the angular spread θ sp of GSM array beams for the superposition of the cross-spectral density function is smaller than of those for the superposition of the intensity. However, the θ sp of GSM array beams for the superposition of the intensity is less sensitive to turbulence than that for the superposition of the cross-spectral density function. For the superposition of the cross-spectral density function, θ sp of GSM array beams with smaller coherence length σ 0, smaller waist width w 0, smaller beam number N, and larger separation distance x d are less affected by turbulence than of those with larger σ 0,w 0,N, and smaller x d ; while, for the superposition of the intensity, the effect of turbulence on θ sp is independent of N and x d . In addition, the angular spread is nearly the same for the two types of superposition when σ 0 or w 0 is small enough, or x d is large enough. On the other hand, it is found that there exist equivalent GSM array beams for the two types of superposition which may have the same directionality as the corresponding fully coherent Gaussian beam in free space and also in turbulence.  相似文献

In this paper we study the degree of cross-polarization of a beam-like field whose cross-spectral density matrix is symmetric with respect to the permutation of its spatial arguments. Formulas were derived expressing the degree of cross-polarization in terms of the generalized Stokes parameters. With the help of an uniformly polarized quasi-homogeneous model source, the effect of degree of cross-polarization of a source on the degree of polarization of the radiated beam was demonstrated, that, two sources with same spectral degrees of coherence and polarization but with different degrees of cross-polarization can generate beams that have different spectral degrees of polarization in the far field.  相似文献

Understanding of coherence properties of optical fields is of basic importance both in classical optics and in quantum physics. Coherence properties of electromagnetic laser modes are only now beginning to be explored and have not yet been tested experimentally, except in the simplest cases. In this paper, we first study theoretically the coherence properties of azimuthally polarized laser modes and we clarify the distinction between coherence and correlations in stochastic electromagnetic fields, a distinction which has up to now not been fully understood and has, in fact, been a subject of controversy. Our analysis clearly illustrates the distinction between these two concepts. After elucidating theoretically the coherence properties of radially polarized laser modes, we describe an experimental study of their properties, made by the use of a recently introduced reversed-wavefront Young’s interferometer. A good agreement between theory and experiment has been found.  相似文献

Crystal structures and optical properties of the δ-O2 phase and the ε-O8 phase have been investigated by using the ab initio pseudopotential plane-wave method. It is found that the phase transition is of the first order with a discontinuous volumetric change from the antiferromagnetic δ-O2 phase to the nonmagnetic ε-O8 phase, consistent with the experimental findings. The energy band calculations show that the direct band gap changes into an indirect band gap after the phase transition. The apparent change in the optical properties can be used for identifying the phase transition from δ-O2 to ε-O8.  相似文献

A first-principles plane wave method with the ultrasoft pseudopotential scheme in the frame of the density functional theory (DFT) is performed to calculate the lattice parameters a and c, the bulk modulus B0 and its pressure derivative B0 of the zinc-blende GaAs (ZB-GaAs), rocksalt GaAs (RS-GaAs), CsCl-GaAs, NiAs- GaAs and wurtzite GaAs (WZ-GaAs). Our results are consistent with the available experimental data and other theoretical results. We also calculate the phase transition pressures among these different phases. In the present paper we study the dynamics of one-electron atoms in the presence of both a linearly polarized squeezed vacuum and a magnetic field along the polarization vector of the photonic field. We adopt the dipole approximation and approach the problem via path integral methods. After integrating over the light variables for certain initial and final squeezed vacuum states we treat the path integral over the spatial variables via Monte-Carlo methods. As an application we calculate the survival probability of the ground state of a one-electron atom for various values of the magnetic field. We argue that an ionic lattice surrounded by a Fermi liquid changes phase several times under pressure, oscillating between the symmetric phase and a low-symmetry dimerized structure, as a consequence of Friedel oscillations in the pair potential. Phase oscillations explain the tendency towards dimerization which has been recently reported for the light alkali metals under high pressure. Moreover, a restoring of the symmetric phase is predicted for such elements at an even higher density. Raman spectroscopy was used to investigate the lattice dynamics and structural transformations in bismuth titanate (Bi4Ti3O12) nanocrystals prepared by a chemical coprecipitation technique. The crystal structure of the samples of different grain sizes was determined by X-ray-diffraction analysis. The evolution of the Raman spectrum with grain size was characterized by an intensity decrease, a broadening of the line width, a frequency shift, and the disappearance of the Raman mode. The results revealed the appearance of a size-driven phase transition from orthorhombic to tetragonal phases at a critical size of 44 nm. This result is quite consistent with the X-ray-diffraction measurement and differential thermal analysis. The origin was attributed to the grain-size effect and explained by the surface-energy mechanism. Phase transformation characteristics of a Ti-Ni-Pd shape memory thin film composition spread have been investigated. The thin film composition spread was fabricated from elemental targets using an ultra-high vacuum combinatorial magnetron sputter-deposition system and subsequent annealing at 500 °C for 1 h in situ. Automated temperature-dependent resistance measurements (R(T)), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and X-ray diffraction measurements (XRD) have been applied for the high-throughput characterization of the composition spread. Reversible phase transformations within the measurement range of −40 to 250 °C within the Ti-Ni-Pd system were observed for compositions with Ti content between 50 and ∼59 at.%. For Ti-richer films, Ti2Ni and Ti2Pd precipitates are inhibiting reversible phase transformations. The transformation temperatures and the thermal hysteresis were determined from R(T) measurements. Rising transformation temperatures with increasing Pd content and significantly lower thermal hysteresis for the B2-B19, compared to the B2-R-B19′ transformations were found in good agreement with published data. For low Pd contents (<7-12 at.%, depending on the Ti content) two-stage B2-R-B19′ transformations were observed. Compositions with higher Pd contents showed a single-stage B2-B19 transformation. Increasing Ti content within the B2-B19 transformation region results in a linear increase of the thermal hysteresis and decreasing transformation temperatures.  相似文献

We study numerically the formation and interactions of incoherent white-light solitons in a nonlinear media with logarithmic saturable nonlinearity based on the coherent density approach. We find that not only the formation but also the interactions of incoherent white-light solitons are fundamentally a collective effect, where all the frequencies participate in the process, and self-adjust their respective contributions to the formation and interactions. We find that the interactions of incoherent white-light solitons in logarithmic media are always attractive.  相似文献
