First lipase catalysed resolution of epoxy enol esters

We report the first enzyme-catalysed kinetic resolution of epoxy enol esters. The lipase-promoted hydrolysis of these compounds provided α-hydroxyketones or α-hydroxyaldehydes (arising from the spontaneous rearrangement of the epoxy enols) and the residual esters with moderate to good enantioselectivity (E up to 100).     

One-pot tethering of organic molecules through non-symmetric malonate derivatives

A new method for one-pot chemoselective heterobifunctional cross-linking of organic molecules is described. The method is based on tert-butyldiphenylsilyl malonate and involves two sequential carbodiimide couplings with two different molecules possessing a hydroxy or an amino functionality with one intermediate one-pot fluoride deprotection.     

Esterification of C1−C8 carboxylic acids to n-butyl esters in aqueous solutions for their gas chromatographic analysis

Summary The esterification of C₁–C₈ fatty acid in aqueous solutions and in the presence of sulfuric or hydrochloric acid and with n-butanol is described. It has been established that the esterification can be used for the quantitative determination of these fatty acids in the concentration ratio range of [H₂O]/[n-BuOH]=0.01–5.3. In the concentration ratio range of 0.01–0.8 the water present does not interfere. In the concentration range of above 0.8 anhydrous sodium sulfate is used for binding the water, in the amount of [Na₂SO₄.anh.]/[H₂O]0.2.     

Synthesis of novel silylated 1,2,4-triazin-5-ones

The reaction of various α-silyl-α-keto esters with thiosemicarbazide at 50 °C in ethyl acetate was found to give α-silyl-substituted thiosemicarbazone-acetic acid esters in good yield. These may then be converted to their corresponding silyl-substituted 1,2,4-triazin-5-ones by cyclization under basic conditions.     

Thermal stability and degradation of starch derivatives

Thermal behaviour of different starch derivatives, i.e. starch esters and ethers having degree of substitution (DS) in the range of 0.02–0.18 were studied. Potato, maize and wheat starches were used. Measurements were carried out by coupled thermal analysis/ mass spectrometry method (STA-MS) in air atmosphere. The major DTG peak during the investigation for starch derivatives is observed below 300°C. The mass loss up to a temperature of 300°C is about 50%. The most abundant ions found areH₂O⁺ and CO₂ ⁺. For the studied starch derivatives with a low degree of substitution (DS<0.18) no correlation was found between thermal stability and the level of substitution regardless of the nature of substitution.     

One-pot synthesis of ortho-hydroxycinnamate esters

Phenols are converted to salicylaldehydes with paraformaldehyde, MgCl₂-Et₃N in THF, and subsequent treatment with methyl (triphenylphosphoranylidene)acetate gave the corresponding methyl ortho-hydroxycinnamate derivatives. The sequence is conveniently carried out as a one-pot procedure.     

Copper(I) iodide-catalysed arylation of acetoacetate to yield 2-arylacetic acid esters

The C-C coupling reaction between ethyl acetoacetate and aryl halides in the presence of CuI is described. The effects of solvent, ligands such as vicinal diamines and amino acids, base and temperature are reported. The arylated acetoacetate ester is deacylated under the reaction conditions resulting in the generation of 2-arylacetic acid esters, constituting a mild alternative to direct arylation of carboxylate esters.     

Oxidative free radical reactions of enamino esters

Oxidative free radical reactions of enamino esters are described. Electrophilic carbon-centered radicals produced by the cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) oxidation of β-dicarbonyl compounds undergo efficient addition to the C-C double bond of enamino esters. This CAN mediated free radical reaction between enamino esters and β-dicarbonyl compounds provides a novel method for the synthesis of highly substituted pyrroles. The direct CAN oxidation of β-enaminocinnamates gave the dimerization products effectively.     

Synthese und Charakterisierung funktionalisierter β‐Hydroxydithiozimtsäuren und deren Ester. Komplexchemisches Verhalten gegenüber Nickel(II), Palladium(II) und Platin(II)

Synthesis and Analytical Characterization of Functionalized β‐Hydroxydithiocinnamic Acids and their Esters. Complex Chemistry towards Nickel(II), Palladium(II), and Platin(II) Starting from silyl‐protected 4‐hydroxy acetophenone ( 1 ) the 1,1‐ethenedihiolato complexes 3 – 5 were synthesised using carbon disulfide and potassium‐tert‐butylate as a base. After being deprotected, the resulting 4‐hydroxy‐substituted complexes 6 – 8 were esterified with DL‐α‐lipoic acid to obtain the compounds 9 – 11 . The resulting complexes were characterized using NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and IR spectroscopy. 3‐substituted β‐hydroxydithiocinnamic acid methyl ester ( 12 ) was obtained via an analogous path of reaction using silyl‐protected 3‐hydroxy acetophenone ( 2 ), carbon disulfide and methyl iodide. After removing of the silyl group the resulting hydroxy group was esterified with DL‐α‐lipoic acid. Using the dithioacid ester 14 as a ligand the Ni^II ( 15 ), Pd^II ( 16 ) and Pt^II ( 17 ) [O,S] complexes were obtained.     

A novel arylation of arylacetic acid esters using tertiary arylamines and TiCl4

The reactions of arylacetic acid esters with tertiary arylamines in the presence of TiCl₄ give α-arylated products in 65-90% yields, as well as 10-20% yields of the corresponding benzidines.
