Uniform non-amenability of free Burnside groups

The aim of this paper is to show that free Burnside groups of sufficiently large odd exponent are non-amenable in a certain strong sense. More precisely their left regular representations are isolated from the trivial representation uniformly on finite generating sets. It follows that free Burnside groups are of uniform exponential growth. This answers a question of de la Harpe. The 1-type of a Waldhausen K-theory spectrum

We give a small functorial algebraic model for the 2-stage Postnikov section of the K-theory spectrum of a Waldhausen category and use our presentation to describe the multiplicative structure with respect to biexact functors.     

The first <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis></Superscript>-cohomology of some groups with one end

Let p be a real number greater than one. In this paper we study the vanishing and nonvanishing of the first L ^p -cohomology space of some groups that have one end. We also make a connection between the first L ^p -cohomolgy space and the Floyd boundary of the Cayley graph of a group. We apply the result about Floyd boundaries to show that there exists a real number p such that the first L ^p -cohomology space of a nonelementary hyperbolic group does not vanish. Multivalued differential equations on closed convex sets in Banach spaces

New derivation results for integrands and multifunctions via the Lipschitzean approximations are obtained. Applications to multivalued differential equations on closed convex sets are presented.     

The quantum de Rham complexes associated with SL h (2)

Quantum de Rham complexes on the quantum plane and the quantum group itself are constructed for the nonstandard deformation of Fun(SL(2)). It is shown that in contrast to the standardq-deformation of SL(2), the above complexes are unique for SL _h (2). Also, as a byproduct, a new deformation of the two-dimensional Heisenberg algebra is obtained which can be used to construct models ofh-deformed quantum mechanics.     

SO q (n+1,n−1) as a real form of SO q (2n,ℂ)

Quantum pseudo-orthogonal groups SO _q (n+1,n–1) are defined as real forms of quantum orthogonal groups SO _q (n+1,n–1) by means of a suitable antilinear involution. In particular, the casen=2 gives a quantized Lorentz group.     

Julia lines of random Dirichlet series

For the random entire functions defined by some random Dirichlet series almost surely every horizontal line is a Julia line without exceptional values. These results contain and generalize partially a theorem of P.L. Davies. The proofs are different.     

Sur la R-équivalence de torseurs sous un groupe fini

We give criteria for R-equivalence of torsors under finite constant group schemes over a field. In particular, using bitorsors, we obtain a Galois dévissage result which formalises and generalises a theorem of Philippe Gille in the case of local fields; for instance, Gille's theorem is shown to extend to higher local fields.     

An analytical proof of Hardy-like inequalities related to the Dirac operator

We prove some sharp Hardy-type inequalities related to the Dirac operator by elementary, direct methods. Some of these inequalities have been obtained previously using spectral information about the Dirac-Coulomb operator. Our results are stated under optimal conditions on the asymptotics of the potentials near zero and near infinity.
