In this paper, we study darning of general symmetric Markov processes by shorting some parts of the state space into singletons. A natural way to construct such processes is via Dirichlet forms restricted to the function spaces whose members take constant values on these collapsing parts. They include as a special case Brownian motion with darning, which has been studied in details in Chen (2012), Chen and Fukushima (2012) and Chen et al. (2016). When the initial processes have discontinuous sample paths, the processes constructed in this paper are the genuine extensions of those studied in Chen and Fukushima (2012). We further show that, up to a time change, these Markov processes with darning can be approximated in the sense of finite-dimensional distributions by introducing additional jumps with large intensity among these compact sets to be collapsed into singletons. For diffusion processes, it is also possible to get, up to a time change, diffusions with darning by increasing the conductance on these compact sets to infinity. To accomplish these, we give a version of the semigroup characterization of Mosco convergence to closed symmetric forms whose domain of definition may not be dense in the L2-space. The latter is of independent interest and potentially useful to study convergence of Markov processes having different state spaces. Indeed, we show in Section 5 of this paper that Brownian motion in a plane with a very thin flag pole can be approximated by Brownian motion in the plane with a vertical cylinder whose horizontal motion on the cylinder is a circular Brownian motion moving at fast speed.  相似文献

Concentration bounds for the probabilities P(NM+r) and P(NM?r) are proved, where M is a median or the expectation of a subgraph count N associated with a random geometric graph built over a Poisson process. The lower tail bounds have a Gaussian decay and the upper tail inequalities satisfy an optimality condition. A remarkable feature is that the underlying Poisson process can have a.s. infinitely many points.The estimates for subgraph counts follow from tail inequalities for more general local Poisson U-statistics. These bounds are proved using recent general concentration results for Poisson U-statistics and techniques involving the convex distance for Poisson processes.  相似文献

We prove a Harnack inequality for nonnegative strong solutions to degenerate and singular elliptic PDEs modeled after certain convex functions and in the presence of unbounded drifts. Our main theorem extends the Harnack inequality for the linearized Monge–Ampère equation due to Caffarelli and Gutiérrez and it is related, although under different hypotheses, to a recent work by N.Q. Le.Since our results are shown to apply to the convex functions |x|p with p2 and their tensor sums, the degenerate elliptic operators that we can consider include subelliptic Grushin and Grushin-like operators as well as a recent example by A. Montanari of a nondivergence-form subelliptic operator arising from the geometric theory of several complex variables. In the light of these applications, it follows that the Monge–Ampère quasi-metric structure can be regarded as an alternative to the usual Carnot–Carathéodory metric in the study of certain subelliptic PDEs.  相似文献

We study the existence and uniqueness of a solution to a linear stationary convection–diffusion equation stated in an infinite cylinder, Neumann boundary condition being imposed on the boundary. We assume that the cylinder is a junction of two semi-infinite cylinders with two different periodic regimes. Depending on the direction of the effective convection in the two semi-infinite cylinders, we either get a unique solution, or one-parameter family of solutions, or even non-existence in the general case. In the latter case we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution.  相似文献

We show that breather solutions of the Gardner equation, a natural generalization of the KdV and mKdV equations, are H2(R) stable. Through a variational approach, we characterize Gardner breathers as minimizers of a new Lyapunov functional and we study the associated spectral problem, through (i) the analysis of the spectrum of explicit linear systems (spectral stability), and (ii) controlling degenerated directions by using low regularity conservation laws.  相似文献

We prove an optimal pointwise gradient estimate for such a measure data problem via Riesz potentials of the measure under log-Dini continuity assumption on the modulating coefficients. We devise a monotonicity-type formula of scaled energy and establish a criterion for a uniform regularity estimate for regular p-harmonic map heat flows. An explicit solution of the spectral problem of the non-local Schrödinger operator obtained as the sum of the square root of the Laplacian and a quartic potential in one dimension is presented. The eigenvalues are obtained as zeroes of special functions related to the fourth order Airy function, and closed formulae for the Fourier transform of the eigenfunctions are derived. These representations allow to derive further spectral properties such as estimates of spectral gaps, heat trace and the asymptotic distribution of eigenvalues, as well as a detailed analysis of the eigenfunctions. A subtle spectral effect is observed which manifests in an exponentially tight approximation of the spectrum by the zeroes of the dominating term in the Fourier representation of the eigenfunctions and its derivative.  相似文献

In this paper we study a key example of a Hermitian symmetric space and a natural associated double flag variety, namely for the real symplectic group G and the symmetric subgroup L, the Levi part of the Siegel parabolic PS. We give a detailed treatment of the case of the maximal parabolic subgroups Q of L corresponding to Grassmannians and the product variety of G/PS and L/Q; in particular we classify the L-orbits here, and find natural explicit integral transforms between degenerate principal series of L and G.  相似文献
