We have investigated infrared-to-visible upconversion luminescence of Er^3+ in bismuth-lead-germanate glasses. The UV cutoff wavelength is shortened while its lifetime is increased almost linearly, with PbF2 substituting for PbO in the bismuth-lead germanate glasses. Three emissions centred at around 529, 545 and 657 nm are clearly observed, which are identified as originating from the ^2H11/2→^4 I15/2,^4S3/2→^4 I15/2 and ^4 F9/2 →^4 I15/2 transitions, respectively. It is noted that all the upconversion emission intensities increase with PbF2 concentration increasing. The ratio between the intensities of red and green emissions increases with the increasing of PbF2 content. Energy transfer processes and nonradiative phonon-assisted decays account for the populations of the ^2 H11/2,^4 S3/2 and ^4F 9/2 levels. The quadratic dependence of fluorescence on excitation laser power confirms a two-photon process to contribute to the upconversion emissions.  相似文献

Global optimization is one of the key challenges in computational physics as several problems, e.g. protein structure prediction, the low-energy landscape of atomic clusters, detection of community structures in networks, or model-parameter fitting can be formulated as global optimization problems. Extremal optimization (EO) has become in recent years one particular, successful approach to the global optimization problem. As with almost all other global optimization approaches, EO is driven by an internal dynamics that depends crucially on one or more parameters. Recently, the existence of an optimal scheme for this internal parameter of EO was proven, so as to maximize the performance of the algorithm. However, this proof was not constructive, that is, one cannot use it to deduce the optimal parameter itself a priori. In this study we analyze the dynamics of EO for a test problem (spin glasses). Based on the results we propose an online measure of the performance of EO and a way to use this insight to reformulate the EO algorithm in order to construct optimal values of the internal parameter online without any input by the user. This approach will ultimately allow us to make EO parameter free and thus its application in general global optimization problems much more efficient.  相似文献

BaO-P2O5 glasses mixed with the three metal oxides viz., Al2O3, Ga2O3 and In2O3 doped with Tb2O3 were prepared. The glasses were characterized by X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis. Optical absorption and photoluminescence spectra and thermoluminescence (TL) of these glasses have been studied. From the measured intensities of various absorption bands of these glasses, the Judd-Ofelt parameters Ω2, Ω4 and Ω6 have been evaluated and compared with those of other reported glass systems. The Judd-Ofelt theory could successfully be applied to characterize the absorption and luminescence spectra of these glasses. From this theory various radiative properties like transition probability A, branching ratio βr, the radiative lifetime τr and the emission cross-section σE for various emission levels of these glasses have been determined and reported. An attempt has also been made to throw some light on the relationship between the structural modifications and luminescence efficiencies of all the three glasses. The analysis of TL data indicate high non-radiative losses in In2O3 mixed glasses.  相似文献

Windows for infrared sensors on missiles, aircraft and high energy laser systems must be of excellent spectral properties, high optical quality, large and durable enough to protect delicate sensors from harsh operating conditions. This paper describes work being done for IR window applications on heavy metal oxyfluoride (HMOF) glasses, which provide a combination of infrared transparency, strength, hardness, and environmental stability in a largely-sized formable material, and represents potential candidate materials for infrared windows.  相似文献

It will provide us an effective method to study the color perception of the elderly if we can employ for young subjects a pair of glasses with color property chosen to simulate that of the elderly. One problem has to be solved before using such glasses based on the concept of the recognized visual space of illumination, that is, the size of the glasses. When a piece of a white paper is seen through a yellow filter in a room, it naturally appears yellowish. But if the observer uses the filter to cover his/her eyes entirely the white paper returns to its original white; this is known as color constancy. Between these two extreme cases, the color is expected to change from yellow to white. Chromaticness and hue of an achromatic test chart of a small or large size were determined by the elementary color naming method when the chart was seen monocularly through a red, yellow, green or blue filter, respectively, placed at various distances from the eyes. Chromaticness was large at around 40% when the visual field through the filter was equal to or smaller than the test chart, but it rapidly decreased when the visual field extended over the test chart so that objects other than the test chart were included in the visual field. It decreased to almost zero when the filter was about 5 cm or less away from the eye. It was concluded that we do not necessarily have to use goggles to cover the entire visual field but can use a normal pair of glasses made of colored filters for young subjects to study the color perception of the elderly with understanding that the study is only for the color perception experienced while wearing the glasses.  相似文献

Magnetic susceptibility studies of lead oxyhalide glasses containing high concentrations of transition metal oxides such as MnO and Fe2O3 have been performed. While they exhibit predominantly antiferromagnetic interactions, the low temperature (<100K) region is dominated by paramagnetic contributions. The behaviour in these glasses is found to be similar to that of covalent oxide glasses and is different from that of purely ionic sulphate glasses. Inner pore channels were commonly found in precursor-derived Si–C–N ceramics. After annealing in air at 1420 °C, their oxidation structures were investigated by analytical TEM. A carbon-rich ring was frequently observed under the silica layer inside the pore channels, which consisted of graphite-like clusters in size of 20–30 nm. Origin of such interfacial structure is due to the excessive free-carbon in the amorphous Si–C–N matrix that had survived the oxidation process. This graphitic interface could further improve the oxidation resistance of the SiO2 over-layer. This novel interfacial structure was also found by annealing in N2, reaffirming the effect of composition of Si–C–N matrix.  相似文献

The linear and non-linear susceptibilities of the two sub-lattices Random Energy Model (REM) allowing antiferromagnetic order is studied as a function of the external field (h) and temperature (T). Due to the competition between external field and the internal exchange field acting on the spins there is a drastic change of the system's behavior as the parameters (h,T) are varied. The behavior of the susceptibilities in low and high fields is very different in that the latter may grow as the temperature decreases. Molecular dynamics simulation is performed to simulate the tension–compression fatigue of notched metallic glasses(MGs), and the notch effect of MGs is explored. The notches will accelerate the accumulation of shear transition zones, leading to faster shear banding around the notches' root causing it to undergo severe plastic deformation. Furthermore, a qualitative investigation of the notched MGs demonstrates that fatigue life gradually becomes shorter with the increase in sharpness until it reaches a critical scale. The fatigue performance of blunt notches is stronger than that of sharp notches. Making the notches blunter can improve the fatigue life of MGs.  相似文献
