Reaction kinetics of the selective liquid phase hydrogenation of styrene oxide to β-phenethyl alcohol

Liquid phase hydrogenation of styrene oxide using 1% Pd/C and NaOH as a promoter was found to give selectively β-phenethyl alcohol (PEA) under very mild conditions (313–333 K; 0.68–5.5 MPa). The kinetics of this system was investigated by collecting initial rate data in a batch slurry reactor. Rate of hydrogenation was found to decrease beyond a certain concentration of both hydrogen (>3 MPa) and styrene oxide (>0.5 kmol/m³). A Langmuir–Hinshelwood type rate equation has been proposed based on the initial rate data in the kinetic regime. The model predictions agree very well with the experimentally observed concentration–time data indicating the applicability of the proposed rate model.     

Deuterated ammonium formate as deuterium source in a mild catalytic deuterium transfer reaction of pyridines, pyrazines and isoquinolines

The application of deuterated ammonium formate as deuterium source in transfer deuteration reactions of aromatic heterocycles (4-6) for the synthesis of highly deuterated, substituted piperidines (1), piperazines (2) and tetrahydroisoquinolines (3) has been developed.     

Synthesis of New Ligand 1,2-Bis{di[（R,R）-1,3,2-oxzaphosphlidine]phosphino}ethane with C_2-symmetric Axis and Application in Rh-catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenation

New ligand 1,2-bis{di[（R,R）-1,3,2-oxzaphosphlidine]phosphino}ethane [（R,R）-BDOPPEs 1,2,3 and 4] with C2-symmetric axis and bearing nitrogen and oxygen were synthesized from readily available optically active amino alcohols.Rh complexes with these ligands were highly enantioselective catalysts for asymmetric hydrogenation of N-benzoyldehydroamino acid derivatives and α-functionalized ketones in 99%e.e.and 98%e.e.,respectively.This new class of（R,R）-BDOPPEs 1,2,3 and 4 gave much more effectivity and enantionselectivity than their corresponding non-C2-asymmetric aminophosphine phosphinite.     

Benzo[b]thiophene as a template for substituted quinolines and tetrahydroquinolines

An original methodology starting from 3-aroyl-2-(2′-nitro-4′-methoxyphenyl)-benzo[b]thiophene allows the synthesis of unusual fused heterocycles. Direct hydrogenation with nickel catalysts followed by desulfurisation led to 2,3-diarylquinolines or 2,3-diaryltetrahydroquinolines.     

Determination of enantiomeric excess and degree of hydrogenation in the enantioselective hydrogenation of ketopantolactone

Summary A new gas chromatographic method for the simultaneous determination of the degree of hydrogenation of ketopantolactone and the enantiomeric excess of pantolactone does not require any derivatisation.

Zusammenfassung Zur Bestimmung des Hydriergrads von Ketopantolacton und des Enantiomerenüberschusses von Pantolacton wird ein neues gaschromatographisches Verfahren eingesetzt, das keine Derivatisierung erfordert.

     

Reactivity of Vinca alkaloids in superacid: An access to vinflunine, a novel anticancer agent

This is a summary of a lecture presented at the 100th Anniversary, Moissan Symposium in Paris on Friday 10th November 2006.In HF/SbF₅, Vinca alkaloids react selectively at the D’ring of the molecule. In the presence of CHCl₃ (or CCl₄), vinorelbine yields 20′,20′-difluoro-3′,4′-dihydrovinorelbine (vinflunine), presently in phase III experimentation for treatment of bladder cancer and non small cell lung cancer.     

Single step synthesis of propionitrile over K/MgO from acetonitrile methylation with methanol

A series of potassium-doped MgO catalysts loaded with KOH up to 15 mol% was prepared and evaluated for a single step synthesis of propionitrile from acetonitrile methylation with methanol. As the amount of potassium dope increased, both the acetonitrile conversion and the selectivity toward propionitrile increased. Based on the activity data coupled with CO₂-TPD and NH₃-IR ones, it was concluded that potassium doping to MgO resulted in the enhancement of both basicity and bifunctionality — methylation and hydrogenation.     

On linear free energy correlations in liquid-phase catalytic hydrogenation of aromatic compounds

Application of linear free energy relationships (correlation between kinetics and thermodynamics) to catalytic hydrogenation of aromatic compounds in the liquidphase over supported metal catalysts is discussed.     

两相催化体系中α，β－不饱和醛选择加氢反应研究Ⅲ．表面活性剂、溶剂对选择加氢反应的影响

研究了水溶性钌－膦配合物催化肉桂醛选择加氢反应中，相转移剂和表面活性剂对反应转化率和选择性的影响，考察了表面活性剂ＣＴＡＢ（十六烷基三甲溴化铵）浓度以及影响两相界面性质的因素—水相和有机相体积比、有机溶剂的改变等的影响．结果表明，相转移剂可以促进反应进行，其中以季铵盐相转移剂最好；表面活性剂能够显著地加快反应，其中以阳离子表面活性剂的效果最佳，且分子中含有长链烷基者（如ＣＴＡＢ）效果更好，非离子和阴离子表面活性剂的效果较差；对于ＣＴＡＢ，其浓度的增加导致反应速度的明显加快，但ＣＴＡＢ浓度达到１．６５×１０－２ｍｏｌ／Ｌ之后，反应体系乳化严重，反应完成后，两相分离变得困难．而增加水相体积和加入适当的有机溶剂，有利于转化率和选择性的提高．
