Diastereoselective addition of dimethyl phosphite to 3,3′,4,4′-tetramethyl-1,1′-diphosphaferrocene-2-carboxaldehyde

Addition of dimethyl phosphite to racemic 3,3′,4,4′-tetramethyl-1,1′-diphosphaferrocene-2-carboxaldehyde gives almost exclusively one diastereomer of the corresponding α-hydroxyphosphonate (d.r. ?96:4). Its absolute configuration (S, R_p)-(R, S_p) was established by X-ray diffraction.     

Facile one-pot synthesis of BINOL- and H8-BINOL-based aryl phosphites and their use in palladium catalysed asymmetric allylation

Novel P-monodentate aryl phosphite ligands have been synthesised in one step from (R)-BINOL, (R)-H₈-BINOL and (R)-H₈-3,3′-dibromo-BINOL. With the new aryl phosphites, up to 86% ee was observed in the asymmetric Pd-catalysed amination of 1,3-diphenyl-2-propenyl acetate with sodium diformylamide. In the enantioselective alkylation of 1,3-diphenyl-2-propenyl acetate with dimethyl malonate, up to 97% enantioselectivity was achieved.     

New synthesis of benzo[b][1,6]naphthyridines and pyrido[4,3-b]benz[f]azepines from lactim ethers of 3,4-dihydrocarbostyril and 1H-2,3,4,5-tetrahydrobenz[b]azepin-2-one

Condensation of lactim ethers of 3,4-dihydrocarbostyril and 1H-2,3,4,5-tetrahydrobenz[b]azepin-2-one with malonodinitrile, cyanoacetamide, and ethyl cyanoacetate gave the corresponding 2-methylidene derivatives. Their reactions with dimethylformamide diethyl acetal followed by cyclization into benzo[b][1,6]naphthyridines and pyrido[4,3-b]benz[f ]azepines were studied. Construction of a pyrido[4,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">d</Emphasis>]pyrimidine system on the basis of <Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-cyanobenzamidine and diethyl acetone-1,3-dicarboxylate

Nickel acetate promoted reaction of diethyl acetone-1,3-dicarboxylate with N-cyanobenzamidine led to ethyl 4-amino-6-ethoxycarbonylmethyl-2-phenylpyrimidine-5-carboxylate, upon treatment of which with RNH₂, the corresponding 6-(carbamoylmethyl)pyrimidines were obtained. Cyclization of the latter upon treatment with MeONa afforded 6-R-4-amino-7-hydroxy-2-phenylpyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidin-5(6H)-ones. Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. The reaction between salicylic acid and dialkyl phosphite was traced by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and ^31P NMR. All reactants, unstable intermediates and products were detected. The mechanism was proposed based on ESI-MS results and ^31P NMR profiles.     

Quantitative evaluation of stress distribution in bulk polymer samples through the comparison of mechanical behaviors between giant single‐crystal and semicrystalline samples of poly(trans‐1,4‐diethyl muconate)

The Raman shift and crystallite modulus were measured under the application of tensile force for a giant single crystal and a series of uniaxially oriented semicrystalline samples of poly(trans‐1,4‐diethyl muconate) (polyEMU). The apparent Raman shift factor α^app or a vibrational frequency shift per 1 GPa tensile stress was higher for the semicrystalline samples with lower crystallinity or lower bulk modulus. The apparent crystallite modulus E or Young's modulus along the chain axis in the crystalline region was not constant but varied remarkably between the giant single crystal and semicrystalline samples. A systematic change in α^app and E among the polyEMU samples with different preparation history could be interpreted quantitatively on the basis of a mechanical series parallel model consisting of crystalline and amorphous phases. The origin of different E and α^app was speculated to be a stress concentration on the taut‐tie chain contained as a parallel crystalline component in the mechanical model. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Chemical Reactions and Kinetics of the Carbon Monoxide Coupling in the Presence of

The chemical reactions and kinetics of the catalytic coupling reaction of carbon monoxide to diethyl oxalate were studied in the presence of hydrogen over a supported palladium catalyst in the gaseous phase at the typical coupling reaction conditions. The experiments were performed in a continuous flow fixed-bed reactor. The results indicated that hydrogen only reacts with ethyl nitrite to form ethanol, and kinetic studies revealed that the rate-determining step is the surface reaction of adsorbed hydrogen and the ethoxy radical (EtO-). A kinetic model is proposed and a comparison of the observed and calculated conversions showed that the rate expressions are of rather high confidence.
