It is shown that pipe-flow turbulence consists of transients. The fractal dimensions of the dynamical process are thus all zero. Nevertheless, this is compatible with Grassberger-Procaccia analyses suggesting the existence of a high-dimensional strange attractor. Unusual current‐voltage characteristics of single crystalline and bicrystalline La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 films
The current‐voltage characteristics of single crystalline and bicrystalline La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 films were measured and analyzed. Several epitaxial films, as well as 45° [001]‐tilt grain boundaries, display current‐voltage characteristics which are asymmetric with respect to polarity reversal of the bias current. One epitaxial film has a polarity dependent resistance of ~340kΩ and of ~670kΩ in forward and in reverse direction, respectively. 相似文献

We investigate the dynamics of the Λ system driven by two resonant laser fields in presence of dissipation for coupling strengths where the rotating‐wave approximation starts to break down. This regime is characterised by Rabi frequencies being approximately equal or smaller than the field frequencies. A systematic procedure to obtain an expansion for the solution of the Bloch evolution equations of the system is presented. The lowest contribution results to be the well‐known rotating‐wave approximation. The method is based on a semi‐classical treatment of the problem, and its predictions are interpreted fully quantum mechanically. The theory is illustrated by a detailed study of the disappearance of coherent population trapping as the intensities of the fields increase. 相似文献

A suitable derivative of Einstein's equations in the framework of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity (TEGR) yields a continuity equation for the gravitational energy‐momentum. In particular, the time derivative of the total gravitational energy is given by the sum of the total fluxes of gravitational and matter fields energy. We carry out a detailed analysis of the continuity equation in the context of Bondi and Vaidya's metrics. In the former space‐time the flux of gravitational energy is given by the well known expression in terms of the square of the news function. It is known that the energy definition in the realm of the TEGR yields the ADM (Arnowitt‐Deser‐Misner) energy for appropriate boundary conditions. Here we show that the same energy definition also describes the Bondi energy. The analysis of the continuity equation in Vaidya's space‐time shows that the variation of the total gravitational energy is determined by the energy flux of matter only. 相似文献

We review the worldsheet analysis for intersecting branes with focus on small and large angles. For small angles, we review the Yang‐Mills fluctuation analysis in [1] and find an additional family of massless modes. They are the components of a Goldstone scalar corresponding to the spontaneously broken U(2)‐gauge symmetry. For branes at large angles, we derive an effective tachyon field theory from BSFT results. We show how the gauge symmetry of this system implies a mass spectrum which is consistent with the worldsheet analysis. 相似文献

The electromagnetic (EM) energy flow near single spheres is investigated by applying Mie theory. From the patterns of the energy flow, the absorption and the scattering of light can be understood in the microscopic point of view. In the absorption profiles of metallic particles, most absorbed energy is consumed on the surface of the particles, which indicates that the resonance of surface plasmon is different from that of the bulk plasmon. Two mechanisms to enhanced local EM field are also distinguished. One is the surface plasmon resonance, and another one is the intensified energy flow. 相似文献

Micro-hotplates operated at elevated temperature form the basic element in several sensor devices, such as integrated calorimetric or Taguchi-type gas sensors and flow-rate sensors. In all of these applications thermal properties of the sensing elements play a determining role in functional operation, therefore, their accurate characterisation is essential. The micro-hotplates investigated were developed by one side porous silicon micro-machining technology, forming Pt micro-filaments embedded in non-stoichiometric silicon nitride, and suspended across a cavity. This work is dealing with the accurate temperature detection in the micro-scale by different measurement methods for the deduction of steady state and transient thermal properties from the results.
