We investigate the phase-dependent gain and absorption behaviors of mid- to far-infrared lights under a cascade configuration in an asymmetric semiconductor three-coupled-quantum-well (TCQW) structure based on intersubband transitions (ISBTs). In the proposed TCQW scheme, the amplification of the probe and signal fields, i.e., the far- and mid-infrared waves, can be realized with realistic experimental parameters. The gain-absorption spectra are strongly dependent on the relative phase of the applied laser fields. The influences of the probe detuning and the two pump Rabi energies on the gain-absorption responses of two weak far- and mid-infrared light fields are also discussed in details. The results show that amplifications of the far- and mid- infrared waves can be achieved by adjusting the relative phase, the probe detuning, and the two pump Rabi energies appropriately. Such a semiconductor system is much more practical than its atomic counterpart because of its flexible design and the wide adjustable parameters. For practical applications, this investigation may provide a new possibility for realizing the efficient gain of far- and mid-infrared waves in the solid-state materials.  相似文献

An exact, and explicit, expression for the second derivative of the generalized multiple-prism angular dispersion is provided. This corresponds to the third derivative of the generalized exit angle with respect to the refractive index ( n 3 φ 2,m ). Higher derivatives, in abstract notation, are also given. The generalized equations are presented in a format applicable to practical prismatic configurations utilized in laser pulse compression schemes in the femtosecond domain. Exact values, as a function of the refractive index, are given for the first, second, and third angular derivatives for compensating double-prism and four-prism configurations of practical interest.  相似文献

We study the collimated emission characteristics from a dipole source inside a negative-effective-refractive-index photonic crystal with a quasi-cavity constructed by a concave photonic crystal reflector. The emissions along the ±X and −Y directions are forbidden by the quasi-cavity, so that most emissions propagate along the +Y direction. Simulation results show that a narrow collimated beam is achieved due to the near-zero negative effective refractive index. Moreover, the half-power beam width of such a collimated beam can be reduced to 3.48° by optimizing the size of the source area. Such a compact structure would have potential applications in micro-optical devices.  相似文献

When two thin soft elastomeric films are separated from each other, an elastic instability develops at the interface. Although similar instability develops for the case of a soft film separating from a rigid adherent, there are important differences in the two cases. For the single-film case, the wavelength of instability is independent of any material properties of the system, and it scales only with thickness of the film. For the two-film case, a co-operative instability mode develops, which is a non-linear function of the thicknesses and the elastic moduli of both films. We investigate the development of such instability by energy minimization procedures. Understanding the nature of this instability is important, as it affects the adhesive compliance of the system and thus the energy release rate in the debonding of soft interfaces.  相似文献

We illustrate our experimental observation of coexisting the controllable spatial splitting and intensity suppression of four-wave mixing (FWM) beam in a V-type three-level atomic system. We consider a model of a macro-ion surrounded by small ions of an electrolyte solution. The finite size of ionic charge distributions of ions, and image charge effects are considered. From such a model it is possible to construct a statistical field theory with a single fluctuating field and derive physical interpretations for both the mean field and two-point correlation function. For point-like charges, at the level of a Gaussian (or saddle point) approximation, we recover the standard Poisson-Boltzmann equation. However, to include ionic correlation effects, as well as image charge effects of individual ions, we must go beyond this. From the field theory considered, it is possible to construct self-consistent approximations. We consider the simplest of these, namely the Hartree approximation. The Hartree equations take the form of two coupled equations. One is a modified Poisson-Boltzmann equation; the other describes both image charge effects on the individual ions, as well as correlations. Such equations are difficult to solve numerically, so we develop an (a WKB-like) approximation for obtaining approximate solutions. This, we apply to a uniformly charged rod in univalent electrolyte solution, for point like ions, as well as for extended spherically symmetric distributions of ionic charge on electrolyte ions. The solutions show how correlation effects and image charge effects modify the Poisson-Boltzmann result. Finite-size charge distributions of the ions reduce both the effects of correlations and image charge effects. For point charges, we test the WKB approximation by calculating a leading-order correction from the exact Hartree result, showing that the WKB-like approximation works reasonably well in describing the full solution to the Hartree equations. From these solutions, we also calculate an effective charge compensation parameter in an analytical formula for the interaction of two charged cylinders. Frictional stick-slip dynamics is discussed using a model of one oscillator pulled by a nonlinear spring force. We focus our attention on the nonlinear spring parameter k0. The dynamics of the model is carefully studied, both numerically and analytically. Our numerical investigation, which involves bifurcation diagrams, shows a rich spectrum of dynamical behavior including periodic, quasi-periodic and chaotic states. On the other hand, and for a good selection of parameters , the motion of the particle involves periodic stick-slip, erratic and intermittent motions, characterized by force fluctuations, and sliding. This study suggests that the transition between each of motion strongly depends on the nonlinear parameter k0. The system also displays resonance at fractional frequencies of the oscillator.  相似文献

The possibility of storage of quantum information with photons is studied in the case of resonant transitions via many close lying exciton levels in a solid with impurity -atoms. The upper levels of the impurity atom form resonant Fano states, similar to the autoionization atomic states, due to the configuration interaction with the continuum of the exciton band. In this case slowing of light pulses is shown to be realistic, in the presence of the control field, down to the group velocity much lower than that in vacuum. The possibility of storage and reconstruction of a quantum pulse is studied in the case of the instantaneous switching on/off of the control field. It is shown that the signal quantum pulse cannot be stored undistorted for differing values of Fano parameters and for non-zero two-photon detuning and decay rate between the lower levels (decoherence). However, for small difference of the Fano parameters and for small values of the two-photon detuning and the decoherence there is no distortion in the case where the length of the pulse is much longer than the linear absorption (amplification) length, so the shape and quantum state of the light pulse can be restored.  相似文献
