Separation of Carrier Free Manganese-54 and Iron-59 Using Reversed Phase Partition Chromatography

Carrier free radioactive ⁵⁴Mn and ⁵⁹Fe enjoy favoured position in industrial, agricultural and medical applications [1]. The main methods used for their isolation from suitable irradiated targets are mainly based on solvent extraction [2] or ion exchange [3].     

Labelling and Fractionating of Black Mamba Venom using 131I and Gel-Filtration Technique

Separation of Black Mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) venom into three fractions was achieved by the use of Sephadex G-100 filtration method. The first and highest peak of the three separated bands proved to be the lethally toxic. Labelling the venom with nascent¹³¹ I prior to fractionating facilitated the detection and the evaluation of three well resoluted fractions. Comparative separation of non-labelled venom was also carried out side by side with the labelled one to study the advantage of radioactivity on extinction measurements.     

Präparation polykristalliner LiF-Speicherphosphore für die Thermolumineszenzdosimetrie

Zur Ausbildung eines intensiven Glowmaximums der Thermolumineszenz bei 200°C wurden eine Vielzahl von Kationen auf ihre Aktivatorwirkung gegenüber LiF untersucht. Als günstige Aktivatoren erwiesen sich bei der Herstellung des LiF mitgefällte Mg-, Ca- und Ti-Spuren. Die Eigenscaften der präparierten Phosphore werden mit den Analysenergebnissen verglichen und diskutiert.

Abstract

The isotopic composition (D, ¹⁸O, ⁸⁷Sr, ³He) of thermal and mineral waters of Mongolia is discussed. The Sr-isotope ratio depends on the rock's contact. Near the Chubsugul-lake ³He-/⁴He-values are high. A certain similarity between the waters of Mongolia and those of East Siberia can be derived from the obtained data.     

Fortschritte in der Auswertung von Markierungsversuchen an dynamischen Systemen

In einem dynamischen System vollziehen sich kontinuierlich ablaufende Stoffwandlungen, deren Ausgangsstoffe dem System ständig zufließen und deren Folgeprodukte das System kontinuierlich verlassen. Es wird das Verhalten eines solchen Systems mit drei Pools bei Markierungsexperimenten untersucht. Die Ergebnisse dieser mathematischen Untersuchungen werden auf die Erforschung des Stickstoffstoffwechsels laktierender Rinder mit Hilfe des stabilen Isotops ¹⁵N angewandt. In diesem Fall enthält das dynamische System zwei kleine stoffwechselaktive Pools und einen großen, niclit intensiv am Stoffwechsel beteiligten Körpereiweiβ-Pool.     

Vibrational Structure of the B—X System of Isotopic Ago Molecules

Spectra of ¹⁰⁷Ag¹⁸O and ¹⁰⁷Ag¹⁶O molecules have been obtained in a low-pressure arc in oxygen atmosphere, and recorded with medium dispersion. Vibrational assignments for the bands of B ²π —X²π system were verified by the study of the oxygen isotope effect, and the vibrational constants were obtained for the states involved in transitions.

Minireview: Advances in Germanium Isotope Analysis by Multiple Collector–Inductively Coupled Plasma–Mass Spectrometry

The advent of multiple collector–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS) has made the high-precision determination of Ge isotopes possible, which leads to the widespread application of Ge isotopes in earth, ocean, and cosmochemistry fields. This paper reviews the history of Ge isotope analysis, chemical dissolution and purification, and mass spectrometry measurements. Concentrated HNO₃ is sufficient to dissolve nearly all types of samples and HF is also involved for Si-rich samples. Low-temperature ashing prior to dissolution is an alternative way to preconcentrate Ge in organic-rich samples. For different matrices, Ge isotopes can be determined by MC-ICP-MS coupled with a traditional nebulizer system or hydride generation system after two-step separation, one step cation/anion-exchange separation, or Mg/Fe co-precipitation protocols. Ion-exchange column methods are suitable for samples with elevated matrix and Ge content such as sulfides, iron oxides, silicate rocks, and coals, whereas Mg or Fe coprecipitation methods are particularly suitable for all kinds of water. Hydride generation systems are improved over traditional nebulizer system due to the smaller sample quantity and fewer matrix-related interferences. Sample-standard bracketing, double spike, and external Ga isotope normalization are used to mass bias correction and yield consistent results. Analytical methods involving Ge-poor samples and Ge isotope analyses based on different Ge species or specific Ge compound in natural environment will be important prospects in the further study. For further applications of Ge isotopes in mineral deposits such as sulfide and iron oxide deposits, sulfides, and iron oxides reference materials should be developed in the future.

Diese Messungen erfolgen in 4 Arbitsschritten: elektrolytische Anreicherung der natiärlichen Tritium-Konzentrationen, Messung des Anreicherungsfaktors mit einem Flüssigkeitsszintillationszähler, Synthese von Äthan aus dem angereicherten Probenwasser und tritiumfreiem Acetylen, Messung des Probentritiums in Äthan mit einem Proportionalzähler. Die untcre Nachweisgrenze (Meβzeit 48 Studnden, statistischer Fehler 50%) beträgt 1 T.E.
