Selective Oxidation of Betulin by Cr(VI) Reagents

Oxidation of betulin by pyridinium dichromate, pyridinium chlorochromate, and K₂Cr₂O₇ -H₂SO₄ in the presence of tetrabutylammonium bromide was studied. Products of regioselective C-3, C-28-, and exhaustive oxidation, 28-hydroxylup-20(29)-3-one, 3-hydroxy- and 3-oxolup-20(29)-en-28-al were obtained.     

The role of the π-bonding network for trigonal level splittings of tris-bidentate Cr(acac)3 and Cr(ox) 3 3−

The varying -bonding contributions in the title compounds caused by the different electronic and molecular structure of the chelate rings are used for explaining the large band splittings in the absorption spectra by trigonal symmetry. It is shown that usual ligand field theory and the angular overlap model are not able to account for the trigonal level splitting of Cr(acac)₃ for which the coordination sphere of oxygen atoms is nearly octahedrally arranged. The experimental finding can, however, be rationalized by an extended angular overlap model which considers the phase coupling of -orbitals in the ligands leading to non-additive contributions to the metal-ligand bond energy.On leave of absence from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, Bulgaria

Cyanobenzaldehydes (m-,o-,p-) were synthesized by oxidation of corresponding tolunitriles with molecular oxygen,catalyzed by cobalt acetate and sodium bromide.     

A new method for the synthesis of CF3-containing aminovinyl ketones

A new method for the synthesis of aminovinyl trifluoromethyl ketones was developed. The method is based on the reactions of 4-sulfonyl-1,1,1-trifluorobut-3-ene-2,2-diols with various alkyl-, aryl-, dialkyl-, and alkylarylamines. The stereochemistry of the compounds obtained was studied.     

人工神经网络X射线荧光光谱法测定钢中酸溶铝

建立了一种人工神经网络-X射线荧光光谱法测定钢中酸溶铝的方法，用X射线荧光光谱法测定低合金钢中总铝值，应用所建立的ANN-BP网络模型，输入总铝含量直接预测出酸溶铝含量。同时使用改进的BP算法，避免了神经网络学习中可能产生的麻痹现象。该方法用于钢中酸溶铝的测定，结果满意。

A new synthetic route for the preparation of the betain-like compound (CH₃N)₆P₄F₈ from (CH₃NPF₃)₂,N-methyl-hexamethyldisilazane andN,N-dimethyl-urea has been found. The steps of this multi-stage reaction could be rationalized to a far extent.

Tautomerism and Acidic Properties of N‐Unsubstituted Benzohydroxamic Acids: Semiempirical Quantum Chemical Estimation

Tautomerism of Nunsubstituted benzohydroxamic acids and their anions in the gas phase was investigated by the semiempirical AM1 method. The possibility of estimating pK _a in aqueous solutions using calculated characteristics of molecules is demonstrated.     

Transients of the Open-Circuit Potential Observed during the Interaction of Formic Acid with Preliminarily Adsorbed Oxygen on a Platinized Platinum Electrode

Transients of the open-circuit potential, which are observed during the interaction of formic acid with preliminarily adsorbed oxygen (O_ads) on a Pt/Pt electrode in 0.5 M H₂SO₄, are measured. It is established, by means of the method of cathodic potentiodynamic pulses, that the slowest interaction of formic acid with O_ads occurs in the region of large coverages of the electrode surface by oxygen (θ_O ∼1–0.8). A presumption is put forward that the process rate in this region is defined by a direct reaction of O_ads with molecules of formic acid from the bulk solution. It is shown that the interaction of formic acid with O_ads in the region of intermediate coverages (θ_O ∼ 0.8–0.2) proceeds via a mechanism of “conjugated reactions.” Transients of the open-circuit potential for formic acid are compared to transients for carbon monoxide obtained in analogous conditions. The substantially shorter overall time of potential decay in the case of CO (at the same concentrations) is caused by a faster reaction of CO with adsorbed oxygen in the region of large θ_O. 有机溶剂性质及其水含量对酶催化合成保护的寡肽及其衍生物有显著影响。系 统地研究了有机溶剂性质及在不同有机溶剂中水含量对α－胰凝乳蛋白酶催化合成 含D－氨基酸残基的二肽衍生物产率的影响。用α－胰凝乳蛋白酶、枯草杆菌蛋白 酶和嗜热杆菌蛋白酶在有机溶剂中催化合成了一系列保护的二肽及其衍生物，并研 究了水含量对反应产率的影响，得到了十分有意义的结果。     

Thermostability of landscape phage probes

Immunoassays have traditionally relied on antibodies as diagnostic probes. Their use outside of a laboratory, however, may be problematic because antibodies are often unstable in severe environmental conditions. Environmental monitoring requires thermostable probes, such as landscape phage, that carry thousands of foreign peptides on their surfaces, are superior to antibodies, and can operate in non-controlled conditions. While parent wild-type phage are known to be extremely stable in various media at high temperatures, no work has been done to demonstrate the stability of landscape phage probes. We examined the thermostability of a landscape phage probe and a monoclonal antibody specific for -galactosidase in parallel in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) format. They were both stable for greater than six months at room temperature, but at higher temperatures the antibody degraded more rapidly than the phage probe. Phage retained detectable binding ability for more than six weeks at 63 °C, and three days at 76 °C. The activation energy of phage degradation was determined to be 1.34×10⁵ J/mol. These results confirm that phage probes are highly thermostable and can function even after exposure to high temperatures during shipping, storage and operation.
