Positive Quaternion Kähler Manifolds with fourth Betti number equal to one

Positive Quaternion Kähler Manifolds are Riemannian manifolds with holonomy contained in Sp(n)Sp(1) and with positive scalar curvature. Conjecturally, they are symmetric spaces. In this article we are mainly concerned with Positive Quaternion Kähler Manifolds M satisfying b₄(M)=1. Generalising a result of Galicki and Salamon we prove that M4n in this case is homothetic to a quaternionic projective space if 2≠n?6.     

Continuity properties in non-commutative convolution algebras, with applications in pseudo-differential calculus

We study continuity properties for a family {s_p}_p?1 of increasing Banach algebras under the twisted convolution, which also satisfies that a∈s_p, if and only if the Weyl operator a^w(x,D) is a Schatten-von Neumann operator of order p on L². We discuss inclusion relations between the s_p-spaces, Besov spaces and Sobolev spaces. We prove also a Young type result on s_p for dilated convolution. As an application we prove that f(a)∈s₁, when a∈s₁ and f is an entire odd function. We finally apply the results on Toeplitz operators and prove that we may extend the definition for such operators.     

Averaging, Conley index continuation and recurrent dynamics in almost-periodic parabolic equations

We study a non-autonomous parabolic equation with almost-periodic, rapidly oscillating principal part and nonlinear interactions. We associate to the equation a skew-product semiflow and, for a special class of nonlinearities, we define the Conley index of isolated compact invariant sets. As the frequency of the oscillations tends to infinity, we prove that every isolated compact invariant set of the averaged autonomous equation can be continued to an isolated compact invariant set of the skew-product semiflow associated to the non-autonomous equation. Finally, we illustrate some examples in which the Conley index can be explicitly computed and can be exploited to detect the existence of recurrent dynamics in the equation.     

Jordan Structures in Harmonic Functions and Fourier Algebras on Homogeneous Spaces

We study the Jordan structures and geometry of bounded matrix-valued harmonic functions on a homogeneous space and their analogue, the harmonic functionals, in the setting of Fourier algebras of homogeneous spaces.Supported by EPSRC grant GR/G91182 and NSERC grant 7679.     

Exceptional planes of percolation

Consider the standard continuous percolation in ℝ⁴, and choose the parameters so that the induced percolation on a fixed two dimensional linear subspace is critical. Although two dimensional critical percolation dies, we show that there are exceptional two dimensional linear subspaces, in which percolation occurs. Some properties of horocycles on Damek-Ricci spaces

We prove that a Damek-Ricci space is symmetric if and only if the geodesic inversion preserves the set of horocycles.     

Generalizations of P. Lévy's inversion theorem

We extend the Lévy inversion formula for the recovery of a bounded measure over $\text{R}$ from its Fourier-Stieltjes transform to bounded complex-valued, orthogonally scattered Hilbert space-valued, and spectral projection operator-valued measures over any first countable locally compact Abelian group. All our results are direct generalizations of known inversions for $\text{R}$.     

Surface order large deviations for high-density percolation

Summary We derive surface order large deviation estimates for the volume of the largest cluster and for the volume of the largest region surrounded by a cluster of a Bernoulli percolation process restricted to a big finite box, with sufficiently large parameter. We also establish a useful version of the isoperimetric inequality, which is the main tool of our proofs.     

Deformation program for principal series representations

We suggest a realization of the deformation program for principal series representation of a semisimple Lie group by use of a generalized Weyl correspondence.
