The Dugdale crack model is generalized to the case of plane strain. The governing equations are set up to determine the stresses in the plastic zone. Numerical results from specific problems are analyzed and compared with those for plane stress state and other cases. Within the context of linear elasticity, a stress singularity of the form Hrλ−1 may exist at the interface corner of a bi-material joint, where r is the radial distance from the corner, H is the stress intensity factor and λ−1 is the order of the singularity. Recent experimental results in the literature support the use of a critical value of the intensity factor H=Hc as a fracture initiation criterion at the interface corner. In this paper, we examine the validity and limitations of this criterion for predicting the onset of fracture in a butt joint consisting of a thin layer of an elastic-plastic adhesive layer sandwiched between two elastic adherends. The evolution of plastic deformation at the corner is determined theoretically and by the finite element method, and the solution is compared with the extent of the elastic singular field. It is shown that Hc is a valid fracture parameter if h>B(Hc/σY)1/(1−λ) where the non-dimensional constant B=100 for β=0 and B=13 for β=α/4. Here, h is the thickness of the adhesive layer, σY is the uniaxial yield stress of the bulk adhesive and (α,β) are Dundurs’ parameters (Dundurs, J., J. Appl. Mech. 36 (1969) 650). Experimental results for aluminium/epoxy/aluminium and brass/solder/brass sandwiched joints are used to assess the role of plastic deformation on the validity of the failure criterion.  相似文献

Thin sheets of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) blends were studied by tensile testing, optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Eyring's two-process yielding theory was used to analyze the data of yield stress as a function of strain rate and temperature, and satisfactory curve-fitting results were obtained. Furthermore, stress whitening was found to have occurred in the necked regions of tensile specimens under a certain range of yielding conditions. These conditions corresponded to the activation of Process II yielding of Eyring's theory. The whitening was found to be a result of formation of microvoids that initiated at the interface between iPP and LLDPE. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Damage zones of brittle-ductile (B-D) transition in PP/EPDM blends are studied in this paper. The contribution of crazing and shear yielding zones in damage zones to energy dissipation of blends was measured with computer image analysis (CIA) and the transition of shear yielding zone (A_(sh)) with rubber volume fraction (V_f) was also manipulated. Results showed that the B-D transition of impact strength of blends corresponded to the fracture mechanism in PP/EPDM blends, from matrix crazing to matrix shear yielding. In addition, two new parameters, density of energy dissipation for crazing zone (F_(cz)) and for shear yielding zone (F_(sh)), are first obtained in this paper. The value of F_(sh) is about four times larger than that of F_(cz) for PP/EPDM blends, which confirmed that the matrix shear yielding is a more effective way of energy dissipation in blends.  相似文献

[iPr2P]2P? SiMe3 and [iPr2P]2PLi – Synthesis and Reactions Structure of [iPr2P]2P? P[PiPr2]2 [iPr2P]2P? SiMe3 1 and [iPr2P]2PLi 2 were prepared to investigate the influence of the bulky alkyl groups on formation and properties of the ylides R2P? P?P(X)R2 (R = iPr, tBu; X = Br, Me) in reactions of 1 with CBr4 and of 2 with 1,2-dibromoethane or MeCl, resp. Compared to the iPr groups the tBu groups favour the formation of ylides. With CBr4 1 forms iPr2P? P?P(Br)iPr2 5 just as a minor product which decomposes already below ?30°C. With 1,2-dibromoethane 2 yields only traces of 5 but [iPr2P]P? P[P(iPr)2]2 7 as main product. With MeCl 2 gives iPrP? P?P(Me)iPr2 9 and [iPr2P]2PMe 10 in a molar ratio of 1:1. 9 is considerably more stable than 5. 7 crystallizes triclinic in the space group P1 (No. 2) with a = 10.813 Å, b = 11.967 Å, c = 15.362 Å, α = 67.90°, β = 71.36°, γ = 64.11° and two formula units in the unit cell.  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP)/Montmorillonite (MMT) nanoclay based composite was prepared by melt compounding with maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MA-g-PP) as a compatibilizer in a twin-screw extruder, and the test specimens were injection molded. Mechanical properties such as tensile modulus, flexural modulus, yield strength and maximum percent strains were measured for pure PP and PP based nanocomposite to establish the effect of clay platelet reinforcement. The fracture properties were measured by using the essential work of fracture (EWF) method. PP/clay nanocomposite shows 25% improvement in specific EWF compared to pure PP. The variation of EWF parameters with loading rate is discussed, whilst the mechanisms of fracture are considered in a subsequent paper.  相似文献
