New general guidance method in constrained optimal control,part 2: Application to space shuttle guidance

The application and the performance of the neighboring optimal feedback scheme presented in Part 1 of this paper is demonstrated for the heating-constrained cross-range maximization problem of a space-shuttle-orbiter-type vehicle. Lp (?m × ?n) boundedness for the Marcinkiewicz integral on product spaces

L^p(R^m × Rⁿ) boundedness is considered for the multiple Marcinkiewicz integral. Some size conditions implying the L^p(R^m × Rⁿ) boundedness of the multiple Marcinkiewicz integral for some fixed 1 > p > ∞ are obtained.     

Resolution of Some Open Problems Concerning Multiple Zeta Evaluations of Arbitrary Depth

We prove some new evaluations for multiple polylogarithms of arbitrary depth. The simplest of our results is a multiple zeta evaluation one order of complexity beyond the well-known Broadhurst–Zagier formula. Other results we provide settle three of the remaining outstanding conjectures of Borwein, Bradley, and Broadhurst. A complete treatment of a certain arbitrary depth class of periodic alternating unit Euler sums is also given.     

Music as Embodied Mathematics: A Study of a Mutually Informing Affinity

The argument examined in this paper is that music – when approached through making and responding to coherent musical structures,facilitated by multiple, intuitively accessible representations – can become a learning context in which basic mathematical ideas can be elicited and perceived as relevant and important. Students' inquiry into the bases for their perceptions of musical coherence provides a path into the mathematics of ratio,proportion, fractions, and common multiples. Ina similar manner, we conjecture that other topics in mathematics – patterns of change,transformations and invariants – might also expose, illuminate and account for more general organizing structures in music. Drawing on experience with 11–12 year old students working in a software music/math environment, we illustrate the role of multiple representations, multi-media, and the use of multiple sensory modalities in eliciting and developing students' initially implicit knowledge of music and its inherent mathematics. New class of generating functions associated with generalized hypergeometric polynomials

In this paper authors prove a general theorem on generating relations for a certain sequence of functions. Many formulas involving the families of generating functions for generalized hypergeometric polynomials are shown here to be special cases of a general class of generating functions involving generalized hypergeometric polynomials and multiple hypergeometric series of several variables. It is then shown how the main result can be applied to derive a large number of generating functions involving hypergeometric functions of Kampé de Fériet, Srivastava, Srivastava-Daoust, Chaundy, Fasenmyer, Cohen, Pasternack, Khandekar, Rainville and other multiple Gaussian hypergeometric polynomials scattered in the literature of special functions.     

A Generalization of the Hilbert Basis Theorem

A generalization of the Hilbert basis theorem in the geometric setting is proposed. It asserts that, for any well-describable (in a certain sense) family of polynomials, there exists a number C such that if P is an everywhere dense (in a certain sense) subfamily of this family, a is an arbitrary point, and the first C polynomials in any sequence from P vanish at the point a, then all polynomials from P vanish at a.     

Complemented copies of c0 in spaces of operators

We study the existence of complemented copies of c ₀ in certain Banach spaces of bounded linear operators and apply our results to spaces of bounded vector valued measures. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Nonlinear Filtering for Diffusions in Random Environments

Suppose that the signal X to be estimated is a diffusion process in a random medium W and the signal is correlated with the observation noise. We study the historical filtering problem concerned with estimating the signal path up until the current time based upon the back observations. Using Dirichlet form theory, we introduce a filtering model for general rough signal X ^W and establish a multiple Wiener integrals representation for the unnormalized pathspace filtering process. Then, we construct a precise nonlinear filtering model for the process X itself and give the corresponding Wiener chaos decomposition.
