On the split property for inclusions of -algebras

A characterization of the quasi-split property for an inclusion of -algebras in terms of the metrically nuclear maps is established. This result extends the known characterization relative to inclusions of -factors. An application to type von Neumann algebras is also presented.

     

Similarity-Invariant Subspaces and Similarity-Preserving Linear Maps

In this paper, the similarity-invariant subspaces of B(H), which is the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators on a separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space H, are completely characterized and the representations of bounded linear maps on B(H) which preserve similarity in both directions are given. Electrocatalytic reactions involving the NiII—ZnII—2,2"-bipyridine system

Factors determining the effect of Zn^II ions on the catalytic activity of the Ni^II complexes with 2,2"-bipyridine (bpy) in the reduction of organohalides were elucidated by cyclic voltammetry and electrolysis. The mechanism proposed involves the reduction of the Ni^IIbpy complex to Ni⁰bpy, the oxidative addition of organohalides to the Ni⁰bpy complex, and nickel transmetallation with the cathode-generated Zn⁰ to form an organozinc compound.     

Approximation Properties of the Operators ⋎n+2r(f) and of Their Discrete Analogs

This paper is devoted to the study of the approximation properties of linear operators which are partial Fourier--Legendre sums of order n with 2r terms of the form _k=1 ^2r a_kP_n+k(x) added; here P _m(x) denotes the Legendre polynomial. Due to this addition, the linear operators interpolate functions and their derivatives at the endpoints of the closed interval [-1,1], which, in fact, for r= = 1 allows us to significantly improve the approximation properties of partial Fourier--Legendre sums. It is proved that these operators realize order-best uniform algebraic approximation of the classes of functions and A _q (B). With the aim of the computational realization of these operators, we construct their discrete analogs by means of Chebyshev polynomials, orthogonal on a uniform grid, also possessing nice approximation properties.     

Exact Values of Widths of Classes of Analytic Functions on the Disk and Best Linear Approximation Methods

In the Hardy space H _p, (p1, 0< 1, H _p,1 H _p) we develop best linear approximation methods (previously studied by Taikov and Ainulloev) for the classes W(r,,) of analytic functions on the unit disk and calculate the exact values of linear, Gelfand, and informational n-widths of these classes.     

Nonlinear three-wave equation for a polydisperse gas-liquid mixture

A new nonlinear three-wave equation of the sixth order for pressure in a polydisperse gas-liquid mixture with bubbles of two sizes is obtained, and its stationary solutions are analyzed. The equation includes two nonlinear quadratic terms of different derivative orders. These terms are of fundamental importance for obtaining good correspondence between the solutions to this equation and the experimentally observed solitary waves in the form of two coupled solitons.     

LD-end-pumped Nd:YAP laser operating at 1341.4 nm and doubling of its frequency

We report an LD-end-pumped linearly-polarized continuous-wave (CW) Nd:YAP laser operating at 1341.4 nm. Making use of the plane-concave resonator (T = 2.4%) and the plane-plane resonator (T = 2.6%), we obtain linearly-polarized laser radiation at 1341.4 nm with a power of 3.15 and 2.86 W and corresponding optical slope efficiency of 18.4 and 17.5%, respectively. The effect of the laser oscillation mode on the output is analyzed. An experiment on the intra-cavity frequency doubling with an LBO crystal has been performed, and a laser power of 431 mW in one direction at 670.7 nm was obtained.     

Solution calorimetry of organic nonelectrolytes as a tool for investigation of intermolecular interactions

The paper is mainly the review and generalization of the previous publications of the authors. It demonstrates that solution calorimetry method gives the opportunities of more detailed understanding of various aspects of intermolecular interactions in solution. We are assured that prerequisite to such an understanding is the successive analysis of various solute–solvent systems from the simplest ones which include alkanes as a solute or as a solvent to the most complex systems with solvent self‐association via hydrogen bonding. Particular findings discussed in this paper are (i) an inconspicuous contribution of electrostatic solute–solvent interaction to the solvation enthalpy and, accordingly, the dominating contribution of dispersion interactions for nonspecifically solvated solutes; (ii) new, very general method for the extraction of specific interaction enthalpy from the enthalpy of solvation; (iii) new method of determination of self‐association enthalpies for the solvents associated via hydrogen bonding; (iv) new method for determination of cooperative hydrogen bonding enthalpies of proton acceptors with associated species of alcohols; (v) the unique method of experimental determination of the hydrophobic effect enthalpy.
