Characterization of proteins separated by displacement chromatography using low angle laser light scattering photometry

Summary -Lactoglobulin A and B (-LACT) were separated by displacement chromatography (DSC) on an ionexchange column using dextran sulfate as the displacer. A LALLS photometer and a UV detector, in series, were used to determine the molecular weight (MW) of the proteins, on-line. The results indicate that both, -LACT A and B, were present as dimers in the buffer used for the mobile phase. The MWs of the proteins were about 6–8% higher than the theoretical MW of a dimer (37,000). Additional control studies have shown the presence of a high molecular weight species in both the proteins, which could possibly be an aggregate. This species was observed in the LALLS signal but was nearly absent in the UV signal. Our work has demonstrated the feasibility of interfacing LALLS with displacement chromatography for detecting impurities or aggregates which may be difficult to detect by conventional detectors used for chromatography.     

Kinetics and mechanism of reactions of photoexcited kynurenine with molecules of some natural compounds

Photochemical reactions involving kynurenines, viz., molecules present in the eye lens, can result in modifications of the lens proteins and cause a development of a cataract. The rate constants of the reactions of photoexcited kynurenine with several amino acids and antioxidants contained in the lens were measured. The most efficient quenchers of triplet kynurenine are amino acids tryptophan and tyrosine, as well as antioxidant ascorbate. In all cases, the quenching reaction proceeds by the electron transfer mechanism, except for the reaction with oxygen where transfer of the triplet energy to the oxygen molecule occurs. COPOLYMERS OF 2-ACRYLAMIDO-2-METHYL-1-PROPANESULFONIC ACID/MALEIC ACID： SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY

2-Acrylamido-2-methy1-1-propanesulfonic acid(AMPS),and maleic acid(MA)copolymerized with different feed ratios using N,N-dimethylformamide as a solvent and benzoyl peroxide(Bz_2O_2)as an initiator at 70℃.Structure and composition of copolymers for a wide range of monomer feed were determined by elemental analysis(content of N for AMPS-units).Monomer reactivity ratios for AMPS(M_1)-MA(M_2)pair were determined by the application of conventional linearization methods such as Fineman-Ross(F-R),Kelen-Tüd(?)s(KT)and Extended Kelen-Tüds(EKT)and a nonlinear error invariable model method using a computer program RREVM.The characterizations were done by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)thermal gravimetry analysis(TGA),and and X-ray diffraction.The antimicrobial effects of polymers were also tested on various bacteria,and yeast.

报道用催化反应热诱导激光光偏转法测定痕量尿素。发现将脲酶制成一定浓度的乙醇浓液能显著地增强激光光偏转信号强度。探讨了增强作用机理以及光偏转号强度与尿素浓度的关系，并应用于尿样中尿素含量的测定，结果满意。     

Dielectric properties of beryllia ceramics in the near-millimeter wavelength range

We report the refractive indices and absorption coefficients for four beryllia (BeO) ceramic samples. These dielectric properties have been measured over the range from 4 to 18 cm^–1 by use of a Michelson interferometer. The index n, follows the linear relationship n=0.6517 cm³/g×+0.7130 with density, , over the range 2.8<<3.0 g/cm³.     

Short wavelength operation of the CH3F Raman FIR laser

Using the isotopic species¹³CH₃F in the methyl-fluoride Raman laser, we have observed kilowatt-level laser pulses which can be tuned over a series of intervals that are centered on pure-rotational transitions in thev ₃ ground state with initial-state J values between 35 and 43, inclusively. Taken together, these tuning intervals cover 35% of the spectrum between 142 and 174 m. Several straightforward improvements in the experimental setup, including the use of isotopically purer¹³CH₃F, should enhance the spectral coverage in this region.     

Recyclization of pyrimidinium salts into 1,2,4-triazole derivatives

The interaction of the iodomethylates of pyrimidinyl-2-acetic acid derivatives with monosubstituted hydrazines, in addition to the products of a Kost-Sagitullin rearrangement, leads also to N-substituted triazoles. The structure of the triazoles was demonstrated by NOESY NMR experiments. The structure of the reaction products was determined on the basis of the response observed in the spectra between the methyl group protons of the triazole ring and the spatially close proton of the substituent in position 1 and a conclusion was drawn on the direction of the primary attack of nucleophile in the recyclization process of the pyrimidinium salts into a 1,2,4-triazole. __________ Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 8, pp. 1175–1179, August, 2007.     

Infrared Spectroscopy and Structure of Trigonal Zirconium Orthophosphates with Lanthanides and Actinides

Binary zirconium orthophosphates R_1/3Zr₂(PO₄)₃ and M_1/4Zr₂(PO₄)₃, where R = Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu; M = Th, U, have been synthesized and studied by IR spectroscopy [structural family of NaZr₂(PO₄)₃ (NZP)]. Vibrational analysis for the PO₄ tetrahedron and investigation of symmetry relations among trigonal NZP phases showed that ordering of lanthanide atoms in structures of NaZr₂(PO₄)₃ type with space group R c leads to symmetry reduced to P c. The lanthanide atoms occupy the 2b sites. The phosphorus atoms occupy two independent sites: 6f with C ₂ symmetry and 12g with C ₁ symmetry. Factor group analysis admits that the IR spectrum can contain eight v₃ bands and two v₁ bands of the stretching vibrations of the PO₄ ions.
