A simple and cost effective method for the quantification of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine from urine using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry

A rapid and high-throughput method for the determination of urinary levels of the oxidative stress biomarker, 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OH-dG), has been developed and validated using liquid chromatography combined with electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The assay features a cheap and readily available non-isotopic internal standard, a single-step filtration sample preparation, and a total analysis time of 6 min including column re-equilibration. The method was validated based on linearity, accuracy (100-106%), precision (CV < 7%), sample preparation stability (< or =5%, 72 h). Intra-laboratory patient ranges were established comparing children and adults (n = 345).     

β-Silylacrylate as a Multipurpose Reagent in Organic Synthesis

Acrylates are well known electrophilic alkenes having multitude of applications in organic synthesis. They are very good acceptors in Michael addition reactions and are good enophile/dienophile/dipolarophile partners in cycloaddition reactions. Replacing the β-alkyl/aryl groups in acrylates by a silicon group would be interesting. In addition to the conventional reactions displayed by acrylates, β-silylacrylates (β-SAs) can show reactivity specifically related to the silicon group. Many conventional organic reactions such as hydrodimerization, organocatalytic asymmetric Michael additions, inter- and intra-molecular Diels–Alder reactions, and asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions have been used to generate the complex chemical entities from β-SAs. Some of the reaction outcomes were vastly influenced by the silicon substituent. This review describes the practical synthesis β-SAs and their use as starting point in complex molecule generation including total synthesis of some natural products/bioactive molecules.     

The effect of substitution on the intramolecular hydrogen bonding in 3‐hydroxy‐propenethial

The intramolecular hydrogen bond strength of 3‐hydroxy‐propenethial (HPT) as well as the fluoro, chloro, bromo, and methyl derivatives were investigated at the B3LYP/6‐311++G^** level of theory. Solvent‐based calculations (in water) for HPT and derivatives were also carried out. The nature of the intramolecular hydrogen bond existing within the molecular under investigation has been studied by means of the Bader theory of atoms in molecules (AIM) that is based upon the use topological properties in terms of the electron density. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Analysis of thermal expansion coefficients under the effect of high temperature for minerals

A simple and straightforward method for the determination of thermal expansion is investigated and applied for four minerals of geophysical importance. The results obtained for four minerals such as Mg₂SiO₃, Al₂O₃, Grossular garnet and Pyrope garnet at different temperatures are found to be in excellent agreement with the experimental data. The simplicity of the method is discussed in the light of another method in high temperature research on minerals.

首次报告在Ａ３Ｍ２Ｇｅ３Ｏ１２∶Ｃｒ（Ａ＝Ｃｄ２＋,Ｃａ２＋;Ｍ＝Ａｌ３＋,Ｇａ３＋,Ｓｃ３＋）锗酸盐石榴石体系中,Ｃｒ３＋离子室温下的红—近红外（Ｒ—ＮＩＲ）宽发射带光谱性质。随位于八面体格位上的Ａｌ３＋→Ｇａ３＋→Ｓｃ３＋和十二面体格位上的Ｃｄ２＋→Ｃａ２＋组成顺序变化,室温下,Ｃｒ３＋离子的４Ｔ２→４Ａ２能级跃迁的Ｒ－ＮＩＲ宽发射带,发射峰及光谱的长波和短波边逐渐向低能长波边移动。这是由于晶场强度减弱,阳离子的离子半径增大的结果。在镉（钙）铝和镉（钙）镓锗酸盐体系中,少量Ｓｃ３＋取代八面体上的Ａｌ３＋和Ｇａ３＋时,可使Ｃｒ３＋的Ｒ－ＮＩＲ荧光发射强度增强。     

Synthesis and characterization of near‐monodisperse electron acceptor homopolymers of 2‐[(3,5‐dinitrobenzoyl)oxy]ethyl methacrylate

Homopolymers of 2‐(trimethylsiloxy)ethyl methacrylate of degrees of polymerization from 5 to 50 were synthesized by group transfer polymerization in tetrahydrofuran (THF) using 1‐methoxy‐1‐(trimethylsiloxy)‐2‐methyl propene as the initiator and tetrabutylammonium bibenzoate as the catalyst. These polymers were first converted to poly[2‐(hydroxy)ethyl methacrylate]s by removal of the trimethylsilyl‐protecting groups by acidic hydrolysis, and subsequently transformed to poly{2‐[(3,5‐dinitrobenzoyl)oxy]ethyl methacrylate}s by reaction with 3,5‐dinitrobenzoyl chloride in the presence of triethylamine. Gel permeation chromatography in THF and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (¹H NMR) spectroscopy in CDCl₃ and d₆ dimethyl sulfoxide were used to characterize the polymers in terms of their molecular weight and composition. The molecular weights were found to be close to the values expected from the polymerization stoichiometry and the molecular weight distributions were narrow, with polydispersity indices around 1.1. The hydrolysis and reesterification steps were found to be almost quantitative for all polymers. Differential scanning calorimetry and thermal gravimetric analysis were also employed to measure the glass transition temperatures (T_g 's) and decomposition temperatures, which were determined to be approximately 80 and 320 °C, respectively. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
