Synthesis,molecular and crystal structures,and characteristic features of electronic structures of salicylamide-based B,Si-containing chelates

The reaction of 4-(2-hydroxybenzoyl)-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-2,6-disilamorpholine with BF₃Et₂O afforded (O-B)-chelate 4-[2-(difluoroboroxy)benzoyl]-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-2,6-disilamorpholine. Treatment of the latter with BF₃Et₂O or SOCl₂ gave rise to products of the disilamorpholine ring opening, viz., (O-B) chelate 2-(difluoroboroxy)-N,N-bis(dimethylfluorosilylmethyl)benzamide or 2-(difluoroboroxy)-N, N-bis(dimethylchlorosilylmethyl)benzamide, respectively. The structures of the compounds synthesized were confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis and ¹H, ¹³C, and ²⁹Si NMR spectroscopy. High-precision X-ray diffraction study and quantum-chemical calculations demonstrated that the coordination OSi bond is absent in the two last-mentioned compounds.Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. Age related changes in the thermal transition of Turkey leg flexor tendon collagen

A differential scanning calorimetric, thermogravimetric and electron microscopic investigation has been carried out on the uncalcified areas of turkey leg flexor tendon as a function of age. Rehydrated samples exhibit an increase of thermal stability with age. The H_D values drop from about 11 cal·g^–1 in the first weeks of life down to 7 cal·g^–1 after the 11th week.At about 11 weeks, the collagen fibril diameter distribution passes from unimodal to multimodal. The DSC curves as well as the TG-DTG curves recorded from dried samples do not show any appreciable difference with ageing. The variations in thermal behaviour of rehydrated samples and fibril diameter distribution could be related to modifications in water binding with ageing.The Authors are grateful to Dr. G. Substituent effects on the kinetics for the chemiluminescence reaction of 6-arylimidazo[1,2-a]pyrazin-3(7H)-ones (Cypridina luciferin analogues): support for the single electron transfer (SET)-oxygenation mechanism with triplet molecular oxygen

Kinetics of chemiluminescence reactions of 2-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[1,2-a]pyrazin-3(7H)-one (1c, Cypridina luciferin analogue) and substituent effects of the 6-aryl group of derivatives 1 strongly suggest that the rate-determining step is a single electron transfer from an anion derived from 1 to a triplet molecular oxygen (O₂) in the oxygenation process.     

Impact of electron-electron interaction on the electron energy distribution function in molecular plasmas under rf field action

Calculations of the electron energy distribution and of relevant macroscopic quantities of collision-dominated, weakly ionized plasmas under rf field action have been performed with increasing degrees of ionization, and the impact of the electron-electron interaction on these quantities was determined. The investigations were performed for the gas plasmas in CO and H₂ as representatives of molecular plasmas The energy distribution and macroscopic quantities are obtained by solving the nonstationary Bolizmann equation for a given rf field and degree of ionization taking into accoung and additional Fokker-Planck term besides the collision integrals for the elastic and the main inelastic collision processes. In these molecular plasmas a remarkable impact of the electron-electron interaction connected with increasing Maxwellization is observed for degrees of ionization greater than 10.     

Solid-State polymerization of the binary mixture of methacrylate and liquid-crystalline compound by electron beam

Solid-state polymerization of a binary mixture of nonliquid-crystalline monomer and liquidcrystalline compound was carried out using electron beam. The monomers were benzoic acid containing 4-[ω-(meth)acryloyloxyalkyloxy] benzoic acids, in which the alkylene spacer was ethylene, hexamethylene, or undecamethylene. The conversion yield of monomer to polymer to a large extent increased with increasing content of a liquid-crystalline compound with a terminal carboxylic group, such as 4-n-alkyloxybenzoic acid, while the addition of a liquid-crystalline compound without terminal carboxylic group did not affect polymerization of the monomer. Phase diagrams of the mixture of monomer and liquid-crystalline compound were examined using cross-polarizing microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). All mixtures of monomer and 4-n-alkyloxybenzoic acid or liquid-crystalline compound without terminal carboxylic group showed liquid-crystallinity in a broad composition range. It was concluded that liquid-crystalline compounds with terminal carboxylic acid may form hydrogen bondings with methacrylate or acrylate monomer having terminal carboxylic acid which enhance polymerizability of the mixture. The stereoregularity of polymers determined by NMR depended on increasing irradiation dose and temperature rather than the content of the added liquid-crystalline 4-n-decanoxybenzoic acid.     

Synthesis of Alkylcyclophosphanes from Red Phosphorus – molecular structure of i-Pr4P4 by gas electron diffraction

A polyphosphide of the type (NaP)_X 1 was obtained from red phosphorus and sodium in presence of small amounts of naphthalene in 1,2-dimethoxyethane as solvent. 1 reacts with alkyl halides in dependence on the kind of alkyl group with formation of different alkylcyclophosphanes. As definite compounds Me₅P₅ 2 , Et₅P₅ 3 (with not definite constitution), i-Pr₄P₄ 4 and t-Bu₄P₄ 5 could be isolated. 1 was identified by X-ray diffraction, 2 – 5 by means of their ¹H, ¹³C, ³¹P n.m.r. and mass spectra. The molecular structure of 4 was identified by electron diffraction.
