Capabilities of the imaging techniques, in which X-rays are converted to electrons and then the emitted electrons are registered by means of an electron microscope, are analyzed, the focus being on the factors limiting lateral resolution at the stage of electron emission. Bearing in mind the tendency to use harder synchrotron X-rays for some combined X-ray-electron microscopy methods, calculations were made for two significantly different X-ray energies: E = 1.828 keV (K-edge of Si) and E = 11.923 keV (L3-edge of Au). By using Monte Carlo simulations of the electron trajectories beneath the surface of the sample we show that the radius of the spot from which photoelectrons are emitted could be as small as 1 nm. However, when proper account is taken of an entire electron cascade associated with the re-building of electron shells after photoelectron emission, spots more than one order of magnitude larger result, limiting the best lateral resolution to 20–30 nm.  相似文献

In this study, the viscoelastic phase separation process was studied further by time‐resolved light scattering, differential scanning calorimetry, and scanning electron microscopy in the system of poly(ether imide)‐modified bisphenol‐A dicyanate. It was observed that the evolution time of phase structure and relaxation time of diffusion flow of the bisphenol‐A dicyanate were similar with the phase diagram of curing conversion versus content of PEI. The results suggested that the viscoelastic phase separation was affected by the curing conversion of the system at the onset point of phase separation. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Characterization of the solid-state form (hydrate or polymorph) of a pharmaceutical active is a key scientific and regulatory requirement during development of and prior to seeking approval for marketing of the drug product. A variety of analytical methods are available to perform this task. By nature of the fundamental information it provides, TG-DTA offers advantages over other methods in regards to monitoring and quantitation of hydration state changes. In a single experiment with only a few milligrams of sample, TG-DTA perceives minor changes in phase, quantitates total water content and percent conversion, and illustrates hydrate type. All of this is accomplished without the necessity of generating time-consuming standard curves representing the differing ratios of hydrated to anhydrous forms. This study describes the use of TG-DTA to monitor and quantitate humidity induced solid–solid phase conversion of nitrofurantoin and risedronate. Percent conversion was qualitatively observed by both TG and DTA signals and quantitated by the TG.  相似文献

A decision scheme for the interpretation of spectra from wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry is described that encompasses elements from three areas of artificial intelligence: fuzzy logic, rule based expert systems and neural net technology.After transforming the recorded spectra to line spectra by appropriate background correction a reasoning scheme is applied that takes into account not only the observed spectra, but also the recording conditions and prior spectroscopic information regarding the relative emission probabilities and the usefulness of the different lines for the purpose of element identification. The latter is done on the basis of a previously described scheme to compute conditional a posteriori Bayes probabilities for a mean matrix. These different pieces of information are then assembled into a battery of fuzzy rules. The importance of the rules as well as the importance of the X-ray lines is determined in a training process, similar to the one in a feedforward back-propagation network.To further stabilize the results this network is pruned in a second training cycle. This, however, had little effect on the quality of interpretation.The advantages of this approach to the interpretation of X-ray spectra over older ones are numerous: the system adapts itself to better interpret spectra that are of greater importance to a laboratory as these are better represented in the training set; the fuzzy logic is capable of working with incomplete and uncertain knowledge, and the neural network results based on these fuzzy rules is readily interpretable by the X-ray spectroscopist as every rule can be expressed also in natural language as in any classical rule based system.On leave from Silesian University, Katowice, Poland  相似文献

The synthesis of mixed alcohols (C1-C5) from syngas has been studied at 6. 0 MPa over modified Co/CuLaZr catalysts. The molybdenum addition enhanced greatly the activity and the selectivity to alcohols. The improvement of hydrogenation capacity of the system via a reversible spillover effect of hydrogen could explain this effect, together with a great capacity of CO insertion, illustrated by the effect of C2H4 addition as a probe to syngas. Under our experimental conditions, a mixed alcohol production of 147.1g/kg. cat/h containing a proportion of 33. 1% of higher alcohols (C2 OH) was obtained with a selectivity to ROH of 52. 8%.  相似文献
