A polystyrene macro-iniferter was applied to control the alignment of liquid crystal molecules at the droplet wall of polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films. The aspects of the alignment were monitored by observing the droplet in the PDLC film. With increasing the macro-iniferter polystyrene in the composition, the configuration of LC droplets changes from bipolar to radial. This is because the high concentration of the macro-iniferter polystyrene results in a small surface interaction between the LC and the polymer matrix, which favours the formation of radial configuration. The radial configuration was stable under our conditions. However, increasing the LC and the initiator concentrations resulted in the change from radial to bipolar.  相似文献

A series of poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(allyl glycidyl ether) (PEG‐b‐PAGE) macroinitiators are prepared using the living anionic ring‐opening polymerization (AROP) technique, and applied for further copolymerization studies. To overcome the low reactivity of the secondary hydroxyl end‐group of the PAGE block, a primary hydroxyl group is introduced into the macroinitiators via trityl and tert‐butyl‐dimethylsilane protective groups. The modified macroinitiators are used for copolymerization by applying different amounts of PEG‐b‐PAGE (5, 10, and 15%) and different PLGA lengths. To study their properties, nanoparticles from selected polymers are prepared and characterized by dynamic light scattering and scanning electron microscopy showing spherical particles with diameters around 200 nm and low PDIparticle values of 0.03–0.1. An advantage of the obtained polymers is the presence of double bonds in the side chain, which enables the modification via, for example, thiol‐ene reactions. For this purpose tertiary 2‐(dimethylamino)ethanethiol), acetylated thiogalactose and thiomannose are attached onto the double bonds of the PAGE‐blocks. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Several new macroinitiators and macromerinitiators (macroinimers) were synthesized and evaluated for the bulk polymerization of sytrene at 60°C. Macroinitiators were prepared from the reaction of 4,4′-dicyano-4,4′ azovaleryl chloride ( 1 ) with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with a Mω of 400 and with either benzoyl chloride, acetyl chloride, phenyl isocyanate, or poly(ethylene glycol) oleyl ether. Macromer initiators were also prepared from the reaction of 1 with PEG having Mω values of 200, 400, 600, 1000, or 1500 and with 4-vinylbenzyl chloride. The bulk polymerization of styrene by macroinimers gave crosslinked styrene-PEG block copolymers, while the polymerization by macroinitiators gave soluble copolymers. The molecular weights of the styrene-PEG block copolymers obtained with macroinitiators having either oleyl, benzoyl, or phenyl urethane end groups were 22000–29000 g/mol. DSC measurements showed that the crosslinked block copolymers had crystalline PEG units with melting transitions ranging from 11–37°C. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

A new fluorinated macroinitiator of poly 2,2,3,4,4,4-hexafluorobutyl methacrylate-Br (PHFMA-Br) was prepared via activator generated by electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerization (AGET ATRP), and then a series of fluorinated block copolymers with different fluorine content were successfully synthesized from the macroinitiator by the second step AGET ATRP. GPC, FTIR and 1H NMR data obtained verified the synthesis. Contact angle measurement indicated that proper fluorine content could decrease the surface energy and increase the contact angle of the copolymer films. XPS characterization showed that the large difference in surface energy between the block and random copolymer film resulted from the difference of the fluorine content on the surface, although the fluorine content of the two copolymers in bulk was similar. The self-assembly behavior of the fluorinated block copolymer in selective solvents was evaluated by the TEM study, and the stable micelles with a core-shell structure were observed when the copolymer content was about 1 wt%.  相似文献

The influence of the initiator structure on the reaction process was investigated. In addition to the initiator concentration, its molar mass and the content of perester groups in the single molecule are determining factors that influence the course of reaction. Quantitative relationships are shown. The initiator is bonded by grafting reactions on the surface of the latex particles. Poly(?-caprolactone)-b-poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(?-caprolactone) (PCL-b-PEG-b-PCL) triblock copolymer were synthesized by mean anionic activation of the hydroxyl end groups of poly(ethylene glycol) in presence of diphenylmethylsodium. Copolymers were characterized by SEC, FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy, TGA and DSC. Size exclusion chromatographic analysis of obtained copolymers indicated incorporation of CL monomer into PEG without formation of PCL homopolymer. Characterization by FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy of the resulting polymeric products, with respect to their structure, end-groups and composition, showed that they are best described as ester-ether-ester triblock copolymers, whose compositions can be adjusted changing the feeding molar ratio of PEG to CL. The thermal stability of triblock copolymers was less that PEG precursor, but higher that PCL homopolymer. Analysis by mean DSC showed that all copolymers were semi-crystalline and their thermal behavior depending on their composition.  相似文献

Novel telechelic tribromo terminated polyurethane (Br3-PU-Br3) was used as a macroinitiator in atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate using CuBr as a catalyst and NN,N',N”,N”-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as a ligand. During the course of polymerization, poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-polyurethane-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA-b-PU-b-PMMA) tri-block copolymers were formed. The resulting tri-block copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Molecular weight of the tri-block copolymers increases with increasing conversion. This result shows Br3-PU-Br3/CuBr/PMDETA initiating system polymerized methyl methacrylate through ATRP mechanism. NMR spectroscopy results revealed that apart from bromine atom transfer from Br3-PU-Br3 to PMDETA-CuBr complex, bromine atom transfer from the initially formed tri-block copolymer to PMDETA-CuBr complex also takes place, and, as a result, double bond terminated copolymer formed. Mole ratio of polyurethane and poly(methyl methacrylate) present in the PMMA-b-PU-b-PMMA tri-block copolymers was calculated using 1H-NMR spectroscopy and it was found to be comparable with the mole ratio calculated through GPC results. Differential scanning calorimetric results confirmed the presence of two different phases in the tri-block copolymers.  相似文献

Polyarylether dendrons as macroinitiators for the "living"/controlled free radical copoly-merization of N-phenylmaleimide (PhMI) and styrene (St) have been demonstrated. The copoly-merization was carried out in bulk or anisole with CuBr/bipy catalyst at 100-130℃. It is found that the resulting copolymers possess predetermined molecular weights and narrower polydispersities (1.18 < Mw/Mn<1.32). The effects of reaction temperature and monomer feed on the copolymeri-zation kinetics were investigated in detail. By using the Fineman-Ross method, the apparent monomer reactivity ratios for the atom transfer radical copolymerization of PhMI and St were determined to be rphM1 = 0.0207, and rst = 0.0484, respectively.  相似文献
