Several types of ??‐matrices were shown to provide a data‐sparse approximation of non‐local (integral) operators in FEM and BEM applications. The general construction is applied to the operators with asymptotically smooth kernel function provided that the Galerkin ansatz space has a hierarchical structure. The new class of ??‐matrices is based on the so‐called blended FE and polynomial approximations of the kernel function and leads to matrix blocks with a tensor‐product of block‐Toeplitz (block‐circulant) and rank‐k matrices. This requires the translation (rotation) invariance of the kernel combined with the corresponding tensor‐product grids. The approach allows for the fast evaluation of volume/boundary integral operators with possibly non‐smooth kernels defined on canonical domains/manifolds in the FEM/BEM applications. (Here and in the following, we call domains canonical if they are obtained by translation or rotation of one of their parts, e.g. parallelepiped, cylinder, sphere, etc.) In particular, we provide the error and complexity analysis for blended expansions to the Helmholtz kernel. The paper presents quasi-static FE-simulations of the crack formation in a reinforced concrete bar without stirrups subject to tension. The material was modeled with a continuum smeared crack model using an elasto-plastic constitutive law. A linear Rankine criterion with isotropic softening and associated flow rule was adopted in a tensile regime. To ensure the mesh-independency, the softening parameter was enhanced by a characteristic length of micro-structure by means of a non-local theory. Attention was laid to the effect of a different characteristic length of micro-structure and initial bond-slip stiffness on the spacing of localized zones. 相似文献

The problem of the determination of the Lyapunov spectrum in chaotic advection using approximated velocity fields resulting from a standard FEM method is investigated. A fourth order Runge–Kutta scheme for trajectory integration is combined with a third order Jacobian matrix method with QR ‐factorization. After checking the algorithm on the standard Lorenz and coupled quartic oscillator systems, the method is applied to a model 3‐D steady flow for which an analytical expression is known. Both linear and quadratic approximated velocity fields succeed in predicting the Lyapunov exponents as well as describing the chaotic or regular regions inside the flow with satisfactory accuracy. An operator splitting method combining finite difference method and finite element method is proposed in this paper by using boundary-fitted coordinate system. The governing equation is split into advection and diffusion equations and solved by finite difference method using boundary-fitted coordinate system and finite element method respectively. The velocity correction algorithm is used in the finite element method to solve forced convection problems between parallel plates with a triangular step, for Reynolds numbers up to 1000. Equal-order interpolation functions for velocity, pressure and temperature are used. The solutions show a smooth variation of pressure. The streamfunction, isotherms, isobars and velocity profiles are presented for a typical Reynolds number of 500. In high temperature superconductor applications used in electric power devices, YBCO coated conductors may be subjected to short-circuit fault-currents that are 10–30 times the normal operating current. These over-currents cause heat generation, resulting in Ic degradation of the YBCO coated conductor. Therefore, it is necessary to fully investigate the degradation characteristics of YBCO coated conductors. In this article, we study the superconvergence analysis of conforming bilinear finite element method (FEM) for nonlinear Joule heating equations. Based on the rigorous estimates together with high accuracy analysis of this element, mean value technique and interpolation postprocessing approach, the superclose and superconvergent estimates about the related variables in H1‐norm are derived for semidiscrete and a linearized backward Euler fully discrete schemes, which extends the results of optimal estimates obtained for conforming FEMs in the previous literature. We consider the problem of improving outcomes for neurosurgery patients by enhancing intraoperative navigation and guidance. Current navigation systems do not accurately account for intraoperative brain deformation. We focus on the brain shift deformation that occurs just after the opening of the skull and dura. The heart of our system is a nonrigid registration technique using a biomechanical model. We specifically work on two axes: the representation of the structures in the biomechanical model and the evaluation of the surface landmark displacement fields between intraoperative MR images. Using the modified Hausdorff distance as an image similarity measure, we demonstrate that our approach significantly improves the alignment of the intraoperative images. 相似文献
