New ligands for the Fe(III)‐mediated reverse atom transfer radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate

A series of (di)picolinic acids and their derivates are investigated as novel complexing tridentate or bidentate ligands in the iron‐mediated reverse atom transfer radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate in N,N‐dimethylformamide at 100 °C with 2,2′‐azobisisobutyrontrile as an initiator. The polymerization rates and polydispersity indices (1.32–1.8) of the resulting polymers are dependent on the structures of the ligands employed. Different iron complexes may be involved in iron‐mediated reverse atom transfer radical polymerization, depending on the type of acid used. ¹H NMR spectroscopy has been used to study the structure of the resulting polymers. 两种拔尿管方法对膀胱功能损伤的临床观察

为观察两种不同的拔尿管方法对膀胱功能损伤的差异,将80例患者随机分成两组,分别采用改良法(40例)和常规法(40例)拔除留置尿管,分析比较了两组患者排尿顺利率、逼尿肌功能恢复率及尿道刺激症、尿失禁、尿潴留。结果表明,两组患者拔管后上述指标与情况有显著性差异,P<0.05。提示改良组膀胱功能损伤明显低于对照组。改良的拔管方法是一种值得护理推广应用的好方法。     

Field Theory Methods in Classical Dynamics

A Dirac picture perturbation theory is developed for the time evolution operator in classical dynamics in the spirit of the Schwinger–Feynman–Dyson perturbation expansion and detailed rules are derived for computations. Complexification formalisms are given for the time evolution operator suitable for phase space analyses, and then extended to a two-dimensional setting for a study of the geometrical Berry phase as an example. Finally a direct integration of Hamilton's equations is shown to lead naturally to a path integral expression, as a resolution of the identity, as applied to arbitrary functions of generalized coordinates and momenta.     

Collisional excitation of Na-Rydberg atoms

The scattering of heavy ion with a multilevel Rydberg atom in the presence of an electromagnetic field is studied. The interaction of Rydberg atom and the e.m field is explored using non-perturbative quasi-energy technique. Although the results are presented for selected excitations but in actual calculations we have included many levels of the atom. The effect of various parameters are shown on collisional excitation process. As an illustration detailed calculations are performed for the inelastic proton-Na Rydberg atom collision accompanied by the transfer of photons and the effects of dressing due to the field are considered. The emphasis of the present work is on collision induced transitions especially the case that involves change of orbital as well as principal quantum number. Comparisons between model equations for long waves

Summary Considered here are model equations for weakly nonlinear and dispersive long waves, which feature general forms of dispersion and pure power nonlinearity. Two variants of such equations are introduced, one of Korteweg-de Vries type and one of regularized long-wave type. It is proven that solutions of the pure initial-value problem for these two types of model equations are the same, to within the order of accuracy attributable to either, on the long time scale during which nonlinear and dispersive effects may accumulate to make an order-one relative difference to the wave profiles.This research was supported in part by the National Science Foundation. A considerable portion of the project was completed while the first author was resident at the Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications, University of Minnesota.     

Parametric oscillation at 2.1 μm in periodically poled RbTiOAsO4

An Nd:YAG laser-pumped periodically poled RbTiOAsO₄ (PPRTA) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) near degeneracy is reported. At a pump power of 3.7 W, a net conversion efficiency of 43% was obtained. These crystals were found to be phase-matchable for the higher order quasi-phase-matched second-harmonic generation (SHG) in the visible range. Detailed analyses of the phase-matching properties for these processes were made by using the published Sellmeier and thermo-optic dispersion formulas.

Some degenerate and quasilinear parabolic systems not in divergence form

This paper deals with positive solutions of degenerate and quasilinear parabolic systems not in divergence form: u_t=u^p(Δu+av), v_t=v^q(Δv+bu), with null Dirichlet boundary conditions and positive initial conditions, where p, q, a and b are all positive constants. The local existence and uniqueness of classical solution are proved. Moreover, it will be proved that all solutions exist globally if and only if ab?λ₁², where λ₁ is the first eigenvalue of −Δ in Ω with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition.     

Combined effect of PMD and PDL on four-wave-mixing-induced crosstalk in WDM system

We derive an explicit autocorrelation function (ACF) formula of state of polarization for a fiber transmission system with polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and polarization dependent loss (PDL), which is found to agree well with Monte Carlo simulation. Then we use the new ACF to investigate the combined effect of PMD and PDL on the polarization multiplexed scheme. We find the performance of the polarization multiplexed scheme can be deteriorated more severely than the case without PDL.
