The characteristics of a nitrogen arc using a graphite cathode and a melting anode in a pilot-scale plasma furnace are investigated. The voltage is examined as a function of current and apparent plasma length. The voltage increases non-linearly with the increase of apparent plasma length, with the current fixed. The experimental data so obtained are compared with the predictions of the Bowman model for the electric arc, and with numerical simulations as well. The level of agreement between the experimental data at the melting anode and the numerical predictions confirms the suitability of the proposed the Bowman model. These characteristics are relevant to the engineering design and evaluation of a DC plasma furnace and reactor for the treatment of hazardous fly ash waste. 相似文献

Tungsten is regarded as an important candidate of plasma facing material in international thermonuclear experimental reactor (ITER), so the determination and modeling of spectra of tungsten plasma, especially the spectra at high temperature were intensely focused on recently. In this work, using the atomic structure code of Cowan, a collisional radiative model (CRM) based on the spin-orbit-split-arrays is developed. Based on this model, the charge state distribution of tungsten ions is determined and the soft X-ray spectra from high charged ions of tungsten at different temperatures are calculated. The results show that both the average ionization charge and line positions are well agreed with others calculations and measurements with discrepancies of less than 0.63% and 1.26%, respectively. The spectra at higher temperatures are also reported and the relationship between ion abundance and temperature is predicted in this work. 相似文献

Three different low-temperature plasma-based methods were used to improve the surface hydrophilicity of polyethy- lene (PE) films, and all the modification processes were carried out by employing an atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) system. (a) PE films were directly modified by APPJ using a gas mixture of He and 02. (b) Acrylic acid (AA) was introduced into the system and a polymer acrylic acid (PAA) coating was deposited onto the PE films. (c) AA was grafted onto the PE surface activated by plasma pre-treatment. It was found that the hydrophilicity of the PE films was significantly improved for all the three methods. However, the samples modified by Process (a) showed hydrophobicity recovery after a storage time of 20 days while no significant change was found in samples modified by Process (b) and Process (c). The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results indicated that the most intensive C=O peak was detected on the PE surface modified by Process (c). According to the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, the ratios of oxygen-containing polar groups for samples modified by Process (b) and Process (c) were higher than that modified by Process (a). 相似文献

The microwave (MW) transmission method is employed to measure both the plasma density and the plasma decay time in the hollow cathode discharge (HCD) in argon at low pressure. The plasma density in DC-driven or pulsed HCD is on the order of 1012 cm-3, which can block the X-band MW effectively. In the case of pulsed HCD, the MW transmittance shows the same waveform as the pulsed current during the rising edge if the driving frequency is low, but with a longer delay during the falling edge. The MW transmittance reaches a constant low level when the driving frequency is high enough. The plasma decay time in the HCD system is measured to be about 100 μs around a pressure of 120 Pa. The ambipolar diffusion is considered to be the major mechanism in the decay process. 相似文献

The effects of an electric field on the collision rates, energy exchanges and transport properties of electrons in premixed flames are investigated via solutions to the Boltzmann kinetic equation. The case of high electric field strength, which results in high-energy, non-thermal electrons, is analysed in detail at sub-breakdown conditions. The rates of inelastic collisions and the energy exchange between electrons and neutrals in the reaction zone of the flame are characterised quantitatively. The analysis includes attachment, ionisation, impact dissociation, and vibrational and electronic excitation processes. Our results suggest that Townsend breakdown occurs for E/N = 140 Td. Vibrational excitation is the dominant process up to breakdown, despite important rates of electronic excitation of CO, CO2 and N2 as well as impact dissociation of O2 being apparent from 50 Td onwards. Ohmic heating in the reaction zone is found to be negligible (less than 2% of peak heat release rate) up to breakdown field strengths for realistic electron densities equal to 1010 cm?3. The observed trends are largely independent of equivalence ratio. In the non-thermal regime, electron transport coefficients are insensitive to mixture composition and approximately constant across the flame, but are highly dependent on the electric field strength. In the thermal limit, kinetic parameters and transport coefficients vary substantially across the flame due to the spatially inhomogeneous concentration of water vapour. A practical approach for identifying the plasma regime (thermal versus non-thermal) in studies of electric field effects on flames is proposed. 相似文献

As more efficient and reliable torches for thermal plasma generation have become available in recent years, the use of thermal plasma as an energy source for pyrolysis/gasification has attracted much interest, and special attention has been paid to waste treatment for resource and energy recovery. Plasma pyrolysis/gasification systems have unique features such as the extremely high reaction temperature and ultra-fast reaction velocity compared to traditional pyrolysis/gasification systems. A theory for dressed quantum ion acoustic waves (QIAWs), which includes higher-order corrections when QIAWs are investigated by the reductive perturbation method, is presented for unmagnetized plasmas containing positive and negative ions and weakly relativistic electron beams. The properties of the QIAWs are investigated using a quantum hydrodynamic model, from which a Korteweg–de Vries equation is derived using the reductive perturbation method. Much of the in vivo research that has been conducted on the health effects of pollutants such as SO2 and NO2 has been concerned with their effects upon lung defense systems, with particular reference to their effect on functional properties of the alveolar macrophage (AM). The lungs are constantly exposed to the external environment with its variable content of irritants and infectious agents. Agents deposited in or below the region of the respiratory bronchioles are phagocytized by the AM. The specific capacity of the AM to perform its task is subject to many factors. Gaseous air pollutants have been shown to affect the functional state of the cells(1). Phagocytosis is an energy dependent process and plasma membrane ATPase has been suggested to act as a mechanoenzyme making phagocytosis possible through the conversion of chemical energy in the form of ATPase to the mechanical energky required for attachement and ingestion (2). Since the bulk of the cellular ATPase activity is located in the plasma membrane of the AM(3) the enzyme is easily accessible to inhaled pollutants. The concentrations of 14 elements in Lycium barbarum L. leaves collected from the Qaidam basin (China) were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry after microwave assisted digestion. This work presents two goals: (1) to determine 14 elements in L. barbarum leaves; (2) to examine the relationship between elements using correlation analysis, principal component analysis, and cluster analysis. The accuracy and precision were verified against a GBW07605 Tea Leaves certified reference material. The results demonstrated that the method was reliable, reproducible, and suitable for determination of the concentrations of trace elements in L. barbarum leaves. Correlation analysis showed that aluminum–copper, arsenic–zinc, manganese–selenium, and chromium–iron have medium correlation coefficients. Principal component loading for L. barbarum leaves extracted seven components explained about 85% of the total variance. Cluster analysis depicts four clusters: (1) arsenic and titanium; (2) calcium, magnesium, manganese, selenium, and zinc; (3) cobalt, iron, and molybdenum; (4) aluminum, copper, and chromium. 相似文献
