Generalized Equilibrium Problems and Generalized Complementarity Problems

From a general minimax inequality or an abstract lopsided saddle-point theorem, we deduce general Karamardian-type equilibrium theorems and generalized complementarity theorems. Our new results extend a number of well-known earlier works of many authors.     

Hopf Modules and Noncommutative Differential Geometry

We define a new algebra of noncommutative differential forms for any Hopf algebra with an invertible antipode. We prove that there is a one-to-one correspondence between anti-Yetter–Drinfeld modules, which serve as coefficients for the Hopf cyclic (co)homology, and modules which admit a flat connection with respect to our differential calculus. Thus, we show that these coefficient modules can be regarded as “flat bundles” in the sense of Connes’ noncommutative differential geometry.     

Constructing two-weight codes with prescribed groups of automorphisms

We construct new linear two-weight codes over the finite field with q elements. To do so we solve the equivalent problem of finding point sets in the projective geometry with certain intersection properties. These point sets are in bijection to solutions of a Diophantine linear system of equations. To reduce the size of the system of equations we restrict the search for solutions to solutions with special symmetries.Two-weight codes can be used to define strongly regular graphs. We give tables of the two-weight codes and the corresponding strongly regular graphs. In some cases we find new distance-optimal two-weight codes and also new strongly regular graphs.     

Pricing and distributed QoS control for elastic network traffic

We study a processor-sharing model in which users choose between a high- and a low-priority service, based on their utility functions and prices charged by the service provider. The latter aims at revenue maximization. The model is motivated by file transmissions in data networks with distributed congestion control.     

Single-server queues with spatially distributed arrivals

Consider a queueing system where customers arrive at a circle according to a homogeneous Poisson process. After choosing their positions on the circle, according to a uniform distribution, they wait for a single server who travels on the circle. The server's movement is modelled by a Brownian motion with drift. Whenever the server encounters a customer, he stops and serves this customer. The service times are independent, but arbitrarily distributed. The model generalizes the continuous cyclic polling system (the diffusion coefficient of the Brownian motion is zero in this case) and can be interpreted as a continuous version of a Markov polling system. Using Tweedie's lemma for positive recurrence of Markov chains with general state space, we show that the system is stable if and only if the traffic intensity is less than one. Moreover, we derive a stochastic decomposition result which leads to equilibrium equations for the stationary configuration of customers on the circle. Steady-state performance characteristics are determined, in particular the expected number of customers in the system as seen by a travelling server and at an arbitrary point in time.     

Interpolatory integration rules and orthogonal polynomials with varying weights

We investigate which types of asymptotic distributions can be generated by the knots of convergent sequences of interpolatory integration rules. It will turn out that the class of all possible distributions can be described exactly, and it will be shown that the zeros of polynomials that are orthogonal with respect to varying weight functions are good candidates for knots of integration rules with a prescribed asymptotic distribution.Research supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (AZ: Sta 299/4-2).     

苯对N,N-二甲基甲酰胺化合物1H NMR的影响研究

本文研究了N,N-二甲基甲酰胺(DMF)在四氯化碳和苯混合溶剂中的¹H NMR。观察到N,N-二甲基甲酰胺(DMF)分子中两个甲基和混合溶剂中苯的共振吸收峰的化学位移随苯的摩尔分数增加而逐渐移向高场,而且两个甲基共振吸收峰向高场移动的程度不同,α甲基较β甲基为甚。DMF分子中两个甲基和混合溶剂中苯的化学位移可以用线性方程表示(δ=A+Bx),这里x是混合溶剂中苯的摩尔分数。相关系数R接近于-1。     

Power expansions for the self-similar solutions of the modified Sawada-Kotera equation

The fourth-order ordinary differential equation that defines the self-similar solutions of the Kaup—Kupershmidt and Sawada—Kotera equations is studied. This equation belongs to the class of fourth-order analogues of the Painlevé equations. All the power and non-power asymptotic forms and expansions near points z = 0, z = ∞ and near an arbitrary point z = z ₀ are found by means of power geometry methods. The exponential additions to the solutions of the studied equation are also determined.      

Computational experience with general equilibrium problems

We report on computational experience with an implementation of three algorithms for the general economic equilibrium problem. As a result we get that the projection algorithm for variational inequalities increases the size of solvable models by a factor of 5–10 in comparison with the classical homotopy method. As a third approach we implemented a simulated annealing heuristic which might be suitable to estimate equilibria for very large models.Supported by the German Research Association (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, SFB 303).
