Preparation of Functionalized Imidazolium Salts under Microwave Irradiation

A direct alkylation of a substituted imidazole to prepare the corresponding functionalized ionic liquid has been developed in excellent yields under microwave irradiation.     

Regioselective Iodination of Activated Arenes Using Phenyl Trimethylammonium Dichloroiodate in Ionic Liquid Under Microwave Irradiation

Abstract

The regioselective iodination of activated arenes has been achieved in the presence of phenyltrimethylammonium dichloroiodate and ionic liquid. The reaction has been carried out by both conventional heating as well as by microwave irradiation.     

Effects of monomer structure on the morphology of polymer networks and the electro-optical properties of polymer-dispersed liquid crystal films

Polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films were prepared by photochemical polymerisation with a series of (meth)acrylate monomers. The effects of monomer structure on the morphology of polymer networks in the PDLC films were studied. The acrylate monomers without sidegroup chain formed uniform polymer networks. The methacrylate monomers with methyl as their sidegroup chains formed lace-like networks. The size of the LC droplets increased with increasing the length of the flexible chain of both methacrylate and acrylate monomers. Meanwhile, the effects of the morphology of the polymer network on the electro-optical properties of PDLC films were also investigated.     

Efficient Synthesis of 3,5,6‐Trisubstituted‐1,2,4‐triazines in the Brønsted Acidic Ionic Liquid, 1‐n‐Butylimidazolium Tetrafluoroborate ([Hbim]BF4)

3,5,6‐Trisubstituted‐1,2,4‐triazines were synthesized in a one‐pot reaction with acid hydrazide, 1,2‐diketone, and ammonium acetate in the Brønsted acidic ionic liquid, 1‐n‐butyl imidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([Hbim]BF₄).     

Solvent selection in ultrasonic-assisted emulsification microextraction: Comparison between high- and low-density solvents by means of novel type of extraction vessel

There are numerous published reports about dispersive liquid phase microextraction of the wide range of substances, however, till now no broadly accepted systematic and purpose oriented selection of extraction solvent has been proposed. Most works deal with the optimization of available solvents without adequate pre-consideration of properness. In this study, it is tried to compare the performances of low- and high-density solvents at the same conditions by means of novel type of extraction vessel with head and bottom conical shape. Extraction efficiencies of seven basic pharmaceutical compounds using eighteen common organic solvents were studied in this work. It was much easier to work with high-density solvents and they mostly showed better performances. This work shows that although exact predicting the performance of the solvents is multifaceted case but the pre-consideration of initial selection of solvents with attention to the physiochemical properties of the desired analytes is feasible and promising. Finally, the practicality of the method for extraction from urine and plasma samples was investigated.     

Z-scan analysis and ab initio studies of β-BaTeMo2O9 single crystal

The Z-scan measurements for the non-centrosymmetric optical crystals β-BaTeMo₂O₉ (BTMO) were performed. The corresponding experiments were carried out using the 5 ns pulses of the second harmonic of a nanosecond Nd:YAG laser at the 532 nm wavelength. It was shown that the studied crystals possess promising third-order optical susceptibilities, which allow to use the crystal as optical limiters. The comparison with other oxide materials is presented. To clarify the origin of the observed effect, the electronic and optical properties of BTMO were calculated using the density functional theory (DFT)-based method. The performed calculations of the electronic and optical properties revealed certain peculiar features that can be suitable for the nonlinear optical applications. The relation between the observed nonlinear optical features and the calculated band structure is emphasized. The values of the calculated band gap and refractive index for β-BaTeMo₂O₉ are also reported.     

Use of Extraction Disks for Trace Enrichment of Various Pesticides from River and Sea Water Samples

Abstract

C-18 Empore extraction disks were used for the isolation and trace enrichment of different groups of pesticides from river water and artificial sea water at concentration levels of 0.2, 5 and 20 μg/l [chlorotriazines, (atrazine and simazine), their dealkylated metabolites, (deethyl- and deisopropylatrazine), organophosphorus (parathion-ethyl), phenylurea (linuron), anilide (propanil), carbamate (aldicarb and carbofuran) and carbamate transformation products (aldicarb sulfoxide, aldicarb sulfone and 3-hydroxy-7-phenol carbofuran]. The extraction disks allowed high flow rates thus 51 samples could be processed within 2h. 30 min.

For most of the pesticides the recoveries, as determined by liquid chromatography with diode array detection (LC-DAD), varied from 74 up to 125% with coefficients of variations (CV) of 5-10%, whereas for the carbamate transformation products the recoveries were in the range of 30-35% having a CV of 17-21%. At spiking level of 0.2 μg/l the dealkylated triazine metabolites and the carbamate transformation products were not detected at all.     

Stripping Analysis of Trace Metals at a Flow-Through Reticulated Vitreous Carbon Electrode after the Preconcentration by Supported Liquid Membrane Technique

Abstract

The performance of a flow-through mercury coated reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC) electrode in the potentiometric stripping analysis (PSA) of trace metals has been examined. A wall-jet glassy carbon cell was used for the comparative experiments. Experimental parameters influencing the stripping signals have been optimised in order to use the stripping analysis after the preconcentration and matrix isolation by supported liquid membrane (SLM) technique. The SLM with di-2-ethylhexyl-phosphoric acid (DEHPA) as the extractant in the membrane liquid for proton driven transport of trace metals across the membrane has been chosen. Results presented for lead determination in river water demonstrate the analytical advantages of coupled technique SLM-PSA.
