Abstract A non-destructive test method of a small defect (a dust particle or an air bubble) in a strongly confined planar waveguide is demonstrated in this work. Based on strong resonances between the small defect and some special incident wavelengths, an accurate reconstruction of the defect parameters can quickly be obtained from our previous numerical method. Reflections from geometric discontinuities can be used with ultrasonic energy to predict the temperature of an interface where classical temperature measurement techniques are impractical because of physical access limitations or harsh environmental conditions. Additionally, these same ultrasonic measurements can be used with inversion methods commonly applied to ill-posed heat transfer problems to increase the accuracy of the measurement of surface temperature or heat flux at the surface of interest. Both methods for determining surface temperature are presented, along with a comparison of results both from a verification example and using data gathered in a field test of the methods. The Bayesian model are established for the VaR and related risk measurements. The relationship between VaR and other risk measurements including expect shortfall, tail condition expectation and conditional value at risk are discussed. Furthermore, the Bayesian estimates and Bayesian predictors of these risk measurement are derived. Thirdly, the consistency and asymptotic normality in the exponential risk model are proved. The application of electrochemical sensors for measurement of concentration of pollutant gases in air in the part-per-billion (109) range is reviewed. Performance-limiting factors, particularly the effects of extremes and of relatively rapid changes in ambient temperature and humidity, are noted. Variations in composition of the electrolyte in the meniscus at the electrode–gas interface and instability of the solid–liquid–gas contact line, causing important variations in current due to background electrode reactions, are deduced and suggested as the reason for the performance limitations. In magneto-Archimedes levitation, a polymer can be levitated to a balanced position, and its levitation height is mainly related to the density of the polymer. Here, a novel method for measuring the density of polymers based on magneto- Archimedes levitation is proposed. For a designed measurement device, an equation can be fitted by a series of experiments with standard density glass beads. Then, the polymer's density can be calculated via the equation. In this paper, a device with magnets at a distance of 60 mm was chosen as an example. Experimental results showed that the proposed method could measure all types of polymer with an accuracy of 0.002–0.01 g/cm3. Moreover, the proposed method can clearly distinguish between polymers with small density differences (<0.03 g/cm3). Because of its high accuracy, high sensitivity, low cost and convenience, the proposed method could be widely used in polymer testing, especially in density-based testing. 相似文献

A monocular method to measure the pose of a translation-only one-dimensional (1D) object containing at least two known characteristic points is presented. The position of any other point on the 1D object can be located after the pose measurement. Scene information is not needed to apply the method. If the distance between the characteristic points is unknown, there is a scale factor between the object's real positions and the measurement results. The adsorption of particles to air–aqueous interfaces is vital in many applications, such as mineral flotation and the stabilization of food foams. The forces in the system determine whether a particle will attach to an air–aqueous interface. The forces between a particle and an air–aqueous interface are influenced by Derjaguin–Landau–Verwey–Overbeek forces (i.e. van der Waals and electrostatic forces), non–Derjaguin–Landau–Verwey–Overbeek forces (e.g. hydrophobic, hydrodynamic, structural, and capillary forces), liquid drainage, and liquid flow. As an air–aqueous interface can be deformed by a particle, the forces measured between an air–aqueous interface and a particle can differ from those measured between two hard surfaces separated by liquid. This paper presents an evaluation method for measuring the sound pressure level and mode shapes of tire cavity resonance by using a multi-microphone system. Two commercial tires were evaluated to compare abilities of noise suppression by means of this method in the range of the first resonance from 200 to 260 Hz. One tire was a special tire that suppresses tire cavity resonance with polyurethane foam mounted on the tire’s inner liner. The other tire was a normal tire with no polyurethane foam. An inflatable cuff wrapped around the upper arm is widely used in noninvasive blood pressure measurement. However, the mechanical interaction between cuff and arm tissues, a factor that potentially affects the accuracy of noninvasive blood pressure measurement, remains rarely addressed. In the present study, finite element (FE) mod-els were constructed to quantify intra-arm stresses generated by cuff compression, aiming to provide some theoretical evi-dence for identifying factors of importance for blood pressure measurement or explaining clinical observations. Obtained results showed that the simulated tissue stresses were highly sensitive to the distribution of cuff pressure on the arm sur-face and the contact condition between muscle and bone. In contrast, the magnitude of cuff pressure and small variations in elastic properties of arm soft tissues had little influence on the efficiency of pressure transmission in arm tissues. In par-ticular, it was found that a thickened subcutaneous fat layer in obese subjects significantly reduced the effective pres-sure transmitted to the brachial artery, which may explain why blood pressure overestimation occurs more frequently in obese subjects in noninvasive blood pressure measurement. 相似文献
