Microemulsions used in enhanced oil recovery are usually used in conjunction with a polymer solution that provides mobility control by reducing the permeability of the formation and/or increasing the viscosity of the injected fluid. Microemulsions, which are mixtures of at least four components — water, oil, surfactant and cosurfactant (and, usually, inorganic salts) are complex even in the absence of polymer and consequently, studies of their phenomenon tend to be phenomenological. An approach found to be useful to circumvent this has been to consider the microemulsion particles dispersed in their external phase to be macromolecules which retain their integrity when diluted with external phase or when mixed with polymers. Thus the dispersed phase components are treated as a pseudocomponent. If this approach is followed, many features of the phase diagram of polymer-microemulsion mixtures can be rationalized. It is therefore of some interest to determine whether a similar approach can be used to understand or predict the viscosity of mixtures in which a simple mixing rule for viscosities can be utilized to gain further insight into the polymer-microemulsion interaction.  相似文献

Enthalpies of mixing H have been measured for liquid binary mixtures of diisopropylether (DIPE)+benzene or cyclohexane and for liquid ternary mixtures diisopropylether+benzene+cyclohexane at 303.15 K and constant pressure using a C80 calorimeter. Among disaccharides, trehalose, a naturally-occurring glass-forming disaccharide, is particularly effective in terms of its ability to preserve several organisms under stress conditions. The present work is aimed to investigate the bioprotective action of trehalose on lysozyme as a function of temperature. In order to extract quantitative information about the dimensional changes of the proteins, we performed Small Angle Neutron Scattering measurements on lysozyme/D2O solutions in absence and in presence of the disaccharide. The findings emphasise the capability of trehalose to stabilise the protein, activating aggregation processes.  相似文献

The standard potentialss E o of M/M+ (M=Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs) electrodes in aqueous urea solutions containing 12, 20, 30 and 37% by weight of urea have been determined at 25°C from emf measurements on the cell M(Hg)/MCl (m), solvent/AgCl–Ag, from the activities of metals in amalgams by use of a similar type of cell in water, and from the values ofs E o of the Ag/AgCl electrode determined earlier. The standard free energies of transfer of MCl, G t o (MCl), from water to the mixed solvents, computed by use of these values and those for the Ag–AgCl electrode, rise sharply from Li+ to Na+ but fall from Na+ to K+ and rather sharply from K+ to Cs+ with a maximum at Na+ in all the solvent compositions. This has been attributed to the superimposition of soft-soft interactions on the electrostatic interactions between the ions and the negative charge centers of the possible hydrogen-bonded solvent complexes in the mixed solvents. Comparison of G t o (i) values for individual ions, obtained by a simultaneous extrapolation procedure, with those in aqueous mixtures of methanol,t-butanol, and dimethyl sulfoxide leads to the conclusion that the solvation of these ions in all these solvents is chiefly dictated by the acid-base type of ion-solvent interactions.  相似文献

Enthalpies of solution of sodium benzoate, potassium benzoate, and potassium halo-substituted benzoates are reported at 298.15°K in water and in nine water-tert-butyl alchol mixtures. Transfer enthalpies from water to the mixed solvent go through a maximum for about 0.055 mole fraction of alcohol. Additivity of ionic contributions in the enthalpies of transfer is verified. Substituent effects on the transfer enthalpies of benzoates are discussed in terms of size of the solutes and cohesion of the solvent mixtures. For Part V, see ref. 1.  相似文献

An accurate estimation of pKa values in methanol-water binary mixtures is very important for several separation techniques such as liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis that use these solvent mixtures. In this study, the pKa values of 11 polyphenolic acids have been determined in methanol-water binary mixtures (10%, 20% and 30% (v/v)) by potentiometry, liquid chromatography (LC) and LC-DAD methodology.The results show a similar trend for the pKa values of all the studied compounds, as they increase with increasing concentration of organic modifier, which allows a linear relationship between pKa values and mole fraction of methanol to be obtained. The pKa values obtained in aqueous medium have been compared with those given in the literature, and also with the values predicted by the SPARC on-line pKa calculator. The data obtained have been used to test the feasibility of an estimation of dissociation constants in a methanol-water medium from the relationship between pKa values and the organic cosolvent fraction in the mixtures.  相似文献

Proposed in this paper is an improved method for removal of tin as the matrix element by volatilization in an anhydrous medium as mixed halides of different composition. Any one of them boils at a lower temperature than SnBr4. This ternary system enhances the eventual recombination of temporarily dissociated species to volatile ones, thus making the process quicker and more efficient. The presence of 2 mg of Pb(II) suffices to prevent Bi(III) from loss due to volatilization.  相似文献

Pseudo-ternary phase diagrams have been constructed for the three-component solvent system (toluene+water+propan-2-ol) containing diblock copolymers of poly(styrene-b-2-vinylpyridine-1-oxide). Microemulsions have been shown to form on the water-rich side of the phase diagram, in the region of the phase boundary without polymer. Dynamic light-scattering experiments have led to droplet size values in the region of 100 nm, with the size depending strongly on the propan-2-ol/water concentration, as well as the amount of solubilised toluene in the core. Viscometry experiments have been carried out to measure polymer aggregation numbers in the microemulsion droplets, and interfacial tension measurements have shown that in the absence of propan-2-ol (effectively a cosurfactant) the limiting value of the oil/water interfacial tension, even an saturation adsorption of the copolymer is 20 mNm–1. However, addition of propan-2-ol reduces the interfacial tension to the very low values generall commensurate with microemulsion formation.  相似文献

Summary Three aspects with respect to the selection of solvents for static coating of capillary columns, i.e. coating speed, occurrence of bumping and solubility of stationary phases are discussed. Hypotheses are proposed in an attempt to explain the observed facts that mixed solvents result in much higher coating speeds than those obtained from pure solvents, that a proper choice of solvents together with a good and uniform deactivitation of the column inner wall is needed to prevent bumping. Stationary phase solubility vs. solvent composition is also briefly discussed.  相似文献

In this study, we evaluated the extractability of three curcuminoids (curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin) from turmeric powder in several solvents using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with the diode-array detection method. These solvents include water, milk (homogenized, 2% reduced fat, low fat, fat free, soy, almond, coconut, and milkadamia), and aqueous ethanols (0%, 4%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, and 100%). Ambient water was able to extract only 0.55 mg/g of curcuminoids, whereas warm water extracted more than four-fold higher amounts (2.42 mg/g). Almond, coconut, and milkadamia milk were able to extract only small amounts of curcuminoids at ambient temperatures (0.01–0.07 mg/g). The extractability of curcuminoids in these milk types did not improve, even in warm conditions (0.08–0.37 mg/g). Whereas dairy and soy milk extracted 6.76–9.75 mg/g of curcuminoids under ambient conditions, their extractability increased significantly in warm conditions by 30–100% higher (11.7–14.9 mg/g). The solubility of curcuminoids also varied remarkably in different proportions of aqueous-alcohol mixtures. With 4% ethanol, only 1.7 mg/g of curcuminoids were extracted, and the amounts improved with the increase in ethanol content up to 50% (32.2 mg/g), while 100% ethanol extracted a similar amount as 50% ethanol (34.2 mg/g). This study suggests that the extractability of curcuminoids from turmeric will be dependent on the type of diets consumed with the turmeric supplements.  相似文献
