Synthesis and properties of segmented aromatic poly(ether sulfone)-amide and poly(ether sulfone)-imide copolymers

New segmented aromatic poly(ether sulfone)-amide and poly(ether sulfone)-imide copolymers were synthesized by the chain extension of α,w-diamine-terminated poly(ether sulfone) oligomer with both aromatic dicarboxylic acid chlorides and tetracarboxylic dianhydrides, respectively. Crystallization of the poly(ether sulfone)unit was suppressed by the introduction of amide or imide linkage along the polymer backbone, giving amorphous copolymers that were +eadily soluble in various organic solvents. The copolymers had somewhat higher glass transition temperatures than the parent poly(ether sulfone). They afforded transparent and tough films by solution casting. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

NETWORK CROWN ETHER POLYMERS WITH CENTRIC FUNCTIONAL GROUP (Ⅳ) SYNTHESIS OF NETWORK CROWN ETHER POLYMER WITH PENDANT DIETHYLAMINO THIAALKYL GROUP AND ITS PLATINUM COMPLEX*

The title polymer was prepared from 5-diethylamino-3-thia-pentyl glycidyl ether anddiethylene glycol bisglycidyl ether via ring-opening copolymerization. It was found that thisreaction could be catalyzed by sodium, but not Lewis acid. The obtained polymer can coordinatewith platinum compound, and the platinum complex is a new kind of catalyst for thehydrosilylation of olefins with triethoxysilane.     

Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Organosoluble Methyl Substituted Poly(aryl Ether Ketone)s Containing Sulfone Linkage

Several new methyl substituted poly(aryl ether ketone)s containing sulfone linkage with inherent viscosities of 0.62–0.84 dL/g have been prepared from 4,4′‐bis(2‐methylphenoxy)diphenylsulfone and 4,4′‐bis(3‐methylphenoxy)diphenylsulfone with terephthaloyl chloride and isophthaloyl chloride by electrophilic Friedel‐Crafts acylation in the presence of DMF with anhydrous AlCl₃ as a catalyst in 1,2‐dichloroethane, respectively. These polymers having weight‐average molecular weight in the range of 71,000–49,000 are all amorphous and show high glass transition temperatures ranging from 167 °C to 191 °C, excellent thermal stability at temperatures over 400 °C in air or nitrogen, high char yields of 51–58% in nitrogen and good solubility in CHCl₃ and polar solvents such as DMF, DMSO and NMP at room temperature.

Rapid and diverse route to natural product-like biaryl ether containing macrocycles

A two-step sequence involving an Ugi four-component reaction and an intramolecular nucleophilic aromatic substitution (S_NAr) has been developed for the rapid access to biaryl-ether containing macrocycles. In the course of this study, we documented that ammonium chloride can promote the Ugi-4CR in non-polar aprotic solvent (toluene) without the interference of an alternative Passerini reaction. Solid phase synthesis of macrocycles by this two-step sequence was also developed using polymer (Wang resin) supported α-(4′-fluoro-3′-nitro)phenethyl isocyanoacetate as one of the inputs.

Multifunctional coupling agents for living cationic polymerization. IV. Synthesis of end-functionalized multiarmed poly(vinyl ethers) with multifunctional silyl enol ethers

Telechelic ( 8 ) and end-functionalized four-arm star polymers ( 9 ) were synthesized through the coupling reactions of end-functionalized living poly(isobutyl vinyl ether) ( 5; DP _n ～ 10) with the bi-and tetrafunctional silyl enol ethers, H_4-nC? [CH₂OC₆H₄C(OSiMe₃) = CH₂]_n ( 3: n = 2; 4: n = 4). The precursor polymers 5 were prepared by living cationic polymerization with functionalized initiators, CH₃CH(Cl)OCH₂CH₂X(6), in conjunction with zinc chloride in methylene chloride at ?15°C. The initiators 6 were obtained by the addition of hydrogen chloride gas to vinyl ethers bearing pendant functional groups X , including acetoxy [? OC(O)CH₃], styryl (? OCH₂C₆H₄-p-CH = CH₂), and methacryloyl [? OC(O)C(CH₃) = CH₂]. The coupling reactions with 3 and 4 in methylene chloride at ?15°C for 24 h afforded the end-functionalized multiarmed polymers ( 8 and 9 ) in high yield (>91%), where those with styryl or methacryloyl groups are new multifunctional macromonomers. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Enantiomeric resolution of underivatized small peptides by HPLC with a chiral crown ether stationary phase

Factors influencing the stereoisomeric resolution of underivatized dipeptides and a representative tripeptide on Crownpak (CR) columns have been investigated. The elution order and relative retention suggest that a combination of chiral, steric, and hydrophobic interactions effects the extent of chiral recognition and the retention achieved during separations. Some dipeptides whose amine terminus is located three atoms from the asymmetric center (such as dipeptides of D ,L -glycine) were resolved, but the elution order was the opposite of that expected for the type of Crownpak column used (CR(+)). Peptides containing hydrophobic substituents were strongly retained, but their retention times could be significantly reduced, and detectability improved, by use of gradient elution. Analysis of a commercial sample of D ,L -leucine-D ,L -alanine revealed the stereoisomers to be present in an unexpected quantitative ratio and demonstrated the utility of these separations for quality assurance and quantitative analyses.
