Anderson's by producing infinitely many commensurability classes of fibered hyperbolic 3-manifolds whose fundamental groups contain subgroups that are locally free and not free. In the present paper we generalize the divide lying in the unit disk, introduced by A'Campo, to compact, oriented, smooth surfaces, and prove a fibration theorem for generalized divides. As a consequence, we will show that, for any link L in the tangent circle bundle Y to the compact surface, there exists an additional knot K such that the link LK is the binding of a “positive” open book decomposition of Y.  相似文献

Suppose that G is a linearly reductive group. Good degree bounds for generators of invariant rings were given in (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 129 (4) (2001) 955). Here we study minimal free resolutions of invariant rings. For finite linearly reductive groups G it was recently shown in (Adv. Math. 156 (1) (2000) 23, Electron Res. Announc. Amer. Math. Soc. 7 (2001) 5, Adv. Math. 172 (2002) 151) that rings of invariants are generated in degree at most the group order |G|. In characteristic 0 this degree bound is a classical result by Emmy Noether (see Math. Ann. 77 (1916) 89). Given an invariant ring of a finite linearly reductive group G, we prove that the ideal of relations of a minimal set of generators is generated in degree at most ?2|G|.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with investigation of the influence of pre-stress and pre-polarization on the decay of Saint-Venant end effects in piezoelectric solids. This issue is examined within the framework of incremental anti-plane shear states for prestressed and prepolarized solids. Attention is confined to a specific class of materials, namely those of hexagonal 6mm or 4mm symmetry. It is shown that the mechanical and electrical fields uncouple in this case, and the governing system of coupled second-order linear partial differential equations uncouple to a single homogeneous second-order equation with constant coefficients for the displacement and a Poisson equation for the electric potential. The exact decay rate for mechanical and electrical end effects is determined and the influence of pre-stress and pre-polarization is assessed. Motivation for this work arises from the current rapid developments in smart materials technology.  相似文献

Summary. We give error estimates for the approximation of a laminated microstructure which minimizes the energy for a rotationally invariant, double well energy density . We present error estimates for the convergence of the deformation in the convergence of directional derivatives of the deformation in the “twin planes,” the weak convergence of the deformation gradient, the convergence of the microstructure (or Young measure) of the deformation gradients, and the convergence of nonlinear integrals of the deformation gradient. Results of H. Cartan about holomorphic automorphisms on bounded domains are generalized to the case of hyperbolic manifolds in the sense of Kobayashi. In this setting, we give an identity theorem together with its topological version. We show also that a sequence of automorphisms which converges uniformly on some nonempty open set, has a limit on the whole space which is an automorphism. At the end of the paper, conditions are given for the sequence of iterates of a self holomorphic map in order to be an automorphism.  相似文献

In 1957 Robert Ellis proved that a group with a locally compact Hausdorff topology T making all translations continuous also has jointly continuous multiplication and continuous inversion, and is thus a topological group. The theorem does not apply to locally compact asymmetric spaces such as the reals with addition and the topology of upper open rays. We first show a bitopological Ellis theorem, and then introduce a generalization of locally compact Hausdorff, called locally skew compact, and a topological dual, Tk, to obtain the following asymmetric Ellis theorem which applies to the example above:Whenever (X,⋅,T) is a group with a locally skew compact topology making all translations continuous, then multiplication is jointly continuous in both (X,⋅,T) and (X,⋅,Tk), and inversion is a homeomorphism between (X,T) and (X,Tk).This generalizes the classical Ellis theorem, because T=Tk when (X,T) is locally compact Hausdorff.  相似文献

In this paper we approximate the solution of a linear initial-value problem, making use of a Schauder basis for certain Banach space associated with such a differential problem.
