Two types of structurally well-defined, self-assembled zinc porphyrin-fullerene conjugates were formed by "two-point" binding strategies to probe the effect of axial ligation or pi-pi-type interactions on the photochemical charge stabilization in the supramolecular dyads. To achieve this, meso-tetraphenylporphyrin was functionalized to possess one or four [18]crown-6 moieties at different locations on the porphyrin macrocycle while fullerene was functionalized to possess an alkyl ammonium cation, and a pyridine or phenyl entities. As a result of the crown ether-ammonium cation complexation, and zinc-pyridine coordination or pi-pi-type interactions, stable zinc porphyrin-fullerene conjugates with defined distance and orientation were formed. Evidence for the zinc-pyridine complexation or pi-pi-type interactions was obtained from the spectral and computational studies. Steady-state and time-resolved emission studies revealed efficient quenching of the zinc-porphyrin singlet excited state in these dyads, and the measured rates of charge separation, k(CS) were found to be slightly better in the case of the dyads held by axial coordination and crown ether-cation complexation. Nanosecond transient absorption studies provided evidence for the electron transfer reactions, and these studies also revealed charge stabilization in these dyads. The lifetimes of the radical ion pairs were found to depend upon the type of porphyrins utilized to form the dyads, that is, porphyrin possessing the crown ether moiety at the ortho position of one of the phenyl rings yielded prolonged charge stabilized states. Addition of pyridine to the supramolecular dyads eliminated the zinc-pyridine coordination or pi-pi-type interactions of the "two-point" bound systems due to the formation of a new zinc-pyridine axial bond thus giving a unique opportunity to probe the effect of axial coordination or pi-pi interactions on k(CS) and k(CR). Under these conditions, the measured electron transfer rates revealed faster k(CS) and slower k(CR) as compared to those obtained in the absence of added pyridine. The evaluated lifetimes of the radical ion-pairs were found to be hundreds of nanoseconds and were longer in the presence of pyridine.  相似文献

Stereoanalysis of three fullerene molecules with a chiral molecular framework C32, C76, and C78 and achiral fullerene C60 molecule was carried out. Comparative quantitative analysis of the degree of chirality showed topology to be the major factor governing the chirality of fullerenes. A procedure for determining the relative contribution of topological chirality to the total chirality of the molecule is proposed. Structural fragments responsible for chirality are found. The title fullerenes are assigned to the corresponding subclasses of homochirality. A classification system of isomeric fullerenes is proposed.  相似文献

The molecular and electronic structures of some hypothetical sandwich-type -complexes of transition metals with fullerene C60 were modeled. The M-C60 bonds in 5-C60MCp+ complexes (M = Fe, Ru, Os) are less strong than the M-Cp bonds in ferrocene, ruthenocene, and osmocene, respectively. The 6-C60MC6H6 complexes (M = Cr, Mo, W) should be less stable than their classical analogs (C6H6)M(C6H6). The coordination of a metal atom with the fullerene at its pentagonal face is more energetically favorable than at a hexagonal face.Translated fromIzyestiya Akademii Nauk. The concept of crystalline module, that is, an unambiguously isolated, repeated quasi-molecular element, is introduced. This concept is more general than the concept of crystal lattice. The generalized modular approach allows extension of the methods and principles of crystallography to quasi-crystals, clusters, amorphous solids, and periodic biological structures. Principles of construction of aperiodic, nonequilibrium regular modular structures are formulated. Limitations on the size of icosahedral clusters are due to the presence of spherical shells with non-Euclidean tetrahedral tiling in their structure. A parametric relationship between the structures of icosahedral fullerenes and metal clusters of the Chini series was found.  相似文献

The Cs‐symmetric fullerene chlorohydrin C60(Cl)(OH)(OOtBu)4 reacts with 4‐dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) and 1,4‐diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) to yield two isomers with the formula C60(O)(OOtBu)4 in good yields. These isomers differ with respect to the location of the epoxy functionality. The one from DMAP is Cs symmetric, whereas that from DABCO is C1 symmetric with the epoxy group on the central pentagon. Two different mechanisms are proposed to explain the chemoselectivity of these reactions. The reaction with DMAP involves single‐electron transfer as the key step; DMAP acts as the electron donor. A combination of an oxygen‐atom shift and SN2′′ processes (boomerang substitution) are responsible for the formation of isomer with DACBO. Various related reactions support the proposed mechanisms. The structures of new fullerene derivatives were determined by spectroscopy, single‐crystal X‐ray analysis, and chemical correlation experiments.  相似文献

The addition of the ·But (R1) and ·P(O)(OPri)2 (R2) radicals to pyrrolidino[60]fullerenes C60CH2NMeCHX (X = C6H4N(CH2CH2Cl)2, 2,6-(But)2C6H2OH, PhC6H4, and indol-3-yl) was studied by ESR spectroscopy. The rate constants of R1 radical addition to these compounds and dimerization of spin-adducts of the R1 radicals with pyrrolidino[60]fullerenes were determined. Pyrrolidino[60]fullerenes manifest considerably higher reactivity toward the R1 radicals than fullerene C60 and methanofullerenes C60CX1X2 (X1 = X2 = CO2Et; X1 = CO2Me, X2 = OP(OMe)2, X1 = X2 = OP(OEt)2).  相似文献

Two classes of fullerene‐based donor–bridge–acceptor (D–B–A) systems containing donors of varying oxidation potentials have been synthesized. These systems include fullerenes linked to heteroaromatic donor groups (phenothiazine/phenoxazine) as well as substituted anilines (p‐anisidine/p‐toluidine). In contrast to the model compound, an efficient intramolecular electron transfer is observed from the fullerene singlet excited state in polar solvents. An increase in the rate constant and quantum yield of charge separation (kcs and Φcs) has been observed for both classes of dyads, with decrease in the oxidation potentials of the donor groups. This observation indicates that the rates of the forward electron transfer fall in the normal region of the Marcus curve. The long‐lived charge separation enabled the characterization of electron transfer products, namely, the radical cation of the donor and radical anion of the pyrrolidinofullerene, by using nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. The small reorganization energy (λ) of C60 coupled with large negative free energy changes (‐ΔG°) for the back electron transfer places the back electron process in the inverted region of Marcus curve, thereby stabilizing the electron transfer products.  相似文献

Hybrid B3LYP and density-functional-based tight-binding (DFTB) computations on the solid-state structures and electronic properties of the C(20) fullerene monomer and oligomers are reported. C(20) cages with C(2), C(2h), C(i), D(3d), and D(2h) symmetries have similar energies and geometries. Release of the very high C(20) strain is, in theory, responsible for the ready oligomerization and the formation of different solid phases. Open [2+2] bonding is preferred both in the oligomers and in the infinite one-dimensional solids; the latter may exhibit metallic character. Two types of three-dimensional solids, the open [2+2] simple cubic and the body-centered cubic (bcc) forms, are proposed. The energy of the latter is lower due to the better oligomer bonding. The open [2+2] simple cubic solid should be a conductor, whereas the bcc solids are insulators. The most stable three-dimensional solid-state structure, an anisotropically compressed form of the bcc solid, has a HOMO-LUMO gap of approximately 2 eV and a larger binding energy than that of the proposed C(36) solid.  相似文献

Separation of C60 and C70 fullerenes by HPLC was studied using sorbents synthesized by reaction of perylenedicarboxylic anhydride, dimethoxyviolanthrene, the tetramer of chromotropic acid with formaldehyde (TCA), trinitrobenzoyl chloride, or chlorotrinitrobenzene with γ-aminopropyl silica. These sorbents possess satisfactory chromatographic properties. The sorbent based on TCA is effective for separation of preparative amounts of fullerenes. Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk.
