On the use of the Galerkin method for 3D numerical modelling of the general circulation: the South Atlantic eperiment

A linear three‐dimensional hydrodynamical numerical model, with the application of the Galerkin Method for the vertical dependence, is here presented. The spherical coordinate system is used, in order to allow large‐scale simulations. The equations and mathematical development of the model are shown in detail, together with the boundary and initial conditions, and the sequence of equations' solution. The model is applied to the South Atlantic Ocean, for estimating typical seasonal circulations, and the results are summarized in maps of currents at surface and 1000 m depth, and in transport values of the Brazil Current between 30°S and 40°S. On the Exceptional Zeros of Rankin–Selberg L-Functions

The main objects of study in this article are two classes of Rankin–Selberg L-functions, namely L(s,f×g) and L(s, sym²(g)× sym²(g)), where f,g are newforms, holomorphic or of Maass type, on the upper half plane, and sym²(g) denotes the symmetric square lift of g to GL(3). We prove that in general, i.e., when these L-functions are not divisible by L-functions of quadratic characters (such divisibility happening rarely), they do not admit any LandauSiegel zeros. Such zeros, which are real and close to s=1, are highly mysterious and are not expected to occur. There are corollaries of our result, one of them being a strong lower bound for special value at s=1, which is of interest both geometrically and analytically. One also gets this way a good bound onthe norm of sym²(g).     

Thermoanalytical methods in pharmaceutical technology

A short survey is given of some aspects of the application of thermoanalytical methods, especially differential thermal analysis (DTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG), in solid-dosage technology. The usefulness of these methods in the prediction of drug-excipient compatibility, studies of solid-dispersion systems, the analysis of enantiomers and racemates, measurement of the time of tablet disintegration, the analysis of drug formulations and studies of the processes of grinding and drying of drugs is discussed.

Zusammenfassung Es wird ein kurzer Überblick über einige Aspekte der Anwendung von thermoanalytischen Methoden, insbesondere von DTA, DSC und TG in der Feststoffdosierung gegeben. Weiterhin wird die Nützlichkeit dieser Methoden bei der Voraussage der Bindemittelverträglichkeit, bei der Untersuchung disperser Feststoffsysteme, bei der Analyse von Enantiomeren und Racematen, bei der Messung der Tablettenzerfallszeit, bei der Analyse der Arzneimittelformierung und bei der Untersuchung von Mahl- und Trocknungsprozessen bei Arzneimitteln diskutiert.

     

Convergence of Riemannian Manifolds and Laplace Operators, II

We study spectral convergence of compact Riemannian manifolds or more generally certain Dirichlet spaces, obtaining some compactness results on harmonic functions and harmonic maps. Numerical simulation of critical dependences for symmetric two-layered Josephson junctions

Partial critical dependences of the form current-magnetic field in a two-layered symmetric Josephson junction are modeled. A numerical experiment shows that, for the zero interaction coefficient between the layers of the junction, jumps of the critical currents corresponding to different distributions of the magnetic fluxes in the layers may appear on the critical curves. This fact allows a mathematical interpretation of the results of some recent experimental results for two-layered junctions as a consequence of discontinuities of partial critical curves.

SPS法研究ZnTPP对TiO_2的光谱敏化

本文利用表面光电压谱(Surface Photovohage spectroscopy,简称SPS)研究了ZnTPP对TiO_2粉末的光谱敏化,发现用ZnTPP修饰后的TiO_2(金红石和锐钛矿)粉末在可见区420、550和590nm附近有三个光伏响应带,它们分别对应于ZnTPP的Soret、Q(1,0)和Q(0,0)带。经过严格的实验和分析,证明这三个带是由ZnTPP对TiO_2的敏化光电压引起的,而不是ZnTPP自身的光伏响应。在敏化效果上,亚稳的锐钛矿优于金红石。同时,我们对这种光敏表面的光诱导电荷转移机制和SPS作为一种研究光谱敏化方法的可行性进行了讨论。     

Conformations, Energy and Spectral Characteristics of 2,3-Trimethylene- and 2,3-Pentamethylene-3,4-dihydro-4-quinazolinones

Quantum-chemical calculations and IR spectroscopy were used to study the conformations as well as the energy and spectral characteristics of 2,3-trimethylene- and 2,3-pentamethylene-3,4-dihydro-4-quinazolinones. The shift of -electron density from the heterocyclic system to the carbonyl group and, thus, the proton affinity of the oxygen atom of this group increase with expansion of the bond angle at the nitrogen atom in going from a five-membered to seven-membered ring.
