Preparation of nanometer MgO by sol-gel auto-combustion

Nanometer MgO was prepared via a sol-gel auto-combustion technique using magnesium nitrate as raw material and citric acid as chelating agent. IR spectra of the dried gel were used to investigate the structure of the precursors. By studying the different TG curves of magnesium citrate gel prepared by different methods, we found that a combustion process occurred and the nitrate ions acted as an oxidant in the combustion process. TEM photographs of synthesized powders from the sol-gel auto-combustion showed that the crystallites were uniform in size. In addition, the XRD pattern of this sample showed that the particle size was 8.9 nm. The BET curves, in turn, showed that the specific surface of the sample was 26.34 m²/g. Symmetry specified enumeration of substituted derivatives: an easy solution to the complex problem

Several sophisticated methods to solution of symmetry specified enumeration problems are available in the modern literature. In this paper we propose a simple technique that allows one to manually compute the exact numbers of fixed-symmetry derivatives for a given structure either with inclusion or ignoring the substitution patterns. The basic idea of the method suggested consists in the derivation of Pólya-like cycle indices for the automorphism groups of specially constructed orbit partition graphs; the expansion of these indices and subsequent simple calculations result in the desired numbers of substituted derivatives with achiral substituents. Limitations of the new technique (and a method suggested earlier) depend on the relevance of the orbit partitions for particular subgroups of the point symmetry group. For illustration purposes, the results obtained for the prismane (D _3h ) and adamantane (T _d ) structures are discussed. In the former case the numbers of substituted derivatives can be found for all subgroups of the D _3h group, whereas in the latter case these numbers can be determined for eight out of eleven subgroups of the T _d point symmetry group. This work is based on the text of the lecture presented by the authors at the 5th All-Russia Conference on Molecular Modeling (Moscow, April 2007). The paper deals with the methodology and detailed treatment of applied aspects related to solution of enumeration problems for substituted derivatives with prescribed symmetry groups. Unlike the known methods of symmetry specified enumeration, the technique suggested is simple enough and may be regarded as generalization of the Pólya methodology, which is widely used by chemists. Inhibitors of biotin biosynthesis as potential herbicides

Isosteric derivatives and analogues of the 7-keto-8-aminopelargonic acid (KAPA), 7,8-diaminopelargonic acid (DAPA) and desthiobiotin (DTB) vitamer intermediates involved in the biosynthetic pathway of biotin were prepared and evaluated as potential herbicides. The most active compound was desmethyl-KAPA which displayed a GR₅₀ (concentration of the active compound that causes a 50% growth inhibition) value of 8 ppm, where values <50 ppm are considered herbicidal. Other KAPA analogs where the terminal Me group was replaced by bulkier substituents such as Et, i-Pr and HOCH₂ showed moderate activity.     

Alkylation and acylation of basic salts of anthranilic acid

The O-nucleophilicity of basic anthranilic acid salts was documented, analyzed, and utilized in synthesis. Specifically substitutions leading to esters instead of secondary amines, and formation of anthranilic acid anhydrides were studied.     

Effect of External Acidity of Mordenite-Supported Catalysts on the 2,2-Dimethylbutane Content in Hydroisomerization Products of n-Hexane

We have used potentiometric titration with tetrabutylammonium hydroxide to determine the acid center content on the outer surface of dealuminated natural and synthetic mordenites. We have established a symbatic relationship between the 2,2-dimethylbutane content in the hydroisomerization products of n-hexane on dealuminated palladium-containing mordenites and the number of their external acid centers. We have studied the possibility of partial deactivation of such centers during ion-exchange deposition of palladium on the catalysts, using a tetraammine palladium solution.     

固定化单宁对酒类营养成分的吸附性能研究

采用固定化单宁对酒中可能存在的营养成分蛋白质、氨基酸、糖类、有机酸、乙醇和铁离子等进行吸咐试验。结果表明：固定化单宁对不同营养成分的吸附率差别明显，它通过氢键和疏水作用对蛋白质有较大的吸附率，通过多个酚羟基与中心铁离子形成螯合物而对其有较大的吸附率，对氨基酸、糖、有机酸和乙醇等营养成分或风味物质吸附率不大，固定化单宁可以作为一种较为理想的酒类处理剂。     

Structural characterization of nanopatterned surfaces

In this work, chemically and topographically nanopatterned surfaces were produced by a top-down processing approach for biosensing devices. The nanopatterning was the result of the combination of plasma polymerisation (pp) of biofunctional materials and colloidal lithography techniques. The morphological and chemical properties induced by the plasma deposition-etching treatment were characterised by optical method combining ellipsometry and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy studies. This method supported by atomic force microscopy measurements, allowed the full optical characterization of each step of the top-down process. The optical characterization of the end-up nanopatterned samples demonstrated that the chosen process is able to produce well-defined nanostructured surfaces with controlled chemical and morphological properties.     

Sugar conjugates of fulvestrant (ICI 182,780): efficient general procedures for glycosylation of the fulvestrant core

We have prepared glucose and cellobiose conjugates at the phenolic 3- and hydroxylic 17-positions of the pure anti-estrogenic compound fulvestrant (ICI 182,780), which has recently been approved in the USA for the treatment of advanced postmenopausal breast cancer. Glycosylation at the 17-position was achieved most effectively using pivaloyl protection of the sugar imidates employed, which we found suppressed the competing transacylation reaction and led to improved yields of the product glycosides.
