Abstract A recent study discussing different ring-resonator- and fiber-based gyroscopes concluded that the performance of a single-loop resonant fiber-optical gyro exceeds that of more complex ring-resonator-based gyros. It is demonstrated here that this conclusion applies as well to a gyro that consists of a closed loop of coupled-ring resonators with internal feedback. While this device is more sensitive to rotation than other gyro structures with the same footprint and losses, a simpler alternative consisting of a resonant single ring with an area equal to complex gyro structures still displays a higher degree of sensitivity. 相似文献

Abstract This article proposes a silicon-based arrayed waveguide grating operating in two wavelength bands simultaneously with central wavelengths of 1,550.12 nm and 1,310.12 nm. If input light to an arrayed waveguide grating consists of wavelengths around 1,550.12 nm, the proposed system will act as a four-channel demultiplexer with channel spacing of 0.8 nm. On the other hand, when input wavelengths are distributed around 1,310.12 nm, the same arrayed waveguide grating will divide the input to seven channels with channel spacing of 0.33 nm. 相似文献

Abstract This article proposes various combinations of optical amplifiers for a dense wavelength division multiplexed system and investigates the impact of reduced channel spacing at high bit rates in terms of quality factor, bit error rate, eye closure, and output power. It is reported that the hybrid optical amplifier (Raman–erbium-doped fiber amplifier [EDFA]) provides better results with a maximum covered single span distance (220 km) at channel spacing of 6.25 GHz. The maximum acceptable bit rate for the 12.5-GHz channel spacing dense wavelength division multiplexed system is also investigated, and the recommendation is provided that for the Raman–EDFA, Raman–EDFA–Raman, EDFA–Raman–EDFA, and EDFA–semiconductor optical amplifier–EDFA, the operating bit rate should not be greater than 20, 16, 19, and 20 Gbps, respectively. 相似文献

Abstract Video on demand is a very attractive service used for entertainment, education, and other purposes. The design of passive optical networking+Ethernet over coaxial cable accessing and a home gateway system is proposed. The network integrates the passive optical networking and Ethernet over coaxial cable to provide high dedicated bandwidth for the metropolitan video-on-demand services. Using digital video broadcasting, IP television protocol, unicasting, and broadcasting mechanisms maximizes the system throughput. The home gateway finishes radio frequency signal receiving and provides three kinds of interfaces for high-definition video, voice, and data, which achieves triple-play and wire/wireless access synchronously. 相似文献

AbstractThis article presents a novel bidirectional wavelength reconfigurable optical network utilizing a remotely pumped erbium-doped fiber amplifier and tunable fiber Bragg gratings. The system is experimentally demonstrated at a 10-Gb/s per channel over 20-km fiber span that verifies the metro-network range system performance. The achieved power penalty is less than 1 dB when compared to the back-to-back transmission link. Abstract This article introduces the main achievements resulting from the DWDM/ODC project. The five areas of research activity within the DWDM/ODC project cover some of the main issues of design and development of dense wavelength division multiplexing systems for transparent optical networks. These issues are: performance assessment with arbitrary optical filtering; performance of signaling formats; dispersion compensation strategies for directly and externally modulated systems in presence of nonlinear transmission-induced degradation; and the impact of noise and crosstalk in the extent of transparent optical networks. A fiber-optic Fabry–Perot (F–P) acoustic emission (AE) sensor system based on an improved double wavelength stabilization technique is described. Without stabilization, the sensor system drifts out of quadrature due to the presence of low-frequency dynamic strains. The stabilization is achieved by using a dense wavelength division multiplexer (DWDM) to generate two quadrature phase-shifted output signals. An optimum model of double wavelength stabilization is established. The filtering wavelengths of DWDM are calculated using an optimization design method. The performance of the developed sensor system was verified by two preliminary tests. One was a test on the stabilization of operating point of fiber-optic F–P sensor, and other was the detection of simulated AE signals generated by the impact and pencil lead breaking. The test results demonstrate that simulated AE signals are successfully detected using this stabilized sensor system, which solves the fade-out problem. 相似文献

Simultaneous downlink performance improvement and uplink wavelength reuse in a full-duplex millimeter-wave (MMW) radio-over-fiber (RoF) system by using a simple and cost-effective all-fiber optical interleaver are proposed and demonstrated. The MMW RoF downlink performance improvement is based on suppressing optical carrier-to-sideband ratio (OCSR), with which the mechanism is confirmed by theoretic analysis and derived experimental results. Measured results show that, by suppressing OCSR using a fabricated all-fiber optical interleaver, the downlink optical receiver sensitivity is improved about 2.1 dB. The downlink data rate is 1.25 Gbit/s and the carrier frequency is 58.1 GHz; the link consists of 6 km optical single-mode fiber and 1 m wireless connection. On the other hand, with the interleaver suppressing downlink OCSR, simultaneously an optical carrier is recovered from the RoF downlink and is reused for RoF uplink transmission. The uplink is operated at 62.9 GHz and the data rate is the same 1.25 Gbit/s. With the recovered optical carrier, a laser-free remote access point is achieved. By employing a tunable Ti:sapphire laser, we conducted an investigation into the effects of pump wavelength deviation on the laser performance of Yb:KLu(WO4)2 crystal. Pumping efficiencies exceeding 70% could be reached under lasing conditions with a 3-mm crystal of Yb concentration of 5.24 at.%, when the pumping wavelength was within the main absorption band centered at 981 nm extending from 974 to 990 nm. For different pumping wavelengths, the laser exhibited a single output–input relation with respect to absorbed pump power, giving an average slope efficiency amounting to 51%. 相似文献
