A Moore space with a -base which cannot be densely embedded in any Moore space with the Baire property

The author answers a question raised in the literature about twenty five years ago and raised again more recently in Open Problems in Topology, by G. M. Reed, concerning the conjecture that every Moore space with a -discrete -base can be densely embedded in a Moore space having the Baire property. Even though closely related results have made this conjecture seem likely to be true, the author shows that, surprisingly, the conjecture is false.

     

Sharp Spectral Asymptotics and Weyl Formula for Elliptic Operators with Non-smooth Coefficients

The aim of this paper is to give the Weyl formula for eigenvalues of self-adjoint elliptic operators, assuming that first-order derivatives of the coefficients are Lipschitz continuous. The approach is based on the asymptotic formula of Hörmander"s type for the spectral function of pseudodifferential operators having Lipschitz continuous Hamiltonian flow and obtained via a regularization procedure of nonsmooth coefficients.

Single and Multi-Interval Legendre τ-Methods in Time for Parabolic Equations

In this paper, we take the parabolic equation with periodic boundary conditions as a model to present a spectral method with the Fourier approximation in spatial and single/multi-interval Legendre Petrov–Galerkin method in time. For the single interval spectral method in time, we obtain the optimal error estimate in L ²-norm. For the multi-interval spectral method in time, the L ²-optimal error estimate is valid in spatial. Numerical results show the efficiency of the methods.     

Synthesis and characterization of diphenylaminodiphenyl stryl based alternating copolymers

Diphenylaminobiphenylated stryl based alternating copolymers with phenyl or fluorene, which were expected to have a terphenylene vinylene backbone containing an (N,N‐diphenylamino)biphenyl pendant and a phenyl/fluorene/phenylene vinylene backbone containing an (N,N‐diphenylamino)biphenyl pendant, were synthesized by a Suzuki coupling reaction. The obtained copolymers were confirmed with various types of spectroscopy. The alternating copolymers showed good hole‐injection properties because of their low oxidation potential and good solubility and high thermal stability with a high glass‐transition temperature. The alternating copolymers showed blue emissions because of the adjusted conjugation lengths; the maximum wavelength was 460 nm for poly{4,4′‐biphenylene‐α‐[4″‐(N,N′‐diphenylamino)diphenyl]vinylene‐alt‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐2‐methoxybenzene} and 487 nm for poly{4,4′‐biphenylene‐α‐[4″‐(N,N′‐diphenylamino)diphenyl] vinylene‐alt‐9,9‐dihexylfluorene}. The maximum brightness of indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylene dioxythiophene)/polymer/LiF/Al devices with poly{4,4′‐biphenylene‐α‐[4″‐(N,N′‐diphenylamino)diphenyl]vinylene‐alt‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐2‐methoxybenzene} or poly{4,4′‐biphenylene‐α‐[4″‐(N,N′‐diphenylamino)diphenyl]vinylene‐alt‐9,9‐dihexylfluorene} as the emitting layer was 250 or 1000 cd/m², respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. CuO在高压下的状态方程、电学性质与相变

 在活塞－圆筒式高压装置上研究了CuO在4.5 GPa内的p-V关系，给出了它的状态方程、格临爱森参数γ₀、体积模量B₀以及B₀的压力导数B₀'。在金刚石压砧装置上，采用我们建立的电阻、电容测量方法研究了CuO在22 GPa内电阻、电容与压力的关系。实验结果表明，CuO的电阻和电容在一些压力下都发生了突然的变化。这些变化可能与CuO内部的电子结构和晶界处的结构状态变化有关。     

Remote spectrophotometry as applied to determination of the degree of mineralization of peat soils in polesie

Regression relations between the first main component, slope of the SBC curve towards the wavelength axis, and the degree of mineralization of peat soils are established from experimental data. Errors in determination of peat soil productivity are estimated using different spectral indices. For practical use it is recommended to measure the spectral brightness coefficients of peat soils in the 0.50–0.75 μm range. B. I. Pressure effects on 2p5 3p - 2p5 3d transitions in neon

The collisional broadening and shift of four spectral lines of neon (747.2, 748.8, 753.5, 754.4 nm) arising from 2p⁵ 3p - 2p⁵ 3d transitions, emitted from a low-pressure glow discharge in pure neon and neon-helium mixtures have been measured using a Fabry-Perot interferometer. The values of pressure broadening and shift coefficients are determined and analyzed in terms of the impact theory.
