COMPENSATION EFFECT OF POLYIMIDE THIN FILMS ON NORMALLY WHITE TWISTED NEMATIC LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAYS

The disadvantages of Normally White Twisted Nematic Liquid Crystal Display (NW-TN-LCD) were discussed. The reason that the negative birefringent polyimide thin filmswere used to compensate NW-TN-LCD to decrease off-axis leakage, improve contrast ratiosand enlarge viewing angles was explained in this paper. A certain polyimide thin film wastaken as an example to show compensation effect on NW-TN-LCD.

介绍近年来卤代化合物在光照射下的偶联反应、醇解反应、消去反应、开环反 应，尤其是卤代杂环化合物的光化学反应，得到了许多用热反应或催化反应无法替 代的具有生物(理)活性的中间体．     

双折射光纤中克尔效应及光纤－光学逻辑门

本文详细地研究了单模双折射光纤中的克尔效应．讨论了其应用于光纤－光学逻辑门的优点,给出了有关的理论分析和计算结果以实验装置,确定了强度型逻辑门的“１／０”状态,测出了输出光脉冲宽度．理论分析和实验结果符合良好．     

Relaxational behavior of birefringence of aqueous carboxymethylcellulose under an alternating electric field at frequencies ranging from 0.1 Hz to 100 kHz

The d. c. component of birefringence of aqueous carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) under an a. c. electric field was measured at frequencies ranging from 0.1 Hz to 100 kHz. Three samples of different molecular weights were studied with varying degree of neutralization, polymer concentration and added salt concentration. The dispersion curve of birefringence consists of three relaxation bands,A, B andC in order of decreasing frequency. RelaxationB with a negative relaxation strength is ascribed to end-over-end rotation of almost rodlike CMC molecules. RelaxationA with a positive strength is attributed to the relaxation of electrical polarizability along the minor axis of molecule. RelaxationC possesses also a positive strength and is induced by clusters of CMC molecules.Dedicated to Prof. Dr. F. H. Müller.

Studies on the thermotropic liquid crystalline polycarbonates. III. Synthesis and properties of fully aromatic liquid crystalline polycarbonates

Four series of fully aromatic thermotropic liquid crystalline polycarbonates were prepared by melt polycondensation from various novel phenylene diphenyl dicarbonates with monomers, such as hydroquinone, methylhydroquinone, chlorohydroquinone, resorcinol, bisphenol A, 4,4′-dihydroxydiphenylsulfone, or phenylhydroquinone, respectively. The thermotropic liquid crystalline properties were studied by polarizing microscope with a heating stage, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and wide-angle x-ray diffraction (WAXD). It was found that the nonlinearity of the carbonate group was compensated by resorcinol (1,3-phenylene unit), a bent shape unit. Nematic melts were found for the resulting polycarbonates. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Photoinduced Electron Transfer between CdS and CdTe Nanoparticles in Colloidal Solutions

The photochemical behavior of solutions containing a mixture of CdS and CdTe nanoparticles under pulsed irradiation conditions was investigated. It was shown that electron transfer from the CdS particles to the CdTe nanoparticles occurs during the photoexcitation of such systems. The effectiveness of the process is increased with increase in the size of the CdTe nanoparticles. Such behavior is due to decrease in the potential of the CdTe conduction band with increase in the size of the nanoparticles as a result of the appearance of quantum-dimensional effects.     

Ionic-conductivity switching of vinyl malachite green leuconitrile copolymers based on photoinduced carrier generation

Copolymers of bis[4-(N,N-dimethylamino)phenyl]-4-vinylphenylmethanenitrile (vinyl Malachite Green leuconitrile) with methyl methacrylate or ω-methoxyoligo(oxyethylene) methacrylate have been synthesized, aiming at designing one-component-type organic polymers for photoswitchable ion-conducting films. The triphenylmethanenitrile copolymers with ω-methoxyoligo(oxyethylene) methacrylate were found to undergo ionic-conductivity switching by turning on and off UV light at ambient temperature, owing to their low glass transition temperature. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
