Using a numerical technique, known as the lattice-Boltzmann method, we study immiscible three-phase flow at the pore scale. An important phenomenon at this scale is the spreading of oil onto the gas–water interface. In this paper, we recognize from first principles how injected gas remobilizes initially trapped oil blobs. The two main flow mechanisms which account for this type of remobilization are simulated. These are the double-drainage mechanism and (countercurrent) film flow of oil. The simulations agree qualitatively with experimental findings in the literature. We also simulate steady-state three-phase flow (fixed and equal saturations) in a small segment of a waterwet porous medium under both spreading and nonspreading conditions. The difference between the two conditions with respect to the coefficients in the generalized law of Darcy (which also includes viscous coupling) is investigated. 相似文献
Imperatorin, a naturally derived furanocoumarin, exerts promising neuropharmacological properties. Therefore, it might be applicable in the treatment of brain diseases such as depression. In the present project, we aimed to investigate the sex-dependent effects of imperatorin (1, 5, and 10 mg/kg) on behavior and neurochemistry associated with antidepressant effects. The depressive-like behaviors of male and female Swiss mice were investigated in a forced swim test (FST). Subsequently, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was used to evaluate the level of serotonin, its metabolite, 5-HIAA, and noradrenaline, in mouse brains. The study revealed that only males responded to imperatorin (1 and 5 mg/kg) treatment and caused an antidepressant effect, such as with respect to depressive-like behaviors, lowering immobility time and increasing immobility latency. The HPLC analysis demonstrated that serotonin levels in the prefrontal cortex of females decreased with the middle dose of imperatorin (5 mg/kg), while in the male prefrontal cortex, the lower dose (1 mg/kg) boosted serotonin levels. There were no evident changes observed with respect to noradrenaline and serotonin metabolite levels in the male hippocampus. To conclude, we propose that imperatorin has antidepressant potential, seemingly only in males, influencing brain serotonin level, but the direct mechanism of action requires further investigation. 相似文献
In an attempt to better delineate the abnormalities associated with focal cortical dysgenesis, we performed curvilinear reformatting of the cortex from 3D magnetic resonance (MR) images. Illustrative patients with partial seizures and conventional orthogonal MRI evaluation show that small regions of cortical thickening suggestive of focal dysplastic lesions may not be recognized. In three such patients the curvilinear reformatting demonstrated two additional focal abnormalities of the cortical gyri and better defined the two focal lesions found on conventional orthogonal MR images. This method promises to a be useful tool in the evaluation of epileptic patients with proven or suspected subtle structural cortical abnormalities, particularly focal neuronal migration disorders where cortical thickening, abnormal gyral pattern, and poor delineation of the gray-white matter transition are the main findings. 相似文献
Summary: A novel experimental approach based on the freezing‐point depression of a solvent in a swollen gel has been developed to characterize the structure of nanocomposites. A higher depression in the freezing point has been related with an exfoliated nanocomposite. This increased depression not only depends on the formation of a tighter network but also on the decrease of the size of the solvent cages where the nucleation takes place.
