Two Polymorphs of (Anilinium)(18-Crown-6)[Ni(dmit)2]: Structure and Magnetic Properties

Two polymorphs of monovalent [Ni(dmit)₂]⁻ (dmit²⁻=2-thioxo-1,3-dithiole-4,5-dithiolate) crystals A and B, (anilinium)(18-crown-6)[Ni(dmit)₂], were prepared, and the structure and magnetic properties were investigated. In these crystals, the [Ni(dmit)₂]⁻ molecules form dimers, which arranged into chains between the supramolecular cation structure (anilinium)(18-crown-6). In crystal A, supramolecular cation formed a regular stack, inducing ladder structure of [Ni(dmit)₂], whose magnetism had been well fitted by spin ladder equation with the spin gap of Δ=190 K. Crystal B is ca. 3% more densely packed compared to crystal A. Due to the dense packing, supramolecular cation stack is distorted, which prevented the intermolecular interaction between [Ni(dmit)₂]⁻ dimers in direction corresponds to the ladder-leg direction in crystal A. Reflecting the [Ni(dmit)₂]⁻ arrangement, crystal B showed a temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility well reproduced by the singlet-triplet thermal activation model, whose antiferromagnetic exchange interaction (2J) was 140 K.     

~1H MAS NMR characterization of hydrogen over silica-supported rhodium catalyst

Hydrogen species in both SiO2 and Rh/SiO2 catalysts pretreated in different atmospheres (H2, O2, helium or air) at different temperatures (773 or 973 K) were investigated by means of 1H MAS NMR. In SiO2 and O2-pretreated catalysts, a series of downfield signals at -7.0, 3.8-4.0, 2.0 and 1.5-1.0 were detected. The first two signals can be attributed to strongly adsorbed and physisorbed water and the others to terminal silanol (SiOH) and SiOH under the screening of oxygen vacancies in SiO2 lattice, respectively. Besides the above signals, both upfield signal at -110 and downfield signals at 3.0 and 0.0 were also detected in H2-pretreated catalyst, respectively. The upfield signal at -110 originated from the dissociative adsorption of H2 over rhodium and was found to consist of both the contributions of reversible and irreversible hydrogen. TS和PTS单晶体的热刺激电流

测定了双(对甲基磺酸)2,4-己二炔-1,6-二醇酯(TS)及其不同聚合程度TS-PTS混合体和完全聚合的聚合物PTS在100-300K温度范围内的热刺激电流。在沿分子堆砌方向上(对PTS则是大分子链方向)上观察到了它们的热刺激电流,并在相应于它们相变152K和192K处呈现热刺激电流峰。研究了聚合程度对相变的影响,绘制了TS-PTS体系的相图。对另三个热刺激电流峰的归属作了定性解释。     

Sulfonated polypropylene ionomers

Polypropylene ionomers have been prepared by sulfonation of copolymers of propene and 7 methyl, 1-6 octadiene, followed by neutralization to cesium salts. Both WAXS and SAXS were used to study the morphology of the samples, while their thermal properties were studied by DSC and their mechanical properties by DMTA. The sulfonation process is shown to cause a further drop in crystallinity in addition to the effect of comonomer incorporation. Ion clustering is observed when the extent of sulfonation is high enough, the limit being dependent on the copolymer composition. The ion pairs which are not incorporated into the cluster cause a small-angle upturn in the WAXS pattern. The mechanical properties are strongly affected by the drop in crystallinity, but may be partly recovered due to ion clustering. No disruption of the ion clusters is observed before thermal decomposition of the polymer.     

Demonstration of methylene-ether bridge formation in melamine-formaldehyde resins

¹H and ¹³C NMR have been used for the quantitative determination of methylene-ether bridges in melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resins. The amount of methylene-ether bridges was determined by ¹³C NMR from the number of monomethylolated amino groups consumed in the condensation reactions and is in agreement with that calculated from the condensation water contents. This latter method, which involves a combination of ¹H and ¹³C NMR, is based on the amount of condensation water released during the formation of both methylene and methylene-ether bridges. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

A facile synthesis of 2-substituted-2,3-dihydro-4(1H)-quinazolinones in 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol

2-Substituted-2,3-dihydro-4(1H)-quinazolinones were obtained in high yields by condensation of anthranilamide with aryl, alkyl or heteroaryl aldehydes or ketones in the refluxing 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol without any catalyst.     

Biginelli reaction in aqueous medium: a greener and sustainable approach to substituted 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones

An environmentally benign aqueous Biginelli protocol for the synthesis of substituted 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones using polystyrenesulfonic acid (PSSA) as a catalyst has been achieved. These microwave-assisted reactions proceed efficiently in water in the absence of organic solvent, with simple filtration as the product isolation step.
