This article describes the thermodynamic stability and phase behaviour of a liquid crystalline material p-n-hexyloxybenzylidene-p-toluidine (6OBT) at a molecular level. The atomic net charge and dipole moment at each atomic centre have been evaluated using the complete neglect differential overlap (CNDO/2) method. The modified Rayleigh–Schrodinger perturbation method along with multicentred-multipole expansion method has been employed to evaluate the long-range intermolecular interactions, while a ‘6-exp’ potential function has been assumed for the short-range interactions. The total interaction energy values obtained through these computations have been used to calculate the probability of each configuration at room temperature (300?K), nematic–isotropic transition temperature (346.9?K) and above transition temperature (400?K) using the Maxwell–Boltzmann formula. Further, the Helmholtz free energy and entropy of each configuration has been computed during the different modes of interactions. An attempt has been made to understand the phase behaviour and stability of the molecule based on thermodynamic parameters introduced in this article.  相似文献

The problem of the thermal stability of a horizontal incompressible fluid layer with linear and nonlinear temperature distributions is solved by using the sequential gradient-restoration algorithm developed for optimal control problems. The hydrodynamic boundary conditions for the layer include a rigid or free upper surface and a rigid lower surface. The resulting disturbing equations are solved as a Bolza problem in the calculus of variations. In this work agro-based waste natural tamarind fibers were extracted from ripened fruit, and alkali treatment and polycarbonate coating were used to improve the properties of the chemically modified fibers. The tensile properties of these chemically modified fibers were found to be improved by polymer coating. Scanning electron micrographs indicated better interfacial bonding between the fiber and matrix. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the thermal stability of the coated fibers was lower than that of polycarbonate but higher than that of uncoated fibers. The moisture absorption of the polycarbonate-coated fibers was lower than that of uncoated fibers.  相似文献

HfO2 has been recently highlighted as the most promising high-k dielectrics for the next-generation CMOS device applications due to its relatively high dielectric constant and superior thermodynamic stability from calculated Gibbs free reaction with Si. However, the high permeability to oxygen, the low crystallization temperature and the formation of the low-k interfacial layer during high temperature processing causes equivalent oxide thickness scaling and reliability concerns. Therefore, novel Hf-based high-k gate dielectrics should be studied to meet the requirements of the future advanced CMOS devices. This article provides a comprehensive view of the state-of-the-art research activities in advanced Hf-based high-k gate dielectrics, including their preparation, characterization, and potential applications in CMOS device. We begin with a survey of the requirements of high-k oxides, and then various methods developed for generating Hf-based high-k gate dielectrics. After that, more attention has been paid to the detailed discussion of on the latest development of novel Hf-based high-k gate dielectrics which have the potential for integration into a full CMOS process. Finally, we conclude this review with the perspectives and outlook on the future developments in this area. This review explores the possible influences of research breakthroughs of Hf-based gate dielectrics on the current and future applications for nano-MOSFET devices.  相似文献

Potassium fluoride peroxosolvate KF-H2O2 was obtained upon action of a 30% aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide on solid potassium fluoride dihydrate. As compared to other peroxosolvates, KF-H2O2 is characterized by the highest thermal stability: the decomposition rate constantk 1, at 120°C is 1.4 10–3 min–1, the enthalpy of H2O2 addition to KF is 8.1 kcal/ mol. The correlation between the high stability of KF-H2O2 and the absence of catalytic properties of KF towards H2O2, and the formation of strong intermolecular O-H...F and intramolecular O-H...O hydrogen bonds in the crystal is discussed.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Poly(monoitaconates) containing octyl, decyl and dodecyl groups and random monoalkylitaconate-co-vinylpyrrolidone copolymers were studied by thermogravimetric analysis. Copolymers of mono-n-octylitaconate (MOI), mono-n-decylitaconate (MDI), and mono-n-dodecylitaconate (MDoI), respectively, with N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (VP) of different compositions were studied by dynamic thermogravimetric analysis. The thermal stability of the copolymers depends on the structure of the monoitaconate comonomer and on the composition of the copolymer The kinetic analysis of the degradation data shows that the thermal decomposition of these copolymers can be described by several kinetic orders depending on the copolymer and on the composition. The relative thermal stability of the copolymers increases as the VP content increases and as the length of the side chain of the itaconate increases, following the same trend as the flexibility of the copolymers in solution.  相似文献
